For some reason shawcross was in the stand today. He lives a couple of miles away and thought as captain of our club he'd go and watch the youngsters and give them some encouragement maybe?

For some reason shawcross was in the stand today. He's the club captain, his little lad plays in the Academy and he lives in Nantwich. Not really a surprise to hear that he was there.

There's a will on both sides to make sure it happens and I'm quite comfortable with that" "He's had a great career here, undervalued outside of Stoke. He's had his disappointments with not getting enough international recognition in my view, and the view of lots of other people. But when he finishes, which is a long way off, he'll look back on his time with Stoke with great pride"

Touching words from hughes, has to be said as I see Fletcher a better more inspirational leader than Ryan.

Just watching Merson on Sky talking through the weekend games and he and the programme's host said that Shawcross has signed for Burnley for £10Million - I am assuming/hoping that this is inaccurate

Yes we had that programme with merse last night saying shawcross had signed for Burnley, and we had Adrian Durham saying BMI had signed for another club last month. How can they get stuff so wrong? It's the only thing g they have to do yet get basics wrong.

Still nothing seems to be moving judging by Shawcross' comments at the weekend - and the centre-half links are still flying around... sportwitness.co.uk/stoke-city-crystal-palace-given-boost-pursuit-tottenham-player/LAOLA1 have reported if Sánchez signs for the Premier League club, the chance of Wimmer leaving Tottenham will become likelier, due to the competition for the centre back positions.
Wimmer has opportunities in the Premier League, and Austrian journalist Peter Linden believes Stoke City and Crystal Palace are keen. “The interest from Southampton was not really concrete,” he added. “I would like to stay in Premier League, because there are other possibilities.”
Wimmer refused to say the names of these clubs – but Linden revealed them as Stoke City and Crystal Palace.
According to LAOLA1, Tottenham were initially demanding €23m for the Austria international, but now they would be satisfied with €15m.

from Percy... www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/08/23/football-transfer-news-rumours-former-dortmund-boss-thomas-tuchel/Ryan Shawcross is in the dark over his future after Stoke’s failure to open talks over a new contract. Shawcross has completed a decade of service in the Potteries but his current deal runs out next summer and negotiations are yet to start. Stoke insist they will begin contract talks soon but Shawcross is bemused by the delay and could leave next year as a free agent. Stoke are hoping to move out record £18 million signing Giannelli Imbula, Bojan and Philipp Wollscheid before the deadline

Imbula would be on big wages, and I would assume Bojan would be up there when he signed a new contract. They could possibly be the two highest earners. If those two are off the wage bill, does it give the club a little more wiggle room?

I agree, but maybe it's more about removing that clause (if it actually exists) than the actual money.

Could be as simple as the transfer window is still open, like it or not we have a budget and want to know how much we are spending on wages etc at the end of it before we offer pay rises or clauses. Sounds like a sensible way to operate.

If it's as being reported the club are acting shamefully towards him.

Stop fucking about Scholes you prick. If Ryan has got the clause that allows his wage to match the top earner, it could be cause more problems than anyone can imagine. If we are to sign this supposed record transfer striker and we are willing perhaps to break the £100k a week barrier, Ryan is effectively holding this back. It's all very daft though as nowhere else is going to get near that wage. I am sure it will all come together at some point.

Well the club haven't even opened negotiations if Ryan is to be believed and certainly no offer has been made so its hard to see that the sticking point is on Shawcross's side at this stage.

Could be, but I find it hard to believe that either party would be entirely truthful using the media to communicate the current situation. Sounds to me that both sides are just keeping it as vague as possible.
