Their second goal is zonal markings fault not Kevin Wimmer's. This ^^ Doesn't matter how strong a defender you are, if you're rooted to a zone with a player running in from anywhere and the ball is spot on to their run they're always going to get higher and overpower the defender. By the time he's got to jump to make sure he's meeting it right, he's already got a 6ft 3" marauding massive bloke on him. He stands no chance.

I wish Son missed him so much he came to us. He's an excellent player.

Some Stoke fans show their ignorance when they rush to judgement on a player. Wimmer has not played very well in his first 2 matches, so what? £18m is the going rate for a young international player these days, wise up. He is still young for a top level CB, an international, Spurs don't snap up poor players, and they have so much talent on their books they were prepared to sell for the right price. He will get to grips with his new role and develop an understanding with the rest of the team, be patient. Says who? Are they immune from making bad signings? Why do you think they sold him.

Two games ago we completely shut-out the dead-ball kings aka WBA on set pieces and were actually praised on MotD for the quality of our zonal defending. I think our zonal marking generally has been quite effective. When we were doing man-to-man, apart from Ryan's grappling, I can remember plenty of occasions when markers lost their man. No system is perfect and a good delivery to a big powerful central defender is always going to take some stopping. It would be good to see one of our central defenders get a goal like that.
This may be very harsh and things tend to look possible in slo-mo when they are not in real life, but if we are judging by the highest standards I thought Butland may have done better with both goals. On the first the cross from the right travelled quite a long way and he might have been quicker getting across to the near post. This was mentioned on the stream commentary. For the second it was a powerful header from close range from Lascelles but it went in straight over his head. Could he have reacted better? I'm not sure.

The point in zonal marking is to move toward the ball if it's in your zone, Wimmer being rooted to the spot is his fault, not zonal marking. In fact, if you man mark, you're starting from the same position as the attacker, so have to react to his running, being later than him gives him the run. If you stop him running it's a foul (by the book), and we know Stoke will be penalised for that. I'm not sure why people are against this zonal marking, from my view this season it's looked very good, certainly far better than last season, and to be honest better than we were when we man marked under Hughes. We look like we have a plan for zonal this season, and it's no small feat keeping West Brom out. It's impressed me so far, and one poor defensive performance isn't going to change my mind that quickly.

If we are marking zonally, and the corner taker drops it on top of our CB who is nearest the ball then our other CB's should see that someone is getting a run on him and also take a run and jump in on it. Same if it goes in the middle or the back stick. There should be someone trying to get a run to attack it defensively or just put off the opposing player.
That was such a bad and easy goal for them. But as someone else said, apart from last week we never seem to score them

People gave him a false rating on his debut vs the shit due to the result, I wasn't convinced, even in that game I thought he was shit. The 2 performances that have followed have backed up my judgement. This is a guy with virtually zero prem experience, only 2 years max experience of the bundesliga in a shit side, and we have spunked 18mill on him and half our fans are wanking over it because of the price tag. He is shit, and will always be shit. A liability we will have to put up with. Fuck my life

Fuck my life I wouldn't mind but Imbula still has several years of his contract left, and berahino looks like he gave up playing football years ago. Why can't we spend our money on players who we have recently seen play to a high standard? Fucking fucksticks it is infuriating. Just what the fuck does this lad bring to the table. He looks wank in every aspect of his game. He can't even keep track of his man

It is the transfer policy. Sign young up and comers develop them, get the best out of them, and sell them on at a profit. The only problem is our absolute dog wank scouting team and head of recruitment that has plied his trade at fucking leek town can't spot potential if it smacks them in the bastard face. They should all be embarrassed. And people will say shut up he's had 3 games but fuck that, il come back in 12 months when he's still on the payroll and not getting in to the 18 and tell them fuck off. Our recruitment when it comes to major transfers is a shambles

Maybe we could loan him out somewhere and get him off the payroll and get him match sharp. He's not really played this last couple of years.
Tottenham signed him for 4 million. Do nothing with him. Let him waste away without playing, then we sign him for18 million and surprise surprise he is light years from being an 18 million defender.
In the space of a few days he has been rinsed by two sets of championship standard plodders
