www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-mark-hughes-sacked-998359Hughes was left fighting for his managerial life after losing 1-0 at home to Newcastle on New Year's Day. That result was a tipping point for the club's owners and he was expected to be dismissed next week anyway. But today's result forced a re-think this evening and leaves the club looking for a new manager in time for their next game at Manchester United on Monday week. They will expect to make an appointment next week and back him in the January transfer window.

I didn't think they'd get rid until it was too late but glad they have. Is O'Neil available?

Couldve happened 12 months ago but the infamous lap of honour to an empty ground should've really done it last may. I now fear that the extra 6 months he got has very possibly undone, thick end of ten years hard work. They need our support now MORE than EVER Tone. Time to move forward with a positive attitude

He's given us some fantastic memories. It's sad that it has come to an end in this way. And some fucking terrible one's, no way is it sad the arrogant twat has bought this on himself at least he has gone Another bonus to this sacking... you might eventually stop boring everyone with your inane drivel. Although I won’t hold my breath.

How did they manage to make that "official" announcement an hour ahead of the time it was supposed to happen? This is clearly fake news. Although jamie4stoke probably made a few people happy.
What?

There has been no mention of caretaker taking temporary control which I assume means they have a replacement lined up

Bit harsh, I was given the info and decided to share it. I could easily reveal the source of my guys info, but then theres everychance certain people may read it and i'll end up getting shit from my guy, and he'll probably never got told anything again. He was told Hughes has been sacked. It looks like he hasn't at this stage, but lets see what happens after the weekend. you can always PM me who your source is if you don't want to publicly announce it, but even if you did post it publicly it wouldn't affect further information because it proves he knows nothing. He wasn't bull shitting.

I really wanted him to turn it round, unfortunately he completely and utterly lost the plot. A heartfelt thanks for Bojan, Arnie and Shaq though, more than paid for my season tickets those 3.

Feel quite sad it's come to this. He got us off our seats and out of the Vinegar Tits slumber. Very disappointed in the club for how this has been made public last week though. Nobody deserves that.
It needed to happen but it needed to happen weeks ago before it even got to this. Hughes should also be the first on what is a complete shake up upstairs.
Peter, sorry but your time is up. You need to move aside and let your son move in with a new broom. Scholes, you also need to go. You have overseen this mess from day one to the very end.
Finally the two senior figures in the recruitment also need to be shown the door. If the new manager is experienced he will know who he needs and who he doesn't. There won't be any time for indepth scouting anyway. The recruitment over the last 2 seasons in particular has been a disgrace. The wrong types of players have been bought in with the wrong skill sets and the wrong characters. Too many cheap risks and loans have been taken in a league that throws money at it's members. How can you seriously fail if you adopt a sensible approach to recruitment? You can't. You simply can't. We've taken our eyes off the ball and taken it all for granted. We could possibly lose the lot.
Absolutely nobody comes out of this with any credit whatsoever. You should all be ashamed.

Apples and Oranges Wuzza. The priority now is to stay up. If that takes kicking bollock and brain to do so, so be it. The issue with the latter part of the TP era was that he’d shown we could play some good stuff and established us in the league, and just as we were on the cusp of the next level he dismantled it and reverted to turgid, one-dimensional, safety first stuff, leading to a decline in results and performances. We didn’t HAVE to play like that - he’d shown as much himself. Pragmatism must undoubtedly rule but you must agree though that there will be a certain irony attached to such an appointment. Not really mate. Context is everything. Pulis had to go just like Hughes did. Regression was gathering pace under both.

Yes, first two years good. Second two years bad. Yes, we all saw that he should have gone last May but at least you can say Coates never panics. Is it too late for us to stay in the Premier League? Well now we have a potential “new manager bounce” it couldn’t come soon enough because our most likely points are available in the next couple of months. The only light at the end of the tunnel is that the bottom half of the table is still very tight, so if we can take points off rivals we might scrape through so we can properly rebuild.
SQUEEKY BUM TIME!

Like sky news have just said, if Bowen has gone with him, who will take day to day duties next week?
It's going have to be a quick decision on the new manager
