I thought Geoff and Joe were both excellent today, their energy and athleticism provided the dynamics that the heart of our team has been missing all season, Allen is much better suited to his current role than playing as a number 10.
The only thing we were missing today was that little bit of creativity in the centre of the park to create some opportunities offensively.
I can totally see why Hughes went with SJW against Citeh and Chelsea but against Leicester I think I'd be tempted to play Shaqiri as a number 10 behind Berahino.

Agree with a lot of both excellent the challenge is can they create ? were outnumbered when Chelsea changed formation and Hughes should really have put Affelay in there to help when fabregas came on

Joe Allen in particular showed he can compete with top quality opposition. Excellent effort and performance.

I've thought for a while that Joe Allen wasn't the problem in our midfield. He looked quality today, and I hope people who have slagged him off acknowledge this.

Problem is with Bards red card, if Johnson is not fit it'll be Cameron @ RB next week.

Yes it's a complete no brainer to play Diouf there if Johnson isn't fit, it'd be absolute madness to move Geoff out of midfield now.
Thinking about it, I actually wouldn't be against playing Diouf there if Johnson is fit ...

Yes his passing is definitely his achilles heel, it can be so frustrating to watch at times but all things being equal, he's the best we've currently got to play there at the moment.
Allen, Cameron and a number 10 until the end of the season I think should work.
We really need to be providing Berahino with some service, or else the pressure will start to mount on him also.

Cameron broke up play OK but his control and passing were lamentable. A mobile defensive midfielder should be our priority this Summer.

I agree with the OP, two up front doesn't quite offer what we need going forward. Shaq in behind has to be worth a try.

They both have pace and break up play - the downside is that neither of them are very good at passing the ball to a Stoke player. I think we need to play two up front to get the best out of Berahino, so it's a bit of a conundrum as to how to get some creativity into the midfield. Having said that, that other fan's favourite Eric NEVER passes it to a Stoke player, so perhaps we go back to 3-5-2 and drop Mad Eric.

Cameron defensivley was ace but his passing really lets him and us down. Wow. We couldn't keep the ball today and created fuck all. That falls on the midfield. They worked bloody hard but the passing in there let us down as a force to actually do anything and not just spoil the game.

Game was crying out for Afellay at 10 today instead of SJW
Berahino was good first poor second, and Arnie struggles for whatever reason on the right so dont get why they dont keep switching wings
Back 4 and GC/Joe were great though bar Eriks complete 2 minute meltdown that cost the game.

As I said ... as a pair until the end of the season and for the time being, why I would try Shaqiri in front of them to provide some guile.
