I'd take him as he is a huge upgrade on Ryan. However it seems we will sign Bruno if we can't agree anything with Gibson

Hope he comes to us, quality defender at right back or centrehalf, gets a few goals too. No reason why he wouldn't choose you guys though, Southgate will have told him to choose a team where he plays every week or he may not go to Russia.

I'd prefer Bruno, but it's obviously turned into a game of chicken with Porto now, and ego is involved on both sides - even assuming that he would join if he could.
They don't want him and probably don't want to extend his contract - and he probably doesn't want to renew. But they know we're pretty desperate to get him in this summer and see us as a bit of a cash cow with the Sky money
Can see it running right through to deadline day when we see who blinks first, and which side backs down. This is their last chance to get decent money for him.
They won't want him to still be their player on September 1st, so we're probably banking on them relenting eventually.
But how long into August without another centre-half signed and sealed we can leave it, who knows?

10000000000000000% Get him here now! Living in a fantasy world though. He's much better than Shawcross. Can see him going Everton.

I've never thought Smalling was England class (and Shawcross was better than him many times Smalling got called up), but I'd take him at Stoke. I'd take Phil Jones over Smalling though.

We need a left sided cb, that isn't Smalling.

He's great at getting his body between the player and the ball
And he's quick
If only he was good on the ball he would have everything!
Still a good stopper centre half
Would be a big upgrade if he would come

www.football365.com/news/why-would-man-united-sell-smalling-for-a-songIf indeed the figures being quoted are correct and United are willing to listen to offers for Smalling, then the queue should reach around the block. There seems little sense in selling Smalling at all, but if Mourinho has decided the England centre-back isnt not for him, then United should be looking for a similar amount to that they paid Benfica for Lindelof Not sure I quite agree with that - but he'd be a great signing, especially at anything close to £10m. Geography could help us too, unless he wants to move back to London

Honestly had it been me I would have saved the £ 8 million we have shelled out for the 10 month loan of the raw as heck and injury prone Zouma and put it towards closing the possible Smalling and Bruno permanent deals. But what do I know...!

Perhaps we've lost patience with Porto, or it is designed to flush them out at last...

I agree, but being right-footed, Smalling isn't really a replacement for BMI. If he was signed for the middle of the back 3 then maybe I guess.

Unorthodox piece of defending against City the other night, whatever floats your boat Chris pal..
Nevertheless he'd be a great addition.

I think 3 top line Stoke City centre backs being Ryan, Bruno and Smalling would be the perfect solution. Injuries and suspensions will inevitably kick in and a bit of rotation shouldn't be a problem, modern players know its a squad game.

Yes, it's too late now, I was saying the £8 million we paid Chelsea for the pleasure of providing the very raw Zouma with a 9 month 'finishing' school before handing him back to his masters would have been better invested in closing one or both of the Bruno/Smalling deals. Just my opinion, I may be wrong. As you say its water under the bridge now.
