Of course the Oatcake is a representative sample of Stoke City's support it has enough registered users to be a very indicative sample of our overall supporter base. The number of registered users is 100% irrelevant if only about 1% of that total actually post! You could probably name all of the regular posters on here off the top of your head, and it's probably less than 1% of the total number of registered users.....so, no it isn't necessarily representative at all as you have no clue what the view of the other 17,000 registered members are as they don't fucking post. Sincerely hope your day job doesn't involve any kind of statistical analysis mate. the message board is currently awash with vehement Hughes out posts (no problem with that, opinions e.t.c.) If that strength of feeling was replicated with the regular match going support you would have had Hughes out chants, banners & protests e.t.c. by now. I'm sure there is a lot of grumbling & disquiet amongst our support however I think it's clear the Hughes out bandewagon i reality is way behind where the message board is at. That's not to say it won't get there, I'm confident if we have another bad start next season the crowd would 'turn'. However if we don't have a bad start then he's safe till xmas at least

beware of what you wish for. thankfully the oatcake is not representative of stoke city. he has a good relationship with peter coates and that is all what matters. Of course the Oatcake is a representative sample of Stoke City's support it has enough registered users to be a very indicative sample of our overall supporter base. Not sure it's representative. I don't know what the total number of board members is as a proportion of total Stoke fans or whether it's a representative sample. However what can be suggested is that the message board is a good example of the 80 / 20 rule (The Pareto Effect). In other words, generally speaking, 80% of posts will come from 20% of the members. Indeed, in some case there are members with a disproportionately high number of posts, one member can even lay claim to an astonishing 91k posts With some of the more controversial threads, i.e. should Mark Hughes be sacked, a similar effect will be found, 80% of the posts on that thread will come from 20% of the posters involved in the thread. Also the posters with the more strident views will more likely be the pro-active posters on the thread. Those with a more reasoned view will tend to be less active because basically they can't be bothered to argue against illogical opinions, often simply based on unsubstantiated rumours, suppositions and hysterical ramblings. A good example being the item on this thread about Hughes going to China

I'm just praying for the moment he mentions his 100 page dossier on how he wants to expand the club next season.

I have no doubt that most are no longer 100% convinced (myself included. I certainly wouldn't be upset if we made a change to be honest), but the idea that if a few posters on here (and it's the same ones everytime on every thread...a new one of which seems to be started every day now with a slightly different title) simply copy and paste their comments over and over again then that equates to being a general representation of the entire fanbase's feelings is utter garbage. There's about a dozen of them that are very passionate (maybe 20 at most) on here about their belief that he HAS to go but is seems like more because they just go onto every single thread discussing itand just say the same things they already have on umpteen other threads. Even if there were 50 screaming for him to go on here, that's less than 0.3% of the total number of registered posters on here, let alone the number of Stoke fans in general who never even look at this board...but apparently that's enough to deem it a general representation Gotta love 'em!

Mark Hughes never stood a chance mate ...infact whoever took over never stood a chance I can't believe we are now starting threads on hunches they have and not fact or newspaper rumours ....infact the OP stated its posted on another thread so why not answer that instead of all this It's bollocks Come on Wez you're better than that post mate😮"Never stood a chance" He's been here 4 seasons and for 2 and half of them he's done an excellent job but the last 18 months have been dreadful and as bad as anything your mate served up in his last season. Its time for change mate in many folks opinion,we need a spark(no pun) from somewhere and the lift a new manager can give the players/crowd next season. The match day experience has died on its arse mate of late imo and it won't come back until something drastic changes. Mate if they asked me if he should be sacked I'd say no , if they sacked him I wouldn't be upset....that's where I'm at I'm not disputing anything you say I'm just on about a certain number of posters on here who would never accept anybody who took over from HIM...it just happened to be Mark Hughes It will only settle down once we have another manager But I'll repeat again we have a thread based on a hunch and nothing else when the same thing was in another thread It's all about the hits

Our form from the beginning of January to the match on 2nd April 2016 was completely in line points wise with the total for the two previous seasons. We then had a dreadful month when we were without Butland and Johnson (who up to that point had been excellent) and with Shawcross looking particularly ropey. That's when the rot set in, 13 months ago. I'm not going to change your opinion on wanting him out, but you're a decent enough poster not to regurgitate false stats.

It's not about changing my mind by the way it's the fact I no longer trust him with decent money that's all.For me if Coates is to show his transfer muscle again I'd rather he give it another manager.

I didn't enjoy the back end of last season anymore than anyone else. Pointless denying what everyone could see. And if the style of football is what's bugging people then that's fair enough. It's just the 18 month thing which is starting to bug me. 17 months ago we were giving Man City and Man Utd footballing lessons and reaching the semi final of the League Cup. And like I said, the results for the first three months of 2016 were decent overall, then the injuries set in. He's made lots of mistakes since then. But I'm prepared to call it one bad season in four which others obviously think is stretching things. Maybe it is, but his teams have given me some great memories over the first three seasons and for that I think he deserves another crack at it. Unless he's totally thick, he'll realise the mistakes he's made. We're all allowed to make them, and I'm thinking he's probably intelligent enough to put them right. Even as a fan of his though, he now needs to make sure we're ready for the new season. The payback for not having great endings to this season and last is that there are now no excuses for his traditional poor start. He's got to get it right from the off.

Is it just me or the fact that no pre season tour announcement is a bit strange? Add that to no disclosure of season ticket sales and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a change in the offing.

I saw a headline about Toxic on the Sentnull website where he was saying 'my teams would have finished top ten if...' - didn't bother reading it tbh. Like most with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, deep down he's extremely insecure. If MH goes he goes, at least it'll give the hand wringers their wish and we'll get a break from this constant carping. Mark Hughes never stood a chance mate ...infact whoever took over never stood a chance I can't believe we are now starting threads on hunches they have and not fact or newspaper rumours ....infact the OP stated its posted on another thread so why not answer that instead of all this It's bollocks Never stood a chance ? Hughes had a longer honeymoon than any manager i can recall in 47 years of being a Stokie. Simply because of whom he replaced. Not even Waddo had as much grace as Hughes when things started to go wrong.

Hundreds of people regularly post on here out of our fanbase of thousands. Its a much more representative sample than is used to predict the outcome of elections and assess likely impact if product launches for example when a sample of a thousand or two is used to predict the opinion of millions. They've been a bit off recently Trump Brexit but thriughout the last few decades they've been proved to be a pretty accurate guide. I'll say it again the Oatcake is a fairly representative sample of our supporter base provided you stick to one user one opinion.

I think another poster may have mentioned it in another thread. It wouldn't surprise me if he left at end of season by mutual consent. I am not sure all is right behind the scenes at the moment? Yes we are now way to big of a club for the likes of sparky , we should be a top 4 club and bidding for Sanchez, augero etc and attracting managers of the calibre of pep , Jose etc , Hughes out I say you've done a wank job of keeping a champions league wannabe like Stoke in the premier league
