As always a good post from Hammered.
In relation to young I'm not totally against it as long as his role is backup to Sobhi as he's a safe pair of hands and I'm not sure Verlinden can start loads of games yet if Sobhi or Shaq are injured. He can also cover wingback too.

£150k being reported and their highest paid player. Watch out for a divided dressing room and player revolt. Won't be that much pal, what are your chairman doing with the extra millions in sky money. Probably lining their pockets and buying more whippets.

I can't for the life of me work out how a fast approaching 30 Arnie and Hernandez are going to form a partnership, alongside someone like Ayew who hasn't played much for the club, quickly enough to have any impact on the top 6.
It seems very odds on that they'd avoid any relegation worries for another couple of years, which is a success for anyone outside last seasons top 6 sadly to say, but they've left themselves in a position where they will have to do the same again in a couple of years just to stand still.
I thought they'd learn their lesson about pinning all their hopes and dreams on players in their peak from Payet, but they've repeated it with players who aren't anywhere near as good (and I'm probably someone who thinks of Arnie higher more than most!)

Would actually be sane if he played every week. Given his usual games per season it's like paying a non injury prone player 300k!

In 15/16 the spread finishing 8th – 17th was 21 pts. In 16/17 – it was 6, or a couple of poor ref decisions from relegation. I can’t see that any of the established clubs can be happy with last seasons return and bragging rights when 46pts lands you 8th!! Ignoring the top 6, Everton had a good season and now with money on paper made the best squad progress so far this window but likely Barkley, Lukaku gone and a new style next season questions whether they’ll be better or worse but got to assume 7th spot reserved for them. The best middling clubs can manage is staying in touch, 8th by getting the better players at either end of their career but usually on the way down (Zabaletta, Rooney etc) and WHU’s business has a bit of that. But they’ve also secured players at their peak which maybe gives us a bit of a chance of being best of the rest? Having said that I'll judge the business properly once we've kicked off the season and they're wearing the C&B - until then it's all opinion. Hart - £4m for the season (includes wages) and arguably better than Adrian who’s now got to up his game – good competition and good business given that he’ll be hooking up with Zabaletta again and if he can find his old form – well who knows? I can understand his detractors and get Butland’s potential/future greatness but Hart has a big season ahead to get his reputation back or fade away. Signing him also allows Randolf to move - £5-7m for him more than pays. Zabaletta? £Free Top professional low wages (relative) who can cover 3 positions including DM right now. Good pull for other players (especially Argentinean) and a leader in dressing room. Happy with him. Arnie? No Payet and still not confirmed but better than we had. For £20m in this market we’ve done OK but he’s hardly a bargain and Stoke have hardly been robbed. We’d better get “the Maverick” Arnie (who could get PDC status) with a bit of controversy and a few bonkers goals than a sulky one when Bilic doesn’t pick him – but as things stand we’ve lots of AMR/L and for me wasn’t a priority position. Got to be thinking at least one of Snodgrass, Feghouli, Ayew have got to be shifted before the end of the window. Hernandez? £13m + big wages but still a real coup. Give him service and he’ll score – I think our attacking talent can do that. Also good in the air for a small bloke and from a PR perspective has over 8m twitter followers or 8x the number the club has. Very cute business IMO. We’re also linked with Keita Balde (ex Barca) from Lazio at £27m with (apparently fee agreed) and down to player etc.. It’s unlikely to happen as Juve want him; it’s a choice of being 1st pick at WHU or 5th choice over there albeit a CL club? This would be this windows unrealistic target Sullivan has a punt on, make a lot of noise but don’t sign etc… Whether it’s him or someone else we still need another striker – Carroll can’t be relied on and Sakho’s his constant mate in the physio room. I’ll also predict we’ll take a punt on an African midfielder and a South American forward or two and use our full loan quotas by Sept 1st. Top balanced post as ever. Only rival who posts sensible football knowledge on this board and welcome.

