70 goals shipped in the last calender year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I did not know that)
and some on here think its deluded to criticise ????
There's only one place we'll end up if that continues in 2017
and its NOT the premier league

I think we are going to have a magnificent second half to the season that sets us up for a record 2017-2018 campaign. Les will get the lads kicking on in the New Year like he always does and with a few wins on the bounce the same folks calling for his head now will be lauding him as the greatest thing since Donald Trump!

I hope you are right mailman
its not impossible
but given what we've seen over the last 12 months
you have to admit - its unlikely

I can't believe there are some on this board who can so readily and easily forgive/forget the recent history of four and five goal trouserings, the shoddy defensive performances, the dodgy recruitment decisions, the questionable tactics, the unfathomable substitutions, the almost complete lack of in-game management and making players play out of position or just not playing them at all when it's obvious they could improve the starting 11!
Each to his own though.
Hughes has lost my confidence at the moment and has a lot to do to win it back.

What alovely 'vanilla' thread full of delicous nice feelings and sentiment Meanwhile, struggling in the lower half of the table - there is a reality to contend with :- We are presently :- a) - right now - up shit creek in terms of goalkeepers ( 1 crocked - 2 beyond use - one yet to sign)Β b) our most expensive signing at times, looks like a clueless, dis-interested, moribund traffic cone c) our fullbacks are old and of very doubtful reliability d ) Our captain - our legend - our leader, is not having a good season - with no real Β competition for his place e) We seem to have a glut of very similar players types competing for single roles and yawning gaps for other positions on the field f) Younger players are quite predictably (and visibly) getting more and more pissed off at the lack of opportunities whilst older players coming to an end of their noble careers, are routinely selected before they are g) We look a soft team - easy to play against h) at times we cant defend our own dinner j) and yet our manager thinks we can go ahead and defend leads k) At times - becoming more common even, team selection, tactics and substitions are profilgate, wasteful and border on stupidity ** ( ** latest example of above Arnie / Sobhi farce ) In short - and especially, given the outlay - we are seriously under performing and look worryingly weak and brittleΒ ALL THE ABOVE IS REALITY
Im not looking for Hughes to be sacked but hes employed full time to see to all this stuff and seemingly, fails to recognise what we can all see .Β So, some pretty strong questioning and criticism is fully deserved right now and lastly BONY ---WTF is that all about ????????????????????????????????/Β Wow. We must be dead and buried at the bottom of the league. Looks like the worst mess we could possibly be in. Are the pies crap too?

Having just run through the latest threads, as usual Stoke fans (posters on Oatcake that is) are full of negativity. Last night before the match posters were attacking our "older" players, after the match they are attacking some of our "younger" (<30) players. So I thought I would resurrect this thread for us to have a bash at each other!
Are all the critics of our 2016 performance, now praising the fact that, after a very difficult Christmas programme, we have not yet lost in 2017 and only conceded 3 goals in 4 matches?
Are the people who predicted we would be in a relegation fight, when we are sitting in 9th place with lots of games to play against teams below us in the table, now predicting another top half finish?
Are those fans, who claim the club don't spend money on players, now happy that the club has again been one of the highest spending clubs in the world outside of the giant clubs?
Well I guess not, because they are not really happy unless they are having a good moan about someone else's performance. The list of things people seem to find to complain about seems endless. Latest subject is let's have a bash at Joe Allen.
I am satisfied with Stoke City's performance again this season. I know it could have been much better, but then what couldn't? I suspect some of the critics are not really true fans and want the club to fail, so they can say to themselves "there you are I told you so, I was right all along". I'm the opposite. It was a shame about the cup competitions but why get bitter and twisted about it? I always look to the optimistic side, life's too short to be miserable.

Read some of the posts and was searching for the number of the Samaritans and came across the Premier League table. We haven't been relegated we are sitting at 9th, feeling much better.

It wouldn't do any harm if we won more than the occasional game of football though. One win a month on average I believe?

Oh hang on, we're ninth and have consistently reached a level we could only have dreamed of less than a decade ago. Wank!!! Doesn't mean we can't discuss the largely mediocre performances and results over the past 12 months though. Why are we so consistently poor in the 2nd half of games? It would have been nice to finally get a decent scalp such as Everton this season. It feels a lot like Pulis' last season at the moment, it just feels like a bit of a grind.

I notice it's Joe Allen's turn at the moment on here... *****. I don't think that's right it's more aimed at how Hughes has utilised him and the knock on effects than direct slagging the player. Either way, he's in very poor form.

We've all got opinions, whether they differ or not means nothing, i for one wouldn't want to come on here and see us all holding hands singing Kumbaya
Can you imagine how mind numbingly boring it would be if we just sat here blowing smoke up each others arses about how amazing the club is? Doesn't make someone less of a fan if they've got real concerns about certain areas
We've done ok lately but we've still got some issues we need to sort out

Personally I think Hughes is brilliant ....I have confidence in his ability and I'm enjoying the footy ..yes we had a few bad results at the start of the season but with Butters injured I think it threw a bit of a spanner in the plans ....but all credit to Hughes he tried the options...and then bought Lee Grant in and what a find that was !! I'm sure many would have questioned his judgment ...but our manager saw something that others had missed !! As for signing Joe Allen ...another superb signing by Sparky !! I'm right proud Mark Hughes is our manager ...he's professional, he's not frightened to make changes, he certainly handles the players better than TP did...plus we've started to develop into a team which doesn't just hoof the ball up the pitch ...I can't understand the doomongers and doubters...may be if we were at the bottom of the table they'd have a point but we're not ....so come on let's do what we do best, Sing our hearts out and make the Bearpit the hell hole it used to be !! A place the opposition dread coming to play ....
