There might be another thread this should go in but I haven't seen much made of this... the save that Pickford made that led to the corner for the goal (and what a shame it did) was absolutely fkin sensational. Genuinely one of the best saves I've ever seen. If we'd held on for the 1-0 it would be the only thing people were talking about. www.facebook.com/matt.haydock.3/videos/1759297237494874/Have to say I'd been slating Pickford but he seemed to come of age a bit on Tuesday. Go on lad.

Go on lad. Watching the game I remember thinking that shortly before him making that save he'd had very little to do. I also thought the penalty save was quite remarkable as he seemed to adjust his position mid-air - almost as if it was like in the Matrix where everything stops but you don't. He's clearly Southgate's first choice so from an England perspective we need to get behind him - and in that context those two instances should do wonders for his confidence after what was a pretty poor performance against Belgium.

Yes but Butland (being 4" taller) would've caught it with one hand..... Possibly
In all seriousness, it was almost miraculous, such a shame it was overshadowed by them equalising less than a minute later.

Was a good save but a presenter on Sky Sports News said he'd seen a different angle of it & hinted it was going wide anyway but clearly Pickford wasn't to know this. Wasnt really much made of it due to timing and resulting corner & Columbia equaliser. Still wary about his point blank save clearances back into the danger areas but hopefully his good run can continue.

Go on lad. I’d like to see it from another angle. From the one in the link I think it may just have been going wide. No criticism of Pickford. He couldn’t take the chance and it was still a heck of a save. Interesting that he looked at first as though he was going for it with his right hand then seemed to think better of it and changed to his left.

The only problem is - the shot was going wide!!
If he hadn't touched it we would have had a goal kick and avoided the corner from which we conceded their equaliser.
Just saying!!!

After every England game on twitter, there have been numerous Stoke fans saying - "Jack saves it".
Needless to say after the Columbia match I didn't see any of those tweets, Jack doesn't save that one - or any of the pens IMO.

In hindsight yes if Pickford had let it go no corner and then no penalties. However I think having penalties and winning through penalties is great because that will give them even further confidence should we face another penalty shot out.

Only a save if it was on target, going wide for me, said it in real time.

Not a fan of JP.
Admittedly not seen a huge amount of him in the league but for e.g., i thought his performance for Everton against us @ home was bordering on comical at times.
His "I'm as thick as two short" media performances have been less than edifying also.
And for me, he did look a tad shakey in the group on occasion.
But credit where it is due, that 'save' (was it going out? The coveage of it was shocking by itv) was spectacular.
And really top drawer penalty saves too.
If Jack had any complaints prior, he'll have to keep them to himself now (which, by all accounts, he has done anyway btw).
Plus, the further we go now, it is also going to be a much more difficult task to dislodge him.
If we win it (jinx), he may as well apply for 'Who Do You Think You Are?' and find some foreign ancestors pronto.

I can’t put my finger on it but I’m not a fan of his. Maybe because I want jack as no1 but I don’t think it’s that. He did come across as a bit of a ‘doughnut’ in the post match interview😬😂

Not sure he meant it as it came across but he sounded so cocky & disrespectful about Butland & Pope it made me dislike him even more. I remember watching it and thought to myself, had Jack just been asked that question the answer would of been so different.

Fair play to him, he's done well so far. His distribution is way better than jacks so I can see why he is playing. He looks more mobile when facing penalties and so far its worked.
But, he doesn't look commanding and doesn't command his area on set pieces. I think he's got a big mistake in him, just hope it doesn't cost us.

From the two angles I’ve seen I felt it was going in but the conclusive angle hasn’t been made available/doesn’t exist.
Regardless of that, it was a truly world-class display of reactions, athleticism and, as has already been mentioned, reactions once more to recognise at the last moment he needed to use his left hand rather than his right.
If it had gone in it would’ve been goal of the World Cup.

The shot was going wide. He didn't need to save it. He gave away an unnecessary corner that led to a goal which he probably should have saved anyway.
The penalty save was nothing special either. Having gone the right way, it would have been pretty miraculous had he not saved it. It was very similar to Jack's penalty save v Hazard in the cup match a few seasons back.
