The presence of the clause is not the issue its the value of it. Get a pair of glasses. The point of a player wanting a relegation release clause that he has an easy out if we go down. Should he have a relegation clause of 30million? What’s the point of even having one. Jonny Evans is leaving for 3.5million this summer. Demba Ba left West Ham on a free just 6months after signing for something like 7million. Good players don’t always want to play in the Championship in case you didn’t know. Oh I get it. Some relegation clauses don't even have a minimum fee attached, just an assurance that the player will be allowed to leave. Zaha is rumoured to have an absurdly high relegation release clause in the tens of millions. We had our pants pulled down. Again.

Eh? Why should we assume Shaq has a release clause like Allen did? (ie, only valid for top 6 clubs) No journalist has reported it so there is no reason to think it is like that. My point exactly. We shouldn't assume anything as we have absolutely zero knowledge of what may or may not be in any individual players contract. That is why I intimated it was unlikely rather than use the words 'absolutely' and 'No.

Yeah the one who jumped ship to Man Utd and said in May that he would 'relish a move to a bigger club' if the opportunity came along again in the future. Yeah that Zaha. I’m sure he would relish a move, but he’s happy to allow the club to make healthy amount of money on him and not price him out of a move because of the connection and trust between the two considering he’s played for them since he was 12. Something Stoke and Xherdan Shaqiri didn’t have when he was signing for us. Hence the need for that relegation clause.

To get less than £20M for Shaq is really bad business, but a release clause is a release clause. I really hope it's more than the quoted £12M though! Why, when the oracles of Bayern and Sheik are saying nobody else wanted him, if it was too high we could have been stuck with him, it's all a bit catch 22. I could live with us being stuck with him.

Why, the release clause will be the lowest amount we would achieve for him. If several clubs are interested they will outbid each other. For sure, Shiq is in a very strong position. They will outbid each other in how much they will offer the player. Stoke will not get a penny more than the release clause. Yes, that's my understanding too. Not sure where the confusion is coming from.

There's more chance of Shaqiri covering his fullback then Sheikh getting a grip mate. Blimey, I thought you were dead. How come?

Look if we hadn’t got the fucking RELEGATION release clause inserted he wouldn’t of signed in the first place as he must of insisted it was put in place If we’d survived his price would be double/triple what is being quoted WTF is it people are struggling to grasp One trick ponies.

A few years ago, we had Arnautovic, Shaqiri, Nzonzi, Bojan, Butland... all under one roof playing fantastic football. Where did it all go wrong? Lack of ambition by the club? Or falling out with the manager?

Martin O’Neil just totally rinsed Neville about Shaq on ITV, superb put down Missed it, what did he say? Started by saying there’ll be a few pundits who don’t like Shaq and his apparent lack of tracking back. He then went on to say covering his fullback is not his job, he’s in the team to make and score goals - when he was at Forest John Robertson never covered for his full back because he’s in the side to create not tackle. He then said Shaq is a class player and he thinks Gary (Neville) has changed his mind as he saw him coming out of a darkened room last night whistling the Swiss National Anthem. Sweet!

Sweet! that's all well said and done if your in a top 6 club with world class defenders covering you . at a club like stoke city its a luxury we could not afford to have and cost us time and time again. Garry Neville was referring about shaqs performances for stoke city and how he has tried to cut all association with the club since relegation .we are stoke city not Barcelona we cant afford such luxury and self egotistical performances

There's no escaping it, Shaq is a fucking legend, a star of the world game. Never mind years, Stoke fans will talk about his time at the club for decades. Anyone who doubts that is in a chronic state of denial!

I’ll remember most of our Macari promotion team for far longer, never mind Hudson, Greenhoff, Thomas, Chambo, Kav, Thorne, Sheron, Fuller, Shawcross and probably 20 or more other players. Give it it a couple of years and I really can’t see myself talking about him ever again. Now Arnie.....

Shaq would be a much better player if he kept his sulking until after the final whistle, so he is not quite a 100% legend

The guy is a decent midtable prem player, nothing more nothing less. In Stoke City terms, not fit to lace Ric's boots.
