The BDO Tournaments highest 3 dart average was 98 when there were 24 3 dart averages over 100 at the PDC so not so much a gulf in class as a chasm.

In Glen's emotional post victory interview he said his ambition was always to switch to the PDC but he was now having second thoughts because he appreciated the camaraderie, support and culture of the BDO. I'm pleased he finally won the title, thoroughly deserved, but I think he will probably switch this year. If he does I'd be surprised if he gets very far, the standard is in another stratosphere. For now, congrats to the lad from Middlesbrough. It's easy to belittle the standards in the BDO,but I can't really fault the organization's 'Darts for all mantra.' I've attended several PDC events and was left thinking that with the admission price and all the additional costs, beer ,parking, etc that I could have had a nice weekend away. What with the cost of a decent set of darts now edging up toward £100 in some cases, darts is slowly but irrevocably going the same way as football,no longer in Bobby George's words "a poor man's game..." I see the BDO,despite it's myriad faults,as the last bulwark against this creeping tendency.

You don't have to have the new Unicorn over egged, over priced crap. Get yourself in the car and up to A180 darts in St Helens. Cracking bloke that runs it, will make you a nice brew and let you test any set of darts you want on his board in the shop. I got a set for 18 quid.

Agreed,I had some coaching off Dave at A180 (if I recall,) who runs the St Helens darts academy,he's like the Yoda of darts! Had some very interesting conversations with about darts in general too....he's always resisted bringing the academy under the auspices of the JDC because he feels the costs are punitive to members.....His coaching's a damn sight cheaper than Mardle's sessions for sure!!

That noppert is going to be a world champion one day, 23, mid 90 average is not bad for a young player. In 10 years he could be up there with gerwen. That klassen is starting to improve now too, the standard is unbelievable now and still getting better.
