If we offered the job to Ranieri he'd snap our hands off mate.
Would you have him? No

i like Cameron, but I think the opposition had more to do with the result. Don't think Cameron would have made a difference against Tottenham. Cameron for Adam and I don't think we'd have lost 4-0. We'd have lost, just not by that margin in my opinion.... Sure, having another defensive midfielder would have probably made things a little tougher for them, but the gulf in quality between those two sides is a much bigger factor than cam's influence.

For me it's not about has he taken us as far as he can but rather are we as far as we can go.
Just how high up the table is it possible for us to get to? I'd suggest that 9th every season seems to be our limit.
You could offer the job to Manci and he may connect with the foreign players a bit better, however I doubt he would be able to push us to a new level.
Right now I'd be happy if we could stop faffing about early in the season, make 40 points by March and have a good cup run every season. But we are Stoke City and we have to do things the hard way, it's like we need pressure to perform.
Oh one more \thing. Can we please stop being a dogs home for every failed, injury prone player that needs to make a buck in the prem.

I don't think he has done enough to warrant the sack. He has come as far as he can with us but I can't see a better option than Hughes right now. His signings have been pretty astute and worth their money as a whole. We're not in a bad position. I can't see him getting the push.

I somehow feel there may be a little writing beginning to appear on the wall. First, Mr C lets rip on the Spurs debcale. Not something he seems prone to do but I still think he has every right to pass comment. Secondly, I read some comments made by MH in one of the papers last week where he seemed to insinuate that unlike Everton for example , we were never going to really splash the cash to 'push on' any further. Strikes me that this is a kind of poor retaliation excuse as we are currently experiencing a hard to keep fit £12 million signing and an £18 mill potential flop.Plus waving goodbye to Joselu, Wolly and Bojjers. Not sure I would be giving him £25 mill a pop willynilly Anyway, I think that the Coates family maybe have more ambition than he's giving them credit for but are possibly having doubts that he is the guy to be given financial backing to go the next step. We are not in the league of the Chelsea/Man Utd/ Man City spending power but I'm guessing that we could have the potential to go a bit further. I'm a little indifferent to him myself and I guess always have been. No body can deny that it's pretty reasonable to have another top ten finish (should we do so)if we dont I definitely think there will be a change. AS much as I thanked TP for what he'd achieved there was the inevitability of his departure.I cant help feeling whether it's the Board's or his own choice there could be a change around the corner and it would not surprise me to see a foreign manager as British decent ones are thin on the ground. I believe little 'ole Stoke may have a little more pulling power now that some, including Mark give us credit for. U forgot we are not in the league of spending with Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, so thats 6 teams who will move more away from the 7th team down. Maybe Hughes will decide to leave Stoke, as there are too many moaning fuckers, who know nothing about football, or the football managers players who think they are pros at the real game, we also have the kiddies who havent a clue, then benj buscuit and that other nutter, who i try to forget at every opportunorty.Begins with B too.

I would be all for replacing Hughes PROVIDED that the new manager produces better results. That would mean AT LEAST 8th place finishes for at least three years and hopefully better than that. Cup runs also required. Only a moron would expect something like that to happen. I must be moron then, or you must. Not sure.......... I hope he isn't. Hughes still here that is. PTurner is speaking the truth, what do you morons want, finish 7th or 8th, win a cup, play stunning football, win europa cup, not going to happen. Teams like Stoke will have the odd great win, man u, man c and chelsea at home, draw at man u and chelsea, the odd win at man city, does anyway think we can do better than this.

Mark Hughes isn't going to leave Stoke because some internet geeks on a football forum or a handful of callers on BBC local radio don't rate him, he quite frankly couldn't give a toss what they think.
Mark Hughes will leave Stoke City when the Coates family relieve him of his duties or when Mark Hughes has a better offer from somebody else.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks otherwise should watch his pre-match press conference for the Man City game, he looks about as far from a man who feels any pressure from 'upstairs' as it is humanly possible to be.

Fat Sam and Moyes could be available at the end of the season. I'd stick with Hughes - he just needs to pay more attention to the Oatcake experts when it comes to the starting line-up and substitutions. He could also do well by learning how to use Google before he signs players like Imbula. Just about summed up the haters. Before any hater spouted off, look at the history with Hughes and Stoke, then look at the last manager and see the overall progress. Now haters, pray tell how we will get to 6th or 7th, or is 8th progress.

Exactly. My guess is that Hughes performance bonus will either be paid on 50 points or a top half finish, you'd be sacking a man to whom you have just paid out a performance bonus ! It can't happen, not in a sane world anyway, although I appreciate sanity is at a premium in the Premier League! Think footballs a bit like banking you get a bonus for winning a bonus for losing and an even bigger pay off for being completely wank and getting sacked. The last bit is more like the NHS and councils.

Spot on. It would knacker the tittle tattle if folk recognised all the positives rather than attempting to winkle out stuff for the Hughes Out campaign. We scored from a corner and easily dispatched a visiting team below us. etc. As you say we don't really matter.

We should start looking now if we fail to progress. Things have gone badly wrong in the transfer market and Hughes has made some huge signing that haven't come off. If we do change managers history tells us that Italian managers adapt better to the PL than any other. Ranieri Ancelotti Mancini have won the PL and Conte looks like he'll win it with Chelsea Di Matteo won the Champions league too. Ranieri is available, but I guess he may retire Massimo Oddo maybe worth a look

We started very, very poorly - 2 points from a possible 18 and we have conceded 4 goals this season more times than I care to think about. We were terrible against Wolves (who are looking at relegation). These are some of the things we can improve on next season, and challenge for Europe. I am not interested in the status quo.

