Looks on fire in pre season
Appears we wont miss arni if he keeps this form up, awesome v monaco and scored with a really good run yesterday. He excites me every time he's on

We need employee four extra masseurs to keep him fit 2 for each calf!

Be prepared for some last minute shenanigans when some European 'name' club decides to make a bid before the window closes.

Keeping him fit will be crucial and not exactly a foregone conclusion.

My biggest worry is when he goes away for international duty. That seems to be when he picks up a lot of his injuries. He is our best outfield player by a mile and without him I think we would struggle to stay up.

I'd build the team around him to be honest. A solid base that means a new centre half and right back with Zouma as the defensive midfielder.
Shaqiri is relieved of all his defensive duties in a completely free role.

Totally agree. If we can stay in games against any team in the league, he has the ability to win matches on his own, whether it's a killer pass or a goal.

The interesting thing about his goal last night (only seen replay) was how central he was.
He hadn't just cut in from the right, he ran across the box from a central position into the inside left channel. Maybe the coaching team are encouraging Shaq and Saido to be more fluid.
Sobhi was running the opposite way too, left to right, and picked out his run. If Shaq had squared it Saido or Joe Allen might have been in.
Hoping there is going to be more movement up front than last season.

For me shaq is a very good very annoying player
Great skill on the ball and great vision.
Can't be arsed to track his runner unless he feels like it
I think he's a number ten and a very skillful one
If only for the unsatisfactory reason that he is too lazy to play out wide.

I think it is time to give him a go in that Number 10 role, which once again pushes Bojan out the team. The fact is, as annoying as Xherdan is, he has been worlds above Bojan lately. I hope the departure of Arnie hasn't unsettled him either.

Shaqiri is a very very good player. He knows if he wants to leave, top clubs will be looking at him and I don't just mean the likes of dog shit like West Ham.

I agree; however, with Walters gone, this leaves only one option on the right side, which is Diouf who is OK in that position but not exactly a world-beater. Everyone else we have tried on the right side has not worked out. This highlights the fact we still have a lot of square pegs for round holes.

With Whelan gone, and Pieters and Shawcross well past their best, they have to give serious consideration to making Shaqiri the captain and building a team around him. That also strengthens the argument that he should play in the middle where he can have more influence on the flow of the game. Sticking him out on the wing never did make any sense to me. Maybe Hughes will finally abandon this reverse wingers bollox, which never did work very well anyway. Unfortunately, Hughes is a stubborn old bugger and doesn't seem to like admitting he's wrong.

This is the problem, I reckon it will have, shaqiri always seemed then more ambitious one, and more likely to treat us like a stepping stone. But now Arnie's gone, I bet he'll get itchy feet.
