He says almost half the team at Saints had been targeted to sign for Stoke but he could not quite get them over the line. What stopped him? I reckon Coates and the signing on cronies made the decision on money. We have had 10yrs piling up loads of cash and Coates has spent some but none out of his vast fortune. He should have seen for years we needed a decent forward line but decided 'charity shop' players would suffice, well it's come back and bitten his arse, with empty corners and gates of 15k next season.

Think it's pretty well known that Tadic, Cedric, Redmond and Lemina were all targets for us.

I don't get this, "Stoke haven't spent money on players".
We have, but it has been the wrong ones; Wimmer, Imbula, Berahino.. As well as loaning players like Bony and Jese. We have also kept bringing players of the same type, usually attacking MFs, and not addressing the squad deficiencies, Hughes correctly addressed the deficient FB positions he inherited, but then neglected the positions for the rest of his tenure, barring Tymon.
It hasn't been that money has not been spent, it's been spent foolishly. Hughes says he coveted many Southampton players, which as ...mark says sums up his judgement when you see Southampton's record.
The problem Stoke is always up against is players like Redmond, Tadic, and Lemina will chose more attractive clubs like Southampton, West Ham, Palace, Leicester, and Newcastle before they will go to the likes of Stoke, Burnley, West Brom, Huddersfield, and Swansea. Although nowadays even a massive club like Newcastle is struggling to attract players.
Hughes is simply trying to boost morale of the players and ingratiate them and the fans.

Season ticket sales alone will be around 19k I reckon stoke will still get 24 to 28 this comming year Next year if no playoffs 22 to 25 Third year if no positives 18 to 22 If no positives after that the jcl will all fuck off and they will be down to the 15 to 20 based on success but it will take 4byears to get to this point

It’s just media drivel to make him sound like he knows the squad, similar to what Lambert did here, it’s a redundant point, he could say half of the Barcelona squad were targets for us in his time here, he’s just pandering to a new fan base.

He says almost half the team at Saints had been targeted to sign for Stoke but he could not quite get them over the line. . He loved a signing, did Mark. He made well over thirty of them during his time here, even though he seemed to prefer the players he inherited.. If he had got some of these Southampton players' transfers over the line, it makes you wonder how many would still be trying to get fit, or playing for the U23s, or loaned out.

It's both, we are one of the lowest spenders over the last 5 years and most of those below us are newly promoted teams. Then what little we have spent we have wasted.

Tell us about Peter Coates' "vast fortune" - bearing in mind he only owns 10% of bet365. That makes his vast fortune one of the lowest of any owner of a Premier League club. And, of course, owning a business (or part of a business) doesn't mean you can "spend" the value of that business. You can sell the business (or your share of that business) or you can spend the income you take from that business and Peter Coates' income from his share of bet365 will amount to a few £million per annum at most - enough to pay the wages of Berahino perhaps. More than you or I could fork out - but hardly a vast fortune methinks.

I've just seen him, shagging his new woman, live on TV. Didn't like it when the commentator said he'd already lost in the FA Cup! Said his usual line about his record stacking up to anyone's at Stoke, until the end, which is probably fair enough and a sort of admission it did all go wrong!

And ours are entirely due to Lesley mark Hughes being out of his depth. Sorry Old Crappy Boy but that's bollocks. There was a lot more wrong at this club than just Mark Hughes. Yes he lost the plot and yes he should have been sacked earlier but six top ten finishes with small clubs in the PL proves that he is not out of his depth at this level.