Fuck it Hughes is brilliant. Scary isn't it. I think it shows `how limited peoples horizons are. If a coach/manager has already managed in the Premier League and been standout we're extremely unlikely to be able to get them. So then they move on to the ones who've been adequate for periods at some Premier League club or other which means you're never going to get your hands on the next Mourinho, Pochettino who has never managed in the Premier League but has a very solid CV and his career is on an upward curve. Ideally you want someone who has shown tangible success (not necessarily trophies) at more than one club and shown ability to step up in class and make their methods work. For me that candidate is Lucien Favre, I'm not say he's definitely attainable but we should try. If we wait for him or his type to come and prove themselves in the Premier League they will no longer be realistically attainable so we'll always be settling for someone else's cast offs. Mark Hughes is a good manager despite the fact he's driving me round the bend at the moment, he definitely doesn't deserve the sack but football is a harsh cut throat environment, theres no room for loyalty or sentiment thats all in the past he's been well rewarded for his work and I don't expect he'll be signing on any time soon.

Get real - this is probably as good as its going to get for a club of Stoke's size. And if you're not enjoying this you really need to start supporting another club. OK we might edge into 7th or 8th - but top six? Look at what we're up against - we don't have the money or pulling power to compete at that level on a consistent basis. Its not fair - but that's what it is. We're lucky to have Mark Hughes and we're lucky to be a mid table Premier league club. If you don't get that you need a reality check. Enjoy it while its there - if the last 154 years are anything to go by these really are the good times. We are lucky to have Mark Hughes? Why are we lucky? Because he continues to deliver possibly the highest position in one of the toughest leagues in the world that a club of Stoke's size is likely to achieve on a regular basis. Is that really so hard to understand? We really are in danger of turning into Arsenal fans.

Must be a sign of how far we have come if we are seriously thinking of getting rid of a manager who gets us to 9th. Few years ago anyone who promised promotion out of league 1 was the Mesiah. Exactly. We didn't have £18m players kicking their heels on the bench.

With Hughes we know his strengths and his weaknesses. If I was Coates I would look to address these to improve us with Hughes at the helm
Good -
Able to attract stars to the club He is tactically flexible which means he can change things drastically mid-season if we are on a slump Good man-manager who the players enjoy playing for Can get us playing attractive football at time We try to win EVERY game home or away
Bad -
Low fitness levels Shitty start to every season Our play can become slow and turgid Over-reliance on older players We can get regular 4 goal dickings due to being too open
For me most of the weaknesses can be fixed by bringing in a new defensive & fitness coach. Get the team fitter and pressing higher up the pitch and we can become more like Liverpool or Spurs instead of the slow build up we have to watch.
Tell Hughes to take a long summer holiday and take the squad up and down some mountains in pre-season so they are raring to go. We know our players can play football and we have oodles of talent in the squad. Sort the fitness and work-rate (which is clearly Hughes weakpoint) and we will see a different team.
Im sure Hughes wouldnt like to have a coach brought in against his wishes but he must be self-aware enough to realise this needs addressing

Hughes will definitely be here next season, even if performances don't improve for the rest of the season. In fact I would say, if performance do improve and we get another 9th place or better, there is a strong possibility that Hughes could get a new contact (extension) to secure his services from any predators. I notice (if I'm not mistaken) that there are no serious proposals from anyone above on who should replace him. There have been a few nonsensical posts on other threads, such a Ranieri, or Benitez, or Mancini, none of whom would go anywhere near a small club like Stoke. We are not a small club, we're averaged sized for this level. Watford and Bournemouth are small, once the corner's filled in we'll be getting over 30,000 in. That isn't small.

I am sure he will be here next season and I hope so. It will be a very important transfer window and he needs a stellar one after a few poor windows where the issues weren't addressed. It would be interesting to know what Hughes's ambitions are as a manager. He still has quite a few years ahead of him if he wants it. Top 6 club is unlikely so of the rest maybe Stoke isn't a bad option to try and win something and get into Europe. Managing abroad seems to be out of vogue for British managers at the moment so that's unlikely. I am sure he is itching to have a crack at Europe but I am guessing at what other personal goals he has. Maybe the Jeremy Paxman of footie....Nigel Johnson could tease such revelations out of him

Only an idiot is unable to see how the quality of our squad has improved since Pulis was shown the door. Yes Hughes has the Imbula signing haunting him and the fact that we did not finish as high as we perhaps could have but all in all the club is growing. I am particularly pleased that at last we have a handful of young players pushing for the first team. The future of our club is in safe hands and Mark Hughes will be manager so I personally wish you negative idiots would go back under the carpet.

It is very clear from what has happened over the past two seasons that the setup at Stoke needs a shakeup. Mark Hughes does not deserve the sack but to carry on unchanged would be to expect a third season like the last two. The need for a reorganisation is self evident. I would suggest moving Hughes to a position of Director of Football. He could take overall charge of searching for new talent and build the profile of the club worldwide. This is clearly lacking at present, so Cartwright would have to go. Also there is a problem at Under 23 level with poor results and lack of ambition, so Glyn Hodges would need to be replaced possibly by Bowen. A new younger team manager would be needed for the first team squad and I would suggest Gary Rowett as the best candidate available at the moment. The defence needs improving as do fitness levels so a younger energetic team manager would need to concentrate on the squad and also have an imput into additions and replacements. This reorganisation would have the benefit that in the event of immergency, Mark Hughes would still be available to step in if required.
