Wow,plainly, his contribution to our cause has been massive. I Just didnt realise how many games he's actually affected.

Lambert will put his personal feeling about certain players first before what is right for the club. Not quite - Lambert has made judgements about certain players and not played them because he believes that is in the best interests of the club. And on the whole he's been right to do so. Lambert's issues with Ireland are well known, If he was making these judgements based on personal feelings why is Ireland regularly making the bench? If it was purely down to personal issues he'd be out of the club or with the reserves. If you disagree with his judgement that's a different matter - but to say its down to personal feelings doesn't stack up.

We need a(n likely) hero...
Step fwd Stephen Ireland.
Well, not quite but his showing @ Man U, near miss last week (was it?) and the chance to prove Lambert wrong at the same time repaying the club for the faith shown in him during his long absence must be worth a punt.
It's not like we're spoilt for choice for creativity / goals up top is it?
I'd back him to start (in the team at the top of the Palace thread).

"He's contributed as much as Jese...." It's a long time since I've heard such unadulterated shite from anyone, anywhere, let alone on this massage board. Ireland is an obsessive trainer - first in, last out - , never complains, came back from a career-threatening injury, and each time he gets an opportunity to get on the pitch, he makes a positive contribution. In a squad sadly lacking in guile and subtlety, he should be in the team every week as the false 9, and if that means playing Shaqiri out wide, then so be it. Ireland should play in the last two games; he is as likely to score as he is to unlock a defence. Should we go down, and given that the family will close the wallet, and with Shaqiri gone, we should build our promotion-seeking team around him. I've seen Wes Hoolihan's name mentioned on here on various threads; Ireland is much, much better than him, and five years younger. Anyway, age is not a factor with players like Ireland, as he never had pace to lose. He always relied on technical ability and a quick brain. Jesus, the thought that people on here are so out-of-touch or myopic as to compare him to a robbing fuck-wit like Jese really pisses me off. I'm with you on this

Well said indeed banksisgod
Sadly however, you have to wonder is one of the out-of-touch myopics Lambert?

I'm with you on this what a brilliant idea!!!.....build a team around an injury prone player who has managed just 50 games in the last 5 years...sounds like a plan!

This is such a waste of a thread.
He won’t start today , won’t get a contract off lambert and won’t be around next year.
The managers personal bias has been put before the club. He’s managed the situation well by keeping him around the squad which was a necessity due to lack of options really.
But in his eyes he can now say he gave him a chance.
Whether he is injury prone or not - he’s been fit for the last 10 games and performed well in any game time he got this season so given our lack of creativity he should of been given a chance if no bias existed.

They have already begun preparations for next season by informing Stephen Ireland his contract will not be renewed in an email on Friday morning.

Who's making these decisions, with no manager?

Percy.. They have already begun preparations for next season by informing Stephen Ireland his contract will not be renewed in an email on Friday morning. Think that's a mistake if true. I'd have extended his contract by 12 months, low risk with decent potential upside. With Lambert gone hopefully they'll rethink

We need a clear out. I cant see the enthusiasm for Ireland. Yes. he's talented but he's barely given us anything for 5 years 11 games a season on average and just a handful of those being reasonable performances. Regardless of that debate, to sack someone by email is a c**t’s trick.

I am very disappointed by this; firstly, if it is actually true, as I reckon Ireland could have been an important figure for us next year, if given the chance. Secondly, surely any professional footballer deserves the dignity of being told in person that he is to lose his job? In a club that claims to show undue loyalty to its staff, this doesn't ring true, does it?
But if it is true, and on the day the manager was shown the door, who sent the e-mail?

He may be on holiday and asked for an e-mail who knows. Seems pretty unlikely. “Hi boss, I know you can easily tell me in a dignified way to my face when I come back from holiday, but instead can you ruin it for me by brutally telling me by email?”
