I love this quote from ryan shawcross in todays daily star( pg44) Ryan ' I spoke to chief executive Tony scholes at the end of last season and since then we have not spoken again ' Makes you wonder what scholes does to pass the time... That quote Is a pisstake to be fair ... bet Dyche is wanking himself silly.

In Hughes first two seasons Shawcross was superb. You're rewriting history..... It's only really last season and the end of the previous one that he has been sub-par by his standards. It's an absolute joke that he hasn't had an extension. We are turning into a massive shambles. I would give him an extension absolutely. Many on here have either written him off or disgracefully resorted to call him "wank" "shit" "past it" etc etc. The same posters who bleat about loyalty from Arnie show utter disrespect to one of the greatest signings in SCFC's history......

Ryan, who has given us 10 years of excellent service, most of which as captain, is, in my opinion, our greatest centre half in 40-odd years, plus he has stayed loyal when Liverpool, Man Utd and Everton were reported to be interested, so to see people slagging him off is a fucking disgrace. Yes, he's not the player he was 2 years ago, but he's still a better nuts and bolts defender than most and he would put his body on the line for us. Luckily, the idiots who slag him off are few, far between and are not real fans of SCFC. Anyone with an iota of common sense (including myself hopefully ) will have nothing but gratitude and respect for Ryan's contributions to promotion, consolidation, the cup final, Europe and, more recently, becoming a top-half side.

The deal has to work for both parties and, if Ryan is looking for three years on top of the year he has left (only a guess, by the way), at a pretty steep salary as would befit the Club Captain, I guess we're thinking twice. No-one knows whether the internal view is that his back is going to prevent him playing as often and at a high level. It's a head scratcher that's for sure, and the prospect of no Shawcross, Whelan and Walters next season is quite sobering.

I think another phone call to Burnley to see if they have a few more bottle tops to take him off our hands! Be careful what you wish for, there are one or two nasty scenarios that could occur if Ryan goes that I could mention, but won't!

Shawcross earned his reputation in the Pulis years when the penalty area was awash with his team mates. Under Hughes he has been average or unavailable. In the friendly games he has made a series of errors that do not bode confidence. It is no wonder that he has not been approached by his club to sign a new contract. At present we have no permanent signings who are better than Shawcross. It is therefore easy to understand why fans are worried. The season is just two weeks away. I hope the club know more about the Indi situation than they are letting on. IMO if we sign Indi we should also add a centre half that is better than Shawcross. We have Zouma for a season which will be a big help. I would not complain if we could acquire Smalling giving us Smalling, Indi and Zouma with Ryan on the bench. In Hughes first two seasons Shawcross was superb. You're rewriting history..... In your opinion Shawcross was superb in those two seasons. IMO those were challenging years for Ryan and he probably played at his best. How many big clubs came in for him. Have any big club made a bid for him? I feel sorry for Ryan that back problems have severely hindered his performances. He was never brilliant at his best. I believe Hughes is looking for three centre backs that would make Shawcross fourth choice.

It's my opinion that at the moment Stoke are looking to bring in two more centre halves; Martins Indi and one other. I have suggested Sakho on loan on this thread. I would like to see us playing with these three at the back and also see us using Edwards and Tymons as the wing backs.

Yet some of us are old enough to actually remember the last 40 odd years.
You say yourself "he's not the player he was 2 years ago" Good job that doesn't apply to all our players then as we'd be relegated for certain.
"Luckily, the idiots who slag him off are few, far between and are not real fans of SCFC. "
But slagging off other supporters makes you a Grade one fan doesn't it?
Well I've criticized a lot of our players and if I think they are playing shit I will say so. For me how a player takes criticism is one of his/her most important attributes, either they shape up or they ship out. Premiership football is not a group of kids who regularly meet up and have a laugh. They are paid large sums of money to perform to a HIGH standard and God knows we need Shawcross at his best, what we don't need is Shawcross not at his best or any other player for that matter. Alan Hudson was on the TV last night he was 10 times the player Sghawcross will ever be and I will always have respect for how he played for us just as I will for Shawcross but I don't want Alan in the side at the moment because he's not at his best. It is soooooo easy to put on a Man U top or a Chelsea top and claim to be a lifelong supporter of them, I know I remember how many around here put Leeds tops on during the Revie years then switched to Liverpool then United some even supported Celtic in the 60s when they won the European cup (I kid you not) But people who wear Stoke City colours or claim to be a fan do it because they belong here even Benji.

After yesterday's false dawn re the Ox, the question should be what's going on at the club? A total and utter shambles. How is a fabricated news story from the Sun sufficient proof to say our club is a total and utter shambles? The point I'm making is that we risk undoing all the hard work of the past decade if the club doesn't take some risk. I don't mean spending beyond our means, but our club may struggle this coming season if they don't pull off some signings because defence and midfield are weak imho.

Under no circumstances should Ryan be sold he deserves to stay for good. He's loyal and a 100% credit to Stoke and himself. Regardless of if he is suffering with injury which impacts on his former he should get a new contract and be given the opportunity to cement his legend at the club. He's my club captain and even when he fucks up I will not condem him. Thanks Ryan I hope you stay for another 10yrs 👍
