Top half finishes = yes.
Punching above our weight still.

He can be frustrating but 1 - we don't go to training. 2 - we don't know how much input he has on transfers. 3 - he's had a lot of bad luck with injuries. 4 - we don't know the players personally or what issues they have. But one things for sure and that is that he's got us 3 x 9th place finishes and has on the whole done well. What I would say though is he needs to be told what we need and that there will not be funds freed up for any more no. 10s or box to box midfielders. So for me he needs to stay but be told things need to change. Agreed. We need to be more focused and clear on what we are trying to achieve and then go out and get those players. I am sure we thought we had them with Imbula, Bojan, Shaq etc but clearly we don't...in the current system. I don't think we will make 50pts this season and will finish outside the top ten but that is not a reason to get rid. One season in four that is worse than the other three is ok in my books. Have a frank discussion post season and let Hughes get on with meeting owners expectations.

Sorry to be thick but was that it reply to a specific question on the matter? Otherwise I'm not sure why he would feel the need to comment at all. But equally I'm not sure anyone would dare ask after he has just presided over the first 3 consecutive top half finishes in our long history and maybe heading for a 4th, it would just sound like a preposterous question Even if you don't buy that argument Peter Coates is coming up to 80 next birthday, I don't think he would take well to some Pedro banging on at him in Spanglish, I suspect Welsh is about as exotic as Mr. Coates is willing to get Not sure tbh mate,I just looked at the twitter feed From 15 minutes on. Question is about what his aspirations are.....

Hughes will definitely be here next season, even if performances don't improve for the rest of the season.
In fact I would say, if performance do improve and we get another 9th place or better, there is a strong possibility that Hughes could get a new contact (extension) to secure his services from any predators.
I notice (if I'm not mistaken) that there are no serious proposals from anyone above on who should replace him. There have been a few nonsensical posts on other threads, such a Ranieri, or Benitez, or Mancini, none of whom would go anywhere near a small club like Stoke.

As long as Stoke finish top half every season, Hughes won't being going anywhere. Unless he gets a better offer from a bigger club.😉
A few on here will be spitting feathers , but you could count them on two hands. So what they think is irrelevant. Stoke are lucky to have him ,and Sir Peter isn't a risk taker.. Anyway my greyhound is called Sparky so I would be well pissed off if he did get sacked...😀

I would be all for replacing Hughes PROVIDED that the new manager produces better results. That would mean AT LEAST 8th place finishes for at least three years and hopefully better than that. Cup runs also required. Only a moron would expect something like that to happen. I must be moron then, or you must. Not sure.......... I hope he isn't. Hughes still here that is.

Must be a sign of how far we have come if we are seriously thinking of getting rid of a manager who gets us to 9th. Few years ago anyone who promised promotion out of league 1 was the Mesiah.

Like FM says above, it would take a remarkable turn of events to see Hughes go. It would virtually re-write the rules on what a sacking offence is and the pressure on the new bloke would be virtually unbearable. Even if we get over 50 points this season, it would be very hard to argue we were progressing and the regularity of our four goal spuddings is absolutely maddening but it’s about as far away from a sacking offence as its possible to get. Exactly. My guess is that Hughes performance bonus will either be paid on 50 points or a top half finish, you'd be sacking a man to whom you have just paid out a performance bonus ! It can't happen, not in a sane world anyway, although I appreciate sanity is at a premium in the Premier League!

I'm all for change if the right bloke comes in. If not I'm happy for him to carry on, mainly because it pisses off the moaning know it alls on here. I think I might be one of the moaning know it alls. I think we could maybe attract better and am pissed off with the way he's got us playing. My choice would be Lucien Favre and there could be a slack handful of other European coaches that I would find acceptable but it would be a very select group of names and if we couldn't get them I'd rather keep Hughes so I'll not be the least bit pissed off if he stays. In fact there are the ingredients there for him to get me back onside if he changes tack and uses them.

At a push he might go for a foreign coach with Premier League experience but his preference will be British with Premier League experience. I think Coates list would be very short indeed. Pardew,Dyche maybe. Erm...that might be it.

When do we want to progress from our level? It won't happen with Hughes. Get real - this is probably as good as its going to get for a club of Stoke's size. And if you're not enjoying this you really need to start supporting another club. OK we might edge into 7th or 8th - but top six? Look at what we're up against - we don't have the money or pulling power to compete at that level on a consistent basis. Its not fair - but that's what it is. We're lucky to have Mark Hughes and we're lucky to be a mid table Premier league club. If you don't get that you need a reality check. Enjoy it while its there - if the last 154 years are anything to go by these really are the good times.

There's the reality of age etc. May be a bit of the romantic but I could envisage Hughes and Coates dancing off into the sunset with a bit of Glory under their belt, Sir Peter hands the reigns for decisions re the manager to the next generation, Hughes goes off to pastures new. {with Silverware, a European Campaign, managing successfully within the self sustaining model, integration of youth, not abandoning a project and Stoke's biggest Premiership attendances added to his cv. etc} There'll be tentative succession planning in place already no doubt. I think he's added better basics to the footballing revolution they're implementing. As Rhianna would say 'Stay'.

I wouldn't blame LMH if he walked away at the end of the season and he moved on to another club.It would serve us right and it would leave us right in the shit, we could be amongst the relegation candidates next season.Who do all these idiots think would come in and keep us in the top ten let alone move us higher. We really have got some total airheads that call themselves supporters. When you've followed Stoke as long as I have you really appreciate where we are now. When you've watched us get stuffed at Grimsby,Wigan,Blyth Spartans and other godforsaken holes, to watch us now competing with the best players on the planet is fabulous to me and I don't want us to do anything to jeopardise it.Mark Hughes is doing an excellent job.

The next level isn't about improvements in league position. It's about 1, 2 or 3 players coming into the side from the academy every couple of seasons. Producing players at that level would reduce the unsustainable recruitment bill and make us more attractive to an owner beyond the Coates era.

I agree; the abuse MH gets on here is sickening, but I expect he will treat it for what it is, if he is aware. Fortunately I not only think Hughes is good for us, I think Stoke and the Coates are good for Hughes. The saving grace for me, is if MH was tempted away, we have an excellent owner who would do a good job in terms of getting a replacement.
