Let's get one thing straight. Carto is in charge of recruitment. Period. The scouts, contracts, databases. He oversees it all. Im embarrassed for the club for this shameless PR. Do they think we're stupid? Why will nobody make serious change? This sort of tactic will do nothing but harm the relationship with fans. The press office need to put the brakes on garbage like this. Not only that it does nothing but show Cartwright is completely at fault! The article says: "No club bids for a player before first discovering if he wants to come and that is the kind of groundwork laid by people in the role of recruitment director. His role is also to constantly update his database on players so that a certain amount of background information, albeit largely statistical, is to hand if a player appears on Stoke’s radar." So Jese wanted to be here? Did his statistical database show how few games berahino and wimmer had played? He is in charge of recruitment overall, he manages a 'database', he liases with players, he brings in the scouts who report to him. If the scouts, the process or the database arent up to it. It's on cartwright. He presents options to the manager and if its clear mark hughes wasnt pulling his weight why wasnt he sacked? It has failed The scouts he has employed are not good enough. He has not done enough homework and should be informing the board of good or bad deals based on cost/ability/age etc. He has failed. He should be sacked ASAP Compare that to this: www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/scouting-system-that-reveals-david-moyes-mind-8756011.htmlIt's why moyes needs to come and get these idiots in order. They stood by whilst admittedly let Hughes take us as a laughing stock and are now doing their damndest to protect one of their own. Peter/John youve clearly lost control of the ship. 'Let's get one thing straight. Carto is in charge of recruitment. Period' Not convinced it's that simple. The manager, the scouting head (Cruikshank?) & most definitely Scholes all have a major input into recruitment Perhaps it's a case of too many cooks?

What are we paying him for if he has some meaningless role as is trying to be depicted here?
He doesn't scout, he hasn't had much say in many of our transfers recently (quote "one one hand"). All he does is pick up the phone and speak to a few agents to see if they're interested in doing a deal and updates a database now and then with stats downloaded from somewhere like Wyscout? Have I read that right?
Pick any joey off the street to update a database, save a few quid, and get the CEO to do the other job (Isn't that the CEO's job anyway?)
IMO all this article is for, is justifying him keeping his position, Scholes keeping his and the little nugget about the manager watching his own players is a way of sticking the knife further into Hughes and justifying keeping Lambert.
Overhaul my arse.

What an utterly bizarre article, I’m struggling to identify it as journalism, it’s just a memo from the club aiming to cool to pressure on Cartwright that’s somehow been molded in to something resembling an article. Mr Spinks, hang your head sir.

The hierarchy haven't learned anything.
They believe that nothing is wrong.
They're hoping that everything will blow over, that everyone will forget how inextricably awful Paul Lambert is as a manager, and what an utter shitshow Scholes and Cartwank have presided over.
PR puff pieces like this just illustrate the utter contempt the club holds its supporters in.
Next season, I fear things will get really nasty and that nice Waddington Suite might get an unscheduled renovation.

I don’t understand all the vitriol personally. Ultimately the buck stops with the manager. Was Cartwright supposed to tell Hughes he couldn’t have Berahinio or Wimmer even though the financials worked and they were Hughes’s top targets? Imagine if they then went on to br top signings for a rival, he would have been slated on here. In that case he’s on a hiding to nothing either way. I don’t know the ins and outs of the different job roles though seemingly plenty on here do know the finer details. If the club back him and think he’s doing a good job then I’m prepared to accept that as they are likely to be more knowledgeable on the subject than me. Do you also accept that these are the same fuckwits that have got us relegated and left us with no direction whatsoever?

That is a staggeringly awful article.
You don't need a door opener when you're dealing with salesmen FFS, which is effectively what agents are.
Recruitment has been a total failure for two seasons, in both strategic and tactical terms. Everyone invoved must be held accountable - at the very least major lessons need to be learned.
If heads are not going to roll, then every single mistake needs to be recognised and owned.
This sort of shit adds insult to injury. Just who the fuck is in charge?

Hmm if Wimmer was the top target for Centre Half I wonder why we had negotiations with Harry Maguire weeks before him then. Just working our way up the list from the bottom? Maguire obviously chose Leicester over us. Are you then suggesting Wimmer was forced on Hughes?

So the major overhaul will probably be get rid of the scouting network as it must have been their fault(along with Hughes) as Cartwright and Scholes are untouhable

Do you also accept that these are the same fuckwits that have got us relegated and left us with no direction whatsoever? Yes, not for a second saying that massive mistakes haven’t been made. Leaving it so late to get rid of Hughes was the main one. I was trumpeting that bandwagon this time last year. Mistakes have been made across the board but it’s my personal opinion that the departed manager was the biggest culprit. Creating a holiday camp atmosphere where he dared not challenge bad discipline (from a good source), lack of a proper pre season fitness regime, along with some awful judgement in player recruitment (both ability and character) effectively sealed our fate. He should never have been allowed to get to that point. The board are at fault for not getting rid earlier and messing up his replacement. No doubt Cartwright will have made big errors as well. But I’m not prepared to put all the blame on him when I don’t know an in depth critique in his part in it. If the club think he’s doing a good job I’m happy to take it as face value, rightly or wrongly.

“I will meet with my team of scouts to discuss various positions and targets and whilst they are out travelling every weekend and during the week watching games, I am more specific and only go to watch games where there are potential 1st team players to make decisions on. There is a lot of information gathering and due diligence to keep me nice and busy!”
A smashing extract from the Congleton paper interview.
Sorry Mr Spinks you and the club have been found out by several pertinent links discovered by posters on the Oatie

Can see things going 'a bit West ham' in terms of tempers boiling over with the people in charge. Especially if they continue to serve up shit like this all summer after a statement that seemed like they were willing to learn from their mistakes and a promise of change / overhaul.

The article keeps referring to his ‘Supporters’ who the fuck are they? Not one single person who has any affiliation with Stoke can say the recruitment have done a good job. It’s a stomach turning PR stunt taking us all for fucking retards! The one thing it looks like he does is ‘Tap Up’ players to see if they want to come which we are not allowed to do.
Pathetic from the club, pathetic from The Sentinel as per ... Get fucking real. To be fair, what is the deal with ‘tapping up’ I didn’t think you could speak to players until a bid had been accepted. Is this the way around it; getting agents/technical directors to ask the players on their behalf?

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that Moritz Bauer's medical was undertaken on the morning of the Coventry match, when Mark Hughes was the manager. On top of that, Eddie N. claimed that Bauer had been spotted by Mark Bowen. I've replied to Spinksovitch with that, no reply as of yet

As a fully fledged in the knower:
Cartwright advised against the signings of Wimmer and Berahino.
Re Wimmer it wasn't understood why another centre back was required at that price when the Club already had Shawcross, Zouma, BMI, Cameron, Sweeney, Sputter etc
Hughes stamped his feet and got what he wanted.
Re Berahino. Hughes wanted him come what may and stamped his feet til he got him.
Info comes from a good source without an axe to grind either way

So he does exactly what I have said he does 100 times on here, which is to sort out the contracts, no more than that, and he may well be very good at it I don't know. I think it would help him a lot if he wasn't called 'Technical Director' though which suggests something much grander and is the reason he is taking some of the flak for poor player selection. Yeah his job title is way off the mark isn't it? For me a technical director would dictate the methods we used in training, the sort of manager we employed, the sort of player we recruited etc. That's what I'd expect. It seems like from that article that he doesn't do much of anything.
