To be fair to Shaq, he’s been far more inspiring to watch this season and his work rate and play have on the whole been good.( loads better than last season ) But whilst he’s been doing his job attacking, the defence haven’t been doing their job on the rare occasions we score, the opposition can usuallly get a goal back with in a few minutes. it’s frustrating when they are seemingly incapable of marking a player....I dread set pieces in front of our goal,we look so vulnerable defensively ...our players don’t seem to have the ability to do even the basics anymore...we seem to be forever back passing...we struggle to pass forward to our team mates accurately....these days. How often have the opposition scored from an unmarked position in the box, god it’s like we’re always down to 10 men.
Most of our players stick with whom ever is marking them ...no attempt to break free and get into space. Seems like that might be like accepting responsibility for the round object that might be kicked toward them. You’d think it was going to explode or something ...yet we let the opposition have acres of space ..we mark them from a distance, thus giving them time to get the ball under control when passed to them. We let them romp up the pitch with very little bother, the odd half arsed challenge might happen, but if not successful we then saunter back in our general goal direction, not with any urgency though...surely if the player your marking Gets passed you, you either look to get back and challenge them again, or if your teamate has stepped up to have a go you pick his player up ...it’s pretty straightforward stuff... I don’t want to tar all of the team with this brush but those that are working ...Joe Allen, Diouf, Edwards , can’t do it on their own and are getting pulled out of position doing other players jobs. I think we need to at least get Bojan and Muniesa back ...if nothing else they always seemed to have a happy disposition about them ....

He was worse than Crouch today, he really was that bad.

He's being made to pay for our shambolic midfield, in a nutshell. It's always somebody else's fault. Our midfield, or lack of it, has forced Hughes to play Allen further up the pitch and Shaqiri out of a position he was excelling in, so, yeah.

No. My point is, Hughes fucked up in the summer by not getting a top class midfield player to play alongside Allen. It has to be the #1 priority in the transfer window no matter who the manager is.

He has simply reverted back to type in the last few games. The sort of performances that led to the exit door at some significant clubs. We buy these sort of players full in the knowledge that if they had the attitude to match their skill they would be earning mega-bucks elsewhere so we can’t really complain when this sort of thing happens. When he’s good he is very good though,

Shall we go back to 3 at the back again then? No need to with a 4-4-1-1. With a striker who is mobile and full of movement. Shaqiri's best form for us was when he was linking up with Arnautovic as he was the only player we had with movement. Shaqiri needs options in front of him, not Crouch.

He got smashed by that tackle and then went hiding.
Really don't get why he didn't bring Ramadan on though.

Shaqiri took a hit early on and never fancied it after that.
For a player with so much talent he went missing when the team, and the manager, needed him the most.

Really frustrated me today by meandering on a gentle stroll back to the right side of the field instead of closing down a player 10 yards in front of him after a couple of corners in the first half.

most important match of the season, when you would think all the players would be pumped up and ready to give 100% for the cause, and then you see shaq stroll out on the pitch with his fcukg gloves on and looking disinterested right from the start, you could just tell by his demeaner that he didn't want to be out there in wet and cold, the fcukg pussy, all that he did in the time he was on the pitch, was to take a few fcukg corners, he;s a disgrace, and should never be aloud to wear our famous red and white shirt again, he should be fined two weeks of his fat pay packet, and then put on the transfer list with a few others,he's really a luxury that no one can afford, the little fcukg retard, get rid hughes, then fcuk off yourself, youv,e taken us as far as you can,now its time for a change.RANT OVER,i'm feeling a little bit better now that iv'e got that off me chest, until the next game.

That would be a good defence if he hadn't been our best player before we started playing Crouch and before we started using 3 defensive midfielders. He's bad with them, good without. Points to a correlation. Was it crouch's fault that he didn't run for that ball just before being subbed? I'm no fan of crouch but let's get real here. No but his form is in my opinion largely down to how the team plays with Crouch. He didn't run for the ball because there was a defender in the way and it wasn't to him, I've seen players do far worse, was just bad timing for the crowd.

Messaged one of his family members (Ari Shaqiri, who formed pirosoccer)after the game on Insta. Clearly lost the dressing room & by the looks of it the Shaqiri camp also, hence the lack of effort. Which is wrong, but he isn’t the only one. He needs to go. Hughes out 🙂

What I don't get is that by Hughes' own admission, to get the best out of him, he needs to be played centrally.
It's one of the main reasons he went to a back 3.
But it's like that's the only formation that he can play him centrally in.
Yet we've gone back to 4231 and he could easily play as the middle one in the 3 but he hasn't done it.
Why?

Ultimately, he's not good enough to build a team around. He's not a patch on Bojan at the peak of his powers. Even if he's the best of a bad bunch there, I'd rather just get shot of him if anybody will buy him and pay his daft wages and start again. We used to laugh at players like Shaqiri when we first got promoted, now we're relying on him as our supposed key player.

I think it's just a case of Shaqiri wanting out. Same with Butland, though he's a bit more subtle about it.

We can't afford players like shaqiri in our team, he just wants to run at players and shoot. In a top side he would probably shine, but here we need him to do the dirty work as well and he just isn't suited to our team. We need all our outfield players working together defending and attacking. It maybe hughes's tactics which are a factor too as let's face it they have always been shit.

Was poor today and should have been subbed in the first half when he was clearly not fancying it and was possibly? injured.
He has been clearly upset with Hughes since been pulled at Brighton where he was doing OK, this was compounded when he was pulled at Burnley where he was easily our best player.
Shaqiri is the latest in a list of talented players who Hughes has lost his bottle over how to use.
Jon Walters or Ryan Shotton would have been better suited to the way Hughes was asking Shaqiri to play today.
If any offer (£15M +) comes in we should take it, unless we are going to change the manager. Hughes burnt the last of his bridges with Shaqiri today.

In the short run we're better off without him, because he's just not made for the kind of fighting that is needed at this point. But in the longer run he's the type of player we need if we are to rise above our current level, i.e. get back to where we were before the rot set in. We'll need more than one ray of sunshine, but his being here is probably going to attract one or two foreign plsyers to come here.