Fellas, I understand that you are feeling a little sore towards us cheeky East End chappies for pinching your best player, while we hope that he becomes a star turn, of course you will be hoping that he has a career ending injury on his debut, that is the way of the football supporting world, we wished the same on Payet.
I also understand that you are not too enamoured with our owners, guess what, neither are we!
You also seem to have a bit of anger and dislike for our marvellous and unique football club, I have to let you know, that we don't like your mob too much either, but don't be too flattered or offended, we don't like any other club, again common football supporter mentality.
However, the reason why I have chosen to register on your site and post is in response to the bullshit accusation that we were gifted a stadium. Of course I would not have expected you to have followed the process as closely as we did and so can I just enlighten you on how we became tenants, but before I do, maybe I should point out, for those of you who didn't travel down for your visit last November, that the place is an absolute kharsi, it is not fit for football and has changed our club for the worse forever. Not expecting any sympathy from you on that, but please understand the following.
The white elephant of an athletics stadium was a massive ego trip by Lord Coe & Co, who flatly refused to consider an alternative use other than athletics for post Olympics at the planning stage, indeed you could argue that we were given the games on the proviso that there would be an athletics legacy. However once the games were secured, it was pretty obvious that there couldn't be a viable ongoing athletics use for the stadium, so the owners of our club understandably saw a geographical opportunity and entered into negotiations to buy the place outright and an agreement was eventually reached. However, then the charming and always helpful Mr Levy of Spurs and Mr Hearns, then of Orient, mounted a legal challenge to the sale to us and that decision was reversed. The stadium then went out to tenant bidders, at which point, surprise surprise, there was only one viable application, ours. How I wish we had told them to stick it at the point in time and figure their own way out a self dug, almighty embarrassing hole!
Now, our owners are a lot of negative things, but stupid they are not, they knew very well that at this point the LLDC were absolutely over a barrel of their own making and Sullivan, Gold and Brady absolutely rogered them senseless and secured an amazing deal, if they hadn't they would have been in dereliction of their duty as West Ham owners/directors. It wasn't West Ham's responsibility to make good the absolute folly of Coe and the others involved in the ludicrous planning process for the stadium.
Now in the unlikely event that the Olympics had been held in Staffordshire, I am sure that your savvy Coates family would have been equally keen and able to rape the owners in the same circumstances.
The problem for us now, and this will thrill you, is that we are stuck with an appalling, atmosphere less bowl, which in "football mode" is an embarrassment and is being filled via a "gentrification" process with polite spectators, to try to turn us into an East End Arsenal, a club which Brady never ceases to spout her admiration for. Never again will you fellas have to think carefully about a visit to WH, those days are left behind at Upton Park and as we are only tenants, thank you Levy & Hearns, we can do naff all about it.
Right now the stadium is in "athletics mode", for the current raspberry games and the world championships next month and the place has had to be "debadged" with all external WH reference for the events. Charming, a real reminder that we are homeless!
So in conclusion, we sold our old cracking little shithole, but it was our beloved little shithole, for an abortion of a venue, it's hideous and again I expect no sympathy, but please get your facts right, it was not a gift to us from the taxpayer, sadly for us, we prevented the country being left with a rust bucket as a embarrassing reminder in the middle or an enormous Olympic Park.
I hope that this clarifies the situation!

Can't see the point in folk having a go at West ham for signing slightly older players when we have oldies and the youngsters never get a game. Worry about Stokes lack of strengthening (so far).

Best player?? I thought you signed that clown Hart for your excuse of a goalkeeper not Butland! We are actually laughing at you having learnt the details tbh. MA and his brother are basically shafting your club with a brass cactus. There is no way on this earth that he is worth the money that you are wasting on them both. We have been an absolute joke in attack these past few years and MA has been a mainstay cog in said attack. See the stats, low scorers and low chance creators. Coincidence??? You have also paved the way for us to spend in the actual areas that needed addressing, whilst freeing up one of the most exciting players we have signed in our history. A young lad touted as the best talent in the whole of African football and who isn't motivated only by paper notes. Enjoy hours of shots into row z and the feigning of injury whenever the going gets tough (sometimes as early as the 3rd minute)! I'm sure you will soon learn, he will never be your payet.... even though you've gone all in to get him. Jokes on you lot I'm afraid.

You may well be right mate, it is definitely the West Ham way to frequently buy appallingly, however I have a feeling that this bloke will connect well with our support and perform, we have a history of mavericks becoming big favourites. We also have a history of having some utter cocks who don't put a shift in for their inflated salaries. If he will be a success or not wasn't the reason for posting, the complete lack of knowledge on how we secured our rented home was my motivation.

Good post and a bit of an eye opener for those of us with only a passing knowledge of the stadium story. Although in the 70's and 80's a youth's sized pair of Pampers were a pre-requisite for a trip to WHU I always enjoyed away days to Upton Park and rarely missed the chance to visit. Last year's game at the new stadium was a culture shock, it threw up in sharp relief just what WHU have lost by moving from Upton Park, I actually found myself feeling a tad sorry for genuine Hammers. No doubt I'll be at WHU this season once again, sadly I won't enjoy it nearly as much as Upton Park. As for Arnie, he's no longer a member of that select band of footballers entitled, nay, privileged, to wear the red and white of Stoke City so I now care not a jot about him, he's yesterday's man.

We are obviously of the same generation, UP in that era was a proper place to watch a game, I was always grateful that I was a home supporter there, not that ours was the only intimidating ground in those days of course, but it was hostile for sure!
This has to be one of the best posts, I have read on here. I truly feel sorry for you I used to love my visits to Upton Park, a proper club just like ours, naughty atmosphere, with proper fans. Now that shit hole you are in reminds me of how corporate the game has become. It was bad enough moving to the britannia, but that monstrosity, dear oh dear. My condolences!

Feel quite honoured that we now have our own thread on here. But Wet Sham? Really? Jesus, you lot can to better than that... No problem mate. You normally have one on every season anyway. It's called either relegation watch, or please go down. No offence of course.

For hernandez to score loads he will need service arnie didn't exactly provide our strikers with that many chances last season - so no West ham won't finish top 7.

Baby, thanks for reading! We are obviously of the same generation, UP in that era was a proper place to watch a game, I knowledgeablelways grateful that I was a home supporter there, not that ours was the only intimidating ground in those days of course, but it was hostile for sure! Understand your sentiments reference the Austrian, the king is dead, long live the king, quite right, shut the door behind you when you fuck off! I have met and chatted to few hammers fans over the years both home and abroad, they are passionate for their club as much as we are about ours. I find them honest, knowledgable, friendly.what a shame you are none of these
