There are so many Stoke fans on this forum who are doing their very best to create the myth that Hughes is close to going. They are deluded! Mark Hughes was the correct choice to take the hot seat at Stoke when Pulis went. He has undoubtably moved this club further forward. We have a stronger squad with talented players. We are able to compete on the field with the best teams. Over the last three seasons we have finished in the top ten in the Premiership. Mark Hughes is well respected by many other clubs and football pundits in Europe. He has achieved this in spite of major injury set backs. Today we live in a football society where sack the manager is many peoples answer to a team having a poor run of results where fans give no thought at all to who would come in. Stability under Hughes is by far the best choice and Coates will know this and has said it many times. I do not feel for one minute that Coates has contemplated sacking Hughes. 2017 1st January is the ideal time to resolve to stop all this negativity about Hughes and look forward seeing a great second half to the season especially as we have Butland, Cameron, Affelay, Ireland returning and an opportunity to strengthen further in the transfer window. Happy New Year!

I'm a massive Hughes fan, and he's nowhere near sacking territory (we'd be the laughing stock of the league, that's for sure)
But there's got to be cause for concern. Arguably Arnie aside, there are question marks all over the team and we've got one of the worst defensive records in the country over the last 12 months. At the moment, he seems to be making it up as he goes along.

Think there's some valid questions being asked, obviously don't think Hughes should be sacked at all but transfers/tactics should be questioned considering how 2016 went
It is a discussion board, imagine how shit it would be if it was all rainbows and unicorns on here

We're no longer the small fish in a big pond, we've got a really talented squad and a filthy rich board, add the that the Premier League riches and people are rightly questioning the direction we're currently going in.

The only fans that are deluded imo are the ones that can't see what's been going on in the calendar year.Wake up and smell the coffee because at this moment in time we have stagnated and we all know what happens when clubs do this.We need a major overhaul this month otherwise it's going to be a long 5 months

Major injury set backs - few injuries are bad bit again we have a squad to deal with them 3. Butland might not be back before the season finishes

What alovely 'vanilla' thread full of delicous nice feelings and sentiment
Meanwhile, struggling in the lower half of the table - there is a reality to contend with :-
We are presently :-
a) - right now - up shit creek in terms of goalkeepers ( 1 crocked - 2 beyond use - one yet to sign)
b) our most expensive signing at times, looks like a clueless, dis-interested, moribund traffic cone
c) our fullbacks are old and of very doubtful reliability
d ) Our captain - our legend - our leader, is not having a good season - with no real competition for his place
e) We seem to have a glut of very similar players types competing for single roles and yawning gaps
for other positions on the field
f) Younger players are quite predictably (and visibly) getting more and more pissed off at the lack of opportunities whilst older players coming to an end of their noble careers, are routinely selected before they are
g) We look a soft team - easy to play against
h) at times we cant defend our own dinner
j) and yet our manager thinks we can go ahead and defend leads
k) At times - becoming more common even, team selection, tactics and substitions are profilgate, wasteful
and border on stupidity **
( ** latest example of above Arnie / Sobhi farce )
In short - and especially, given the outlay - we are seriously under performing and look worryingly weak and brittle
ALL THE ABOVE IS REALITY
Im not looking for Hughes to be sacked
but hes employed full time to see to all this stuff
and seemingly, fails to recognise what we can all see .
So, some pretty strong questioning and criticism is fully deserved right now
and lastly BONY ---WTF is that all about ????????????????????????????????/

What's the point in a multi million pound academy with some clear talent when we revert to the same old players. Youth may lack experience but they are usually quicker and keen to impress. We do not have a stronger squad which is why we field a side of largely Pulis acquired thirtysomethings on a weekly basis. Transfers hsve been kargely hit and miss - with some expdnsive misses. Hughes won't go anywhere before the summer -we're not thstt type of club - but having just hit the lowest points total at tge half way mark of any season in the Prem let's just hope we're not recruiting a manager for next seasons Championship csmpsign

Lose on Tuesday and go out of the Cup and he's in trouble. The crowd will turn.
Not saying it's right but that's how I see it. You can go on all day about Coates and how he stands by the manager but if the crowd turn then it's hard for the club not to take any action.

I'm more positive this week than after the Liverpool game. I know we conceded another 4 but I felt there was a good reaction from the players yesterday that we can take into Tuesday's game. Yesterday's performance reminded me a bit of the WBA game earlier in the season when we were on a poor run. Despite not beating Albion the performance was good and we went on a decent run after, hopefully the same will happen again starting tomorrow.

I'm a massive Hughes fan, and he's nowhere near sacking territory (we'd be the laughing stock of the league, that's for sure) But there's got to be cause for concern. Arguably Arnie aside, there are question marks all over the team and we've got one of the worst defensive records in the country over the last 12 months. At the moment, he seems to be making it up as he goes along. Hughes doesn't know his arse from his elbow when it comes to centre forwards. He spent 24 years pursuing Diouf. He finally got his man and then stuck him out on the flank, gave him fleeting appearances through the middle before finally deciding he was a right wing back. He then spent 5 million on Joselu and then decided he didn't actually rate him that much. When he finally was given a few games, he started to show he might have something about him and he then got potted off. Next up was Bony. A run of games through the the middle before being expelled to the wilderness. In the midst of all that he toyed around with a false nine for a few games and then quickly dropped that too. 3 and a half years down the line and tens of millions being made available to him and his preferred choices are now Walters and Crouch. Progress.

What alovely 'vanilla' thread full of delicous nice feelings and sentiment Meanwhile, struggling in the lower half of the table - there is a reality to contend with :- We are presently :- a) - right now - up shit creek in terms of goalkeepers ( 1 crocked - 2 beyond use - one yet to sign) b) our most expensive signing at times, looks like a clueless, dis-interested, moribund traffic cone c) our fullbacks are old and of very doubtful reliability d ) Our captain - our legend - our leader, is not having a good season - with no real competition for his place e) We seem to have a glut of very similar players types competing for single roles and yawning gaps for other positions on the field f) Younger players are quite predictably (and visibly) getting more and more pissed off at the lack of opportunities whilst older players coming to an end of their noble careers, are routinely selected before they are g) We look a soft team - easy to play against h) at times we cant defend our own dinner j) and yet our manager thinks we can go ahead and defend leads k) At times - becoming more common even, team selection, tactics and substitions are profilgate, wasteful and border on stupidity ** ( ** latest example of above Arnie / Sobhi farce ) In short - and especially, given the outlay - we are seriously under performing and look worryingly weak and brittle ALL THE ABOVE IS REALITY
Im not looking for Hughes to be sacked but hes employed full time to see to all this stuff and seemingly, fails to recognise what we can all see . So, some pretty strong questioning and criticism is fully deserved right now and lastly BONY ---WTF is that all about ????????????????????????????????/ Pieters isn't old and I think both he and Johnson and even Bardsley are reliable,Derby say Grant is signing. There are not huge problems, we are in no danger of relegation (and haven't been since the first season under TP in my view). Not a vintage season so far that's for sure. I think we have got used to beating big teams at home and we haven't had that this season. FA Cup is more important this year than previous seasons, need to breed some positivity.Wolvrs is a must win game and they are dreadful.
