The ease with which attacking forwards run directly past Shawcross and in the gap is astonishing.
Ryan needs a third eye π π π

I'm a big fan of how every single header he makes goes to an opponent.
Although Wimmer makes him look like Franco Baresi.

I really think when Indi returns we should look at playing him and Zouma. Right now Ryan and Wimmer look very poor. A 4 of Edwards Zouma Indi Eric would fill me with a lot more confidence.

Points are important but you can put down the amount of conceded goals to a leaky back line. That will need addressing soon.

Shawcross misses having Huth or even Faye to tell him what to do. Now he has to think for himself and the result is ugly and not what you need when you're struggling. He appears incapable of distributing the ball to a team mate and for at least the 4th time this season he goes for a ball and completely misses.

Sparkyβs quandary is, does he drop his captain? or sell him to Newcastle and buy someone better than Ryan and Wimmer?

The ease with which attacking forwards run directly past Shawcross and in the gap is astonishing. Ryan needs a third eye π π π He's never been the best reader of the game, and as he gets older and less mobile that's all too clear sadly - with the right partner and with Tone briefing Ryan heavily, we were able to play to his massive strengths, he's always been brave as a lion, great tackler, reliabke header of the ball. But in the shambles that's been our defence for the past 12 months it's maybe no surprise he's looked exposed too often.

I always felt that out of the two Huth had a better football brain, Ryan has never looked the same player since he was sold it's as if he doesn't trust his defensive partner maybe it is a consequence of partnering Wolfy and now Wimper, he has been a great servant to our club but he is creaking at the moment might be time to consider other options.

Shawcross didn't ball watch today, but he made a crucial and silly mistake! He pushed out in hope of leaving Randon in an offside position, but with no pressure on the man with the ball this is not something you should do. Something of the first things you learn as a central defender! Why he made this gamble I really don't know, but it was very unnecessary and risky!

I thought Wimmer was very good today. Didnβt put a foot wrong and made a few cracking tackles and interceptions. Also played some neat passes to Choupo.

On the whole I thought he dealt with Rondon quite OK. Shame he keeps making silly mistakes.

Shawcross needs a special player to develop a kind of partnership on the pitch. Selling Huth was a major mistake IMHO as they played very well together. A Gerry Taggart-esque player could lift Shawcross to old heights.

Is he playing with an injury? π€
Not been the same since back surgery imo

It's always the same isn't it. The desire of Shawcross bottled with the skill of Shaqiri...if only eh.
We all know that if we had such a player he'd be playing for someone far higher in the league than us.
Man management and coaching come to mind, however, if we had a coach that good he would be coaching a team far higher in the league than us =)
I know most think I'm a miserable b**tard (37 years married I'm entitled) but seriously this is why we have to build year on year.
A club in our position can't just walk up and buy it off the shelf like the Manchesters do.
Shawcross is ok in a back four , in a three he struggles in my oppinion, then again we have others to replace before we get to him. again In my oppinion.

Is he playing with an injury? π€ Not been the same since back surgery imo I've been thinking something similar. There is a pre-injury and post-injury version of Shawcross - or does it coincide with our loss of form 18 months ago? Our back four (or back three) has changed a lot during this time and may have caused a lot of uncertainty.

There seem to be some humongous gaps between Ryan and whoever else is playing centre back these days. It only takes a fairly average/obvious ball through or over and itβs all down to Jack! Game after game after game.

I still rate him highly as he is winning everything in the air and is also the defender that blocks most of the shots at our goal. In my view still our most important defender! Horror mistake today though!

As I said before, relieve him of the captaincy take the weight off his shoulders and maybe he'll concentrate on his game more and we'll see the old Ryan.

Everyone in defence is struggling because in front of them our midfield is non-existent. There is no pressure on the ball

He's never been the same since the rule change that took his grappling and man-handling out of the game. Fucking stupid decision made by idiots pandering to pathetic little cry babies if you ask me, Football is a fucking contact sport. Well Rugby was always the contact sport, then girls hockey was brutal then football but now it comes in just ahead of tennis and slightly behind dancing on ice. There was always something good about a block tackle from a solid defender that saw the little winger go flying through the air like a human cannonball. Here inchy demonstrates
