Tunisia looking reasonably good, and well drilled, against Spain. Highest ranked African team too. Can see that opening game being a frustrating watch. Panama will be comfortable, but that one could be tricky. They all tend to be close games in the world cup mate. Even the lesser known/favoured teams tend to have good quality players and be well drilled/work hard. Even if we beat Tunisia and Panama I wouldn't be surprised if both were by the odd goal.

Half-time in Paris France 0 USA 1 ! Watching this one. Basically it's the US u-23s, and France look like a bunch of stars that have never met let alone play together. Good news for Australia, Denmark, and Peru.

Anyone seen that documentary where Lineker says he was speaking to Beckenbauer during the 1990 World Cup. Lineker said England had been practising pen's all week, Beckenbauer laughed and said the Germans practice them all their lives preparing for any tournament.

We are incapable of working out problems on the pitch.

TBF, I almost picked them to go all the way. I wouldn'tread too much into this. 1-1 now. Sure, I always use them though to make my picks. Probably because in 2006 I picked Italy based on results in their run-up matches, and they won it all. So, now I put my faith in them. Even though last time I picked Brazil.

I like Tunisia but Englad and Belgium should qualify comfortably from this group, Tunisia is the highest ranked African but they are not better than Morocco, Senegal,Nigeria, Cameroon .. etc.

Drew against Portugal, narrow loss against spain. You know them more than others on here. What do england need to worry about when they play tunisia?

Drew against Portugal, narrow loss against spain. You know them more than others on here. What do england need to worry about when they play tunisia? They are pure Tony Pulis team (defensive team + counter attacks), they are in the same level as "Egypt without Salah", our games with them are derbies so it doesnt depend on the quality of players, who stay calm the whole game wins, we played against them recently twice ended with 1-0 and 0-1. Individually they are not good enough, but as a team they can make troubles for any big team because of their organized defensive style of play. Most of their players are playing for Esperance and Etolie Du Sahel (Local Tunisian teams), both of them were knocked out by Al Ahly Egypt in the last African CL, one of the games ended with 6-2 for Al Ahly. 2 of their best players are playing in the Egyptian League (RB and LB), both of them are great in counter attacks (especially Maaloul LB who was linked with Watford recently) , very fast, but they are poor defensively. All their GKs are disasters. Check this video for their goalkeepers mistakes: 10, 8, 5, 3, 1 goals are for Ayman Al Matholothi, their number 1 keeper. 2 of their best players are injured (Al Mesakni + Khenissi). I watched their friendly games, they looked great but in the World Cup they cant make the same performance because Belgium or England on gear 4 are much better than Spain on gear 1. From this group I wish Tunisia and England to qualify, I predict Belgium and England to qualify, even if Tunisia got a draw from their 1st 2 games, the last game will be Belgium vs England with one of them already qualified resting their players and the opponent will qualify comfortably. At the end it is World Cup, did any one predict Costa Rica to lead a WC group including Italy, England and Uruguay.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44360546Decent article(s) on Southgate by, amongst others, his PE teacher, Alan Shearer and Steve Holland. I find it amazing that anyone can give him any flak for taking the penalty in Euro 96. There were at least three players (McManaman, Ince, Anderton) that just bottled it. Amazingly England made no substitutions in 120 minutes. That is unthinkable these days. As if we didn't bring at least two of Fowler, Ferdinand or Barmby off the bench to take a pen in the event of sudden death. Looking at the starting team, can anyone remember if we played three at the back in that semi? Seaman Southgate Adams Pearce Anderton Ince Platt McManaman Gascoigne Shearer Sheringham ???

I just finished my game predictions for the tournament.... I have England getting all the way to the final, to lose to Brazil. We beat Germany 3-2 and Portugal on penalties to get there though!
I'd be happy with that.
