The HUGE problem we have is that in this league you HAVE to back your manager to progress, and if you don't then you are in for a rough season. Coates seems to want to stick with Hughes but want him to do it on a shoe string which is an absolute huge gamble for a betting coniseur! I honestly think if you want to be self sufficient then you should expect to yoyo between leagues, and there is no way on gods earth you can stay in this league and do so without spending cash, it's going to be a rough period next season that's for sure, but one thing that really grates is that Hughes stated there would be a huge clear out!!! Really? Some things just don't add up!

That's a great come back. Not. Your original post is a bit spurious though. He might have also got us relegated or into the Champions league, its speculation. If the next manager gets us into the top 6 with a significant number of Hughes signings by your logic we could claim that if given time Hughes would have done it anyway. Impossible? No but not likely.

Yes. Simply because he's employing Hughes.

Why didn't TP get the same results then? He might have done if hadn't been sacked. Well you can't say he didn't have the chance prior to him getting sacked, he was here long enough to at least have finished ninth once!!!

Three 9th's with a load of TP signings playing big roles. Why didn't TP get the same results then? Because he knows as much about attacking as Hughes does defending, when they were both in play it worked well.

No, he's having a shitter to and must do better. Toxic ain't coming back mate, get over it. Well they sacked Pulis for a similar under-performing season. If every football club did that every closed season there'd be list of managerial vacancies longer than a baboons arm. One of my biggest worries with Hughes is that he couldn't sign a decent striker to save his fuckin life. Still relying on a 36 year old (TP signing) to get us the goals. Thats down to service not the strikers, he's signed a few that look decent but get sod all to work with so revert back to lump it to the back post.

So now you turn on the Chairman?
Call yourselves supporters?

Coates is one of the best chairmen in football.
Is he perfect? Of course not. But what owner is?

I'd trust Coates. Seems a nice bloke, now those smizer kids of his might be something else. The front office has delivered at times but there is a level of quality concerning the pizza boys, we just need an upgrade in that department for me to take us into next level dealings. Far to many times things just don't materialize or progress and it's infuriating.

Geat thread!!! Definitely, we'd be much better off with Smurthwaite, or maybe the blokes from Blackpool or Portsmouth. (Part of me wants us to go down, so some of these idiots would fuck off, and make it easy to get tickets again when I come home)

Yeah, massive problem...The sooner Smurph finds a buyer for PVFC and pumps his Billions into SCFC the better...FFS

This is not a criticism of PC but my belief is that Stoke City is a media springboard for Bet365 with all the free global advertising he gets. In my opinion he is only interested in PL status and this explains why he will not bankroll players that would take us to the next level. This season has shown that buying in top level players can make a massive difference as Everton have proven with Bolasie, Schniederling and Lukaku. The 15 point gap between Everton in 7th and Southampton in 8th tends to prove my point.

The players he's hanging onto are the players that have kept us up
The majority of Hughes signings do not have that DNA sadly.
Coates won't throw those players away to gamble on youth
He has more about him than a gambler .....I have faith in his ability even tho I'm not a fan of him or Hughes

He's probably been our best ever owner. However, He also doesn't seem to trust Hughes anymore but is afraid to get rid of him and that is why he doesn't plan on giving him a bigger budget. IMO if he doesn't 100 percent trust Hughes, SACK HIM. No doubt you started this thread to post this drivel, give me some shred of evidence of this???, have you been sniffing and had a bad dream, dear.

Well if that's the case then getting relegated wouldn't do their billboard much good. They need to invest to keep us in the Prem for their Bet365 media exposure.

They already sponsor pretty much every major televised event on sky and by , so the money pumped into us is pretty much overkill and a waste if that's the only reason a local billionaire fan is investing in a club he's supported all his life. After reading this thread I've realised he's a fuckin money grabbing bastard, Coates out should be reinstigated over the summer and I demand a foreign owner with less money to put us in toxic debt. 🤦🏻♂️ I despair at some people

We don't know if he has tightened the reigns do we?
And it's not like Hughes has form for handing contracts to old players Willy nilly.......
Something isn't right clearly at the club and it's felt like this for a couple of years.
I think Hughes is a massive problem.
I think Scholes is a potentially bigger one.
I can't make out if Coates is yet. September will be the time to judge that.

Debt free so that if we are relegated we can bounce back up again. Improved ground is a wise investment. This is transition year( next three Windows ). Self sufficiency with money available to keep us mid table. Trying to keep the wage bill down when players require pay rises. Coates looks on the bright side of life. We are a win away from 8th place. The best team we've ever had. We're 50 odd million in debt (all owed to the Coates' mind). And the club don't own the ground.

He bought the club back and got us to the Prem on a decision I disageed with (Pulis). I disagree with retaining Hughes and can't see any positive direction with regard to the squad. So he's probably right and I'm probably wrong again. If he isn't he'll only have himself to blame and we'll be back in the Championship with a better ground and parachute payments. Its his call.

I'd never even in the slightest considered him a problem in the past. I do find it very concerning the contracts that are being handed out though. We're crying out for dramatic changes. We're crying out for an injection of youth. All we're doing is giving new contracts out to players in the twilight of their careers. I can't believe this is entirely Hughes' strategy. I'd dearly love to know what the 'strategy' is. IF there is one. Or.....is this the start of a slow withdrawal by Mr C/Bet365...?

Yes but surely all the companies have one thing in common, they are all ultimately owned and controlled by the Coates family unless Uncle Peter, in his kindness, has made all ST holders share holders in the ground too?

If he's a problem, I'm sure he's the type many clubs wish they had.
He put in the cash to bring us to the top flight and has backed his managers well enough, he has kept season ticket prices for fans low, he us encouraging youth development and is now getting the stadium expanded.
We are exceptionally lucky.

That's like asking why Pulis finished 11th in his first season in the Prem with a Championship squad, yet Hughes finished two places lower this season with what Coates described as "our best ever squad"? As for Coates, I think Hughes's performance last season has left him with a dilemma.
