Should be the next Stoke manager IMHO. Peter Coates has nothing to lose and everything to gain. A play-safe appointment will result in more of the same which is now slipping remorselessly towards relegation. Nothing to lose???? amazing statement.

Not Graham Potter related but a similar sort of theme.....
James O'Connor has won the USL league managing Louisville City last night. I've watched them quite a bit since their inception and he's done really well. Every season he seems to lose half his team and then rebuilds it and his sides have a good balance about them between attack and defence.
I hope he can get a job in the MLS/Football League soon.

An interesting lesson to other young up-and-coming English managers. It doesnt hurt to take a job in another country and see if you can cut the mustard there.
Good on Graham for taking the plunge and making a name for himself

He's done really well Louisville, they've been pretty consistent in his time there despite the player turnover. But the standard isn't the best tbh. I'm guessing League 2 at best. But it's a good start.

Congratulations to Graham Potter and Östersund! Winning tonight and now qualified for next stage in the Europa League. A truly fantastic achievement with the resources at hand. And the way they play... I really hope Mr Potter is on Stokes radar for a not too distant future.

But that would be about the only way as I couldn't see him getting a gig at any PL club. But what an achievement that is to get that side to 2nd round of the Europa League.

whilst Everton and Berlin crash out Yes, Everton could do worse than make him an offer. So could we. It is obviously a big risk but, if a Prem team does tempt him back to England at the end of the season it could prove to be a master stroke. Equally, it could be a disaster - football is a funny old game!

I think it is probably a good idea to bring in GP as U23 manager and deputy to Hughes. Glyn Hodges does not have a good record in getting the best out of his players and needs to be replaced. A failing U23 team is not something which should be ignored as it does affect the most promising players in the Club, and ultimately creates a problem for the First Team.

I don't expect anything is going to happen on the managerial front here, but if there were to be I would hope the club would bring in a proven manager at a top level in Europe. No disrespect to GP who's doing a great job but the job would be too big for him at this stage of his career.

Will be an interesting challenge for Potter who has been widely referred by the media including the BBC to as the 'former Southampton defender'. Factually correct he did play 8 games out of his career of over 300 league appearances for them. Southern Journos who continue to believe the country ends at Watford and probably share fruitcakes like Freddie Flintoff's belief that the world is flat

He has been a topic on the WBA boards as a replacement for Toxic Tone, given his association with the club. The common question was, " If he had not played for WBA, would he be on any shortlist for The Capped One's replacement?" No doubt the same applies to SCFC.

Probably never heard of him prior to the draw. But hey, it's Arsenal so the media scramble like flies round a dog turd to get as much info as possible.

A lot of his success has been put down to building team spirit and the relationship with the local community, whether that would ever work in the PL and with millionaire players is another debatable. Think he needs to go to a lower division club first, and be in charge, being an assistant wouldn't work, as he would never be able to put his techniques to work.

Offer him whatever Hughes is on, take the hit on relegation and let a young forward looking coach rebuild us. The alternatives to Hughes mentioned on here like MON, McLaren, Pearson, Giggs and Neville are too awful to consider. Bring in a young progressive coach who has served an apprenticeship abroad with staggering success but has knowledge of the English game. He's a gamble but one worth taking when you look at the shit were in at the moment.

Unbelievable.....

Realistically though, Coatesy's going to go for a stodgy, experienced, been-there-and-done-it 50+-year-old, isn't he?
We can debate the rights and wrongs - but that's what he'll do.
It'll definitely be a O'Neill, Bruce, Pearson type.
In fact, it's hard to see beyond those 3
