We need a minimum of four new first teamers, not squad players, genuine "one of the first names on the team sheet" starters. Whether the current recruitment team can manage that and whether old man Coates will sanction the spending remains the big question. Yes we do. Luke Shaw is available at £20m. Ok they won't all cost that but four ready first teamers will cost at least £50m Balls in Stokes court

Unfortunately Mr Coates it's a little too late. A few million isn't going to cut it WHOEVER the manager is. Depends on how much it is and how wisely it's spent. Coates has no choice but to spend a fortune And he'll have to if this mess has a chance of being sorted. He will be paying over the odds in fees and wages to sign anyone remotely who could make a difference.

So many questions to be asked over that deal. That embarrassing "ambition" announcement seems an awfully long time ago. Just how ill conceived was that????? Humiliation springs to mind. I'm glad this has all happened in a way, so long as we can fix it in time. Everyone employed by the club seems to have just thought we could "just wing it" in this league. Hopefully reality is setting in. For all the stick Denise gets, I'm would virtually guarantee she has rang her Dad regarding our potential collapse....

Great. 18m on another bag of shite. Or spunked up the wall on a striker when we need reinforcements through the middle and at right back...

If we can sign a right back, combative pacey defensive / centre midfielder (I feel sick saying this but I'd love Drinkwater), a right or left wide man and a centre forward then I'll think we will be okay
--------Butland---------
New RB Zouma BMI Pieters
-------Allan New DM------
New RW Shaq Sohbi
----------New CF---------
Your talking best part of 100 million quid in a window where people don't sell.
Basically, we're fucked

Well this has bitten Coates well and truly on the arse.
Should have got rid of Hughes in the summer, bottled that and give him barely any money to spend, and the money he did give him he spunked on Wimmer, hoping we could survive a season on the cheap, however he now realises that we’re dropping out of this league unless we invest heavily in January, in the managerial and player departments, so instead of getting a new man in in the Summer, letting him assess the squad and choose players accordingly, he’ll now have to spunk three times as much to sort out the mess that we’ve sleepwalked ourselves into, had a mare there Peter.

Probably however he's virtually out of the door there, Newcastle have been linked but don't fancy the price. Just using him as an example of how much this could cost. We might get one at a reasonable price but yes otherwise we will have to pay over the odds which is very much against the grain for Coates.

I really can’t see how he can trust Hughes with money again🤔So whatever the outcome on Saturday he has to go for me. Also it was only 4 months a go the Chairman said we had the best squad of players we’ve ever had,I wonder what he thinks now?

Last week Hughes said there wasn’t any or he envisaged very little activity.
Luke shaw won’t come unless it’s on loan. Sturidge and Giroud would be good for us on loan but I can’t see either to be honest. Have a feeling Benteke may be available. The only players we are likely to have a sniff at will be players looking for more game time.

Don't think we need more than a right back and Cameron-style Defensive mid with a bit more ability for this season. Possibly another winger if Jese loan is terminated. £30-40m maximum if we're smart and have a new manager and we'll be fine.

Orange an apple and a few peanuts in a string bag won't do for this years Christmas present. Not even a knitted balaclava with matching gloves will do the trick. (for you young ones , seriously that's what I used to get) I'll have to give that Benji a job on the board he knows more than we do about football and that miserable old twat Rivival will get a job as fan liaison officer and general Pulis deterrent. When they said we were struggling to stay up I thought we'd ran out of Vigra ....they can buy there own sodding pizza this time....

Interesting how they mentioned the Jesé loan could be open to termination too. I said when he went back to Spain this time that he would not be coming back. I stand by that comment. Is he’s still being paid? Surely there’s a breach of contract.

Hopefully Hughes won't be the manager when the window opens. It's just a shame that Scholes and Carto will still be around as I can't see enough signings, or enough of the right signings being made whilst they're still at the club.
January isn't the time to do it but we really do need a real purge throughout the club to give it a complete overhaul on and off the pitch.
I can't see us suddenly having a "Carlsberg" window with the current manager and "transfer team" still in situ.

The 'Subject' of this thread is a little misleading. The article actually says: " Whoever is manager come the January transfer window, chairman Peter Coates says there will be money to spend." Little? It's HUGELY misleading and really does need changing. Has Coates suggested to Spinks that Hughes might not in fact be the manager in January? "Sales in January inevitably depend on who is manager."

"Sales in January inevitably depend on who is manager." I like a little understatement! The answer to that question would be far more interesting than the article itself which is just the usual January platitudes from the Chairman. Why has Spinks phrased it in that way? You might say what he has said is factually correct for all circumstances but the default position for crafting such a sentence would be that the funds would be made available to the incumbent manager so why not just say that

It really is a terrible title for the thread.
