FFS lets hope it's not that vile behemoth Feltz Christ no. I sincerely hope that Dave is wrong with the Cox woman. It has to be a bloke, I just can't think of anyone. Maybe they'll haul some poor unfortunate in from a regional station, god forbid.

Re tune the radio in the new year it is then. Certainly looks that way. We already have retuned but the missus switches back for Ken Bruce and Pop Master and then switches over to some other station afterwards for the rest of the time. I don't listen much but I have to say that's pretty awful as well.

I’ve got no problem with it being a non white straight male asking as the person does it good. And is not hired just for being a non white straight male.
Breakfast shows on radio are important to be good. They start your day, driving to work etc. No controversy just decent music and chat no ego or too much seriousness. Evans and wogan before him were good. They realised what the listeners wanted and the shows were decent.

FFS lets hope it's not that vile behemoth Feltz I don't mind Chris Evans. My first thought was...please not big, fat Vanessa Feltz. She'd likely be delighted at the prospect of getting up earlier to guzzle more calories into her gastric-banded stomachs the big, fat cow. I always enjoy listening to Craig Charles. I'd vote him, and he's black so that's one point on the board and he fills the disability quota with him being Scouse.

Mayo would be great. He's on record as being unhappy at having to accommodate Whiley and lose the shows identity overnight. He doesn't need a sidekick he's more than capable of carrying a programme on his own.

Had to go out briefly yesterday evening to play taxi for dear old mum. Radio on and there's Mark Radcliffe churning out something that required a few Morris men to complete the package. Not a face for telly and certainly a suspect voice for the airwaves. Perhaps he needs a female accomplice.

I'd prefer Simon Mayo and let Wiley take over his teatime slot (she has already). This is the plan I think. Evans would have handed his notice in months ago and Wiley is being groomed to take over drive home show to release Simon Mayo for the morning stint. Do for me. The favourites are only what the BBC audience is voting and not guaranteed to be the outcome.

Had to take the missus to hospital yesterday morning for a follow up after her recent bout of sepsis. Just happened to switch the car radio on and who should be assaulting my ears, Trevor Bloody Nelson, standing in yet again for Ken Bruce, but just for the day, thank goodness. My god he was absolutely dire, atrocious "banter" which just isn't right for Radio 2, he even manages to ruin PopMaster, and then he played some of his "music". Typical dance stuff, and other crap, and this was at about 10.30am. He's just not right for the station but he seems to be the default stand-in for Bruce.
We stuck it as far as the hospital car park but switched to something else on the way home.
I really hope Mayo does get the breakfast slot as it could entice us back to listen again but as it stands at the present time we just can't stand the line up (Bruce excepted), especially with the awful Steve Wright as well.

Fingers crossed Mayo.

Thanks very much - the doc "said" he was happy with the missus's recovery, but her right leg still swells up quite badly after she's been on it even after half an hour or so, and then she has to rest for a couple of hours. The doc also said if there's any sign of the leg changing colour (it was maroon/purple when she was in hosp) then she must go to A&E immediately, no if's or but's, and no delay. He's also given her a week's stock of the extra strong antibiotics that she was on in hospital just in case she does start with the problem when we're on holiday next week. Didn't exactly fill us with confidence. She's also got another follow-up in 6 months time. We felt as though they're not totally happy with her but unless the problem reappears it's sufficient to "monitor" the situation. The missus listens to some awful music but even she draws the line at Trevor bloody Nelson even when she's feeling well !

Met Simon Mayo when he was presenting Radio 1 Breakfast Show in 1990 when I was serving on a patrol ship around Falkland Isles. He spent 2 days onboard with the intention of doing a live presentation, interviewing crew etc. It was so rough at the time of the broadcast we had to go find shelter and anchor for a few hours. A very pleasant bloke.

Craig Charles would get my vote - however I think he only has time for standins-specials, but you'd well imagine it could be Mayo, if they don't need to box-tick. Mayo's drivetime show has descending into a steaming pile of poo, having two DJs trying to chirp in with their comment isn't working at all. And what I perceive to be Wylie's Music choice is like listening to someone's 9 year old daughter pick the records.

Thanks Auntie, she must be feeling better as she's finding fault with things again, me included obviously ! Maybe we're just getting older and don't like the change on Radio 2 ? I actually think there are many listeners who don't like the "modernisation" of the station but just can be bothered to complain or even just comment to the Beeb. No doubt it wouldn't make any difference anyway as whoever is pulling the strings now obviously wants it to go in thus direction and with this "style" of music. I saw an article recently which explained why lots of the modern "music" all sounds the same, and it's all down to the bands and record producers basically copying bits of other recently popular songs and incorporating those bits subtly into their own song so the public is virtually "guaranteed" to like it and therefore download/buy it, and then the process just repeats itself over and over. Do you ever notice how many songs nowadays have the main chorus line repeated 6, 7, more times. There was one song recently called, appropriately, "I can't stand it" where that line was repeated 8 times on three of four instances throughout a three minute song - absolute tripe. And there are many more like it.

I may be in the minority but I like it when Sara Cox stands in as she mainly about music and i do not mind her humour plus a northern voice.

But, although I love his soul and funk style, it may not be diverse enough for the powers that be on R2, particularly for a daily prime time slot.

The thing I can't stand about Cox is that "winning at life" slot she does around 7.15 whereby some really smug twat who got up a 4am to milk the sheep or even worse - to do a 10k run, rings in to make the rest of us feel like we should be out of bed.
No need.

We'll certainly try to enjoy it - going with friends as well so it should be a laugh. The missus has her list of must have cakes already sorted out Sachertorte. Apple Strudel. Vanilla Kipferl - sort of a crescent-shaped vanilla flavoured cookie Faschingskrapfen - similar to a doughnut but with apricot jam inside plus whatever else she can find. My personal favourite is Esterhazytorte - described as : "Many variations of this classic cake exist, but, generally, it consists of buttercream infused with liqueur sandwiched between beautifully thin layers of almond or hazelnut meringue dough (similar to macaroons) and topped with a white fondant icing with a distinctive chocolate pattern on top. The sides of the cake are covered in nuts, usually flaked almonds. Light, crisp sponge, soft buttercream, the chewy (in the best possible way) fondant icing and the crunchy almonds all come together to do something pretty fantastic to your mouth." We're also going to Neuschwanstein Castle on one of the days
