FFS . Let this drop. This is developing into a issue that could split us apart. The last thing we need at the start of our season in the Championship. McLean is a Stoke player and hopefully an intergal part of our team and club. Support the team and all of its players. I don’t agree with Peter Coates politics but we hav not seen 11 pages of argument and misinformed opinions on it. Probably because Peter Coates hasn't turned his back on the National Anthem of the country he is earning a fucking mint in? H Peter Coates wants Corbyn out!! Neither was there much prospect of a successful new party emerging, Coates said. “I have never seen a more bleak or depressing picture than what confronts us now. There’s no way I can support any left of centre, progressive party on the basis of what I am seeing now,” he said. “I’m waiting and hoping Jeremy Corbyn might stand down and then we can see a way forward.”

Questions.
I'm neutral in this question - an outside perspective from someone seeking knowledge. I'm a Swede and in school here (Sweden) we obviously didn't study the northern Ireland conflict that much, it just got mentioned in class. The main focus wasn't there so to say - we focused in History class on WW1, WW2, the Russian invasion of Finland, American Civil War, Karl XII etc. Therefore, I've tried to find more info on this recently.
So I have some questions:
1) Once upon a time, Ireland must have been just Ireland - WHEN was that? 2) As I understand it, you have to differ what's called The Original IRA, from what is the New IRA. What - if any of these two - does J McClean "support"? 3) I read there was a signed piece agreement in 1998(?) that "ended the Northern Ireland conflict", but it seems it's still on. Why? What was so bad about the agreement?
🤔

No body won this one and generations have been brainwashed into polar different beliefs. The island of Ireland was all one, and much of the trouble started, as usual, with religious bigatory and a Guy well known over there on the continent William Of Orange. If you are interested in history it is well worth studying.

Celtic v Rangers isn’t just football rivalry.

What was so bad about the agreement? 🤔 1. Ireland was partitioned in 1921 following the War of Independence which was fought by the IRA against the British. The war was settled by a treaty which meant that 6 counties in the north o& Ireland that were predominantly Protestant formed Northern Ireland. The partitioning of the country was deeply unpopular and splitt the republican movement which led to the Irish Civil War between those who were pro and anti treaty. After the civil war the treaty remained in place. 2. The “original” IRA fought the war of independence and defeated the British. Without them there would be no Republic of Ireland. They are considered national heroes by all Irish people (apart from the loyalists in a Northern Ireland) in Ireland and pretty much all of the so-called “IRA songs” (including The Broad Black Brimmer) are about them. Following the civil war they became increasingly marginalised and eventually called a ceasefire in 1969 The Provisional IRA didn’t agree with the ceasefire and split from the official IRA in 1969. They started their own armed campaign in Northern Ireland and on the British Mainland. They announced a ceasefire in 1997 and decommissioned their weapons as part of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. A small number of splinter groups formed out of those who did not agree with the ceasefire eg the “Real IRA” and the “Continuity IRA”. They are still active in Northern Ireland but don’t have very much support. 3. The 1998 Good Friday Agreement Was a huge breakthrough. As part of the agreement: - The Provisional IRA declared a ceasefire & decommisioned their weapons - The British Army presence was scaled back and the UDR were disbanded. - The RUC were disbanded and replaced with the Police Service of Northern Ireland - The Northern Ireland Assembly was set up. As I mentioned above, a small number of republicans disagreed with the agreement and set up splinter groups but they aren’t very well supported or financed. There is, however, still deep division between the nationalist and loyalist communities in Northern Ireland and this leads to flash points from time to time - especially around the 12th of July when the Orange Order celebrate the victory of King William of Orange over King James at the Battle of the Boyne. Overall though, Northern Ireland is far more peaceful than it was.
