All a bit Michael Duberry this. Utterly reviled unanimously at the club he was at. Came to us and was...well just ok really. Not as terrible as he might have been. Helped that we defended deep and had a back eight so he wasn't exposed. Get used to that lads... Bit harsh on Doobs Toxic, he was better than that - came to us as a bit of a name and (50 pence head notwithstanding) did a damn sight better than just ok....

He was a major upgrade on Paul Williams, so that was good. He wasn't in the same postcode as Taggart or Clint for me Stigger. I was astonished we got £800k out of Reading for him.

I agree with you there, I always think of the signing of Taggart as where the journey to the Prem began, they don't seem to make players like that anymore, or they're not allowed to exist anymore at least...

I always see Oulare's arse-goal as the first paving on the road. Taggart was brilliant though, one of my all-time favourite Stoke players.

From reading what Everton fans have to say, basically his legs have gone...he's done. I really hope Rowett has got this right as he will be playing plenty of games this season. Yup. He was consistently bad last season. He'll have my support but he's this years Darren Fletcher, unfortunately.

Correct. He was brilliant at Swansea and that's why he got his move to Everton. Been toss since then, but yeah that's why hes in the championship now Great he's toss so we have signed him, fantastic news. I didn't sign him?

I'm not buying it that Williams is anything like as clapped out as many people are suggesting.
He has played 60 times in the last 2 seasons for an Everton team than finished 7th and 8th in the Premier League.
He may no longer be someone they see as taking them forward to European finishes or an adequate replacement for John Stones who they sold for 50 million quid but I am 100% certain he can do an excellent job for Stoke City in the Championship.
He will put some serious heat on the jacksy's of Ryan and BMI, in fact I reckon it won't be long before he is an automatic starter even when all 3 are fit.

Would've thought that signing Fletcher last season had taught us a lesson but hey-ho.

I agree with this, on reflection I think it’s a shrewd signing.....

I asked my Everton season ticket holding mate about Williams. He goes home and away and is pretty level headed, this was his reply:
I honestly think you will hate him inside 3 months. He may turn out to be good for you, as Gough was for us, but for us he was slow, gave away stupid penalties, and was often out of position. I suspect he will make mistakes, which he won't learn from. Better to play a younger player who will make mistakes and will learn in my opinion.

We've obviously got a bit desperate here, other things haven't dropped for us and we've forced ourselves into a bit of a corner with time running out and a lack of cover. He might do better than some of us expect, but I just have a underlying worry that there will be some sort of extension in the contract if we were to get promoted.

I remember us signing a washed up centre half some years back, who’s legs had gone. Gerry taggart his name was for those that can’t remember....... Hear, hear Sir! Williams has been brought in for dressing room grit and leadership - not as a week-in-week-out starter. We all bemoaned the lack of leaders in the dressing room last year and now we have one and still we moan! Exactly mate and a player that will have plenty to prove and is a leader

Does he know we are in the Championship now with average media rights money of £6m per year and that without Williams the 3rd choice centre back was either Souttar or GCam doing it as his hobby job?

Remember he's the man who tried to murder Van Persie, what's the club coming too. Talk about hypocritical! All the furore around us signing McClean - and people don't mind we've signed a guy who tried to kill somebody. Our fans are a disgrace.
