Thanks. Why does a player's value come tumbling down to such a huge degree in the last year of the contract? I get that they can leave for free at the end of the contract, but Real Madrid weren't going to wait a year in the hopes that he didn't sign another contract at Chelsea. I don't understand why Chelsea didn't hold out for more. It would probably cost Chelsea another 30 mill to renegotiate his contract so in reality they have not lost out that much in relation to their new signing and the clubs income. It’s one of those abacus jobs where it problem balances out or is not a major loss somewhere when you balance the books Maybe for a couple of years but footballers tend to renegotiate and sign new contracts every 2 years anyway. If Chelsea are successful this season and he has a good year you can pretty much guarantee his agent will be demanding a new contract and a massive wage increase. Probably to whatever Courtois was on. I can't get my head around these goalkeeper transfer figures tbh. Just ridiculous.

I agree it’s when the uninitiated like our selves try and work it out it makes your ears bleed 🤷♂️

I can't get my head around these goalkeeper transfer figures tbh. Just ridiculous. I take the opposite view. Goalkeepers have long been undervalued in the transfer market. A great goalkeeper is as important as a great striker. Transfer fees are ridiculous in general, but I don't think the recent goalkeeper fees are ridiculous when you look at fees for field players.
