Great goal but what was great about his performance? We couldn't get the ball to stick up front all game really. He held the ball up well (better than Bony) and was a thorn in their back four. Bony's hold up play is streets ahead of Walters'.

Well he didn't hold the ball up at all. When the ball went to him he mis-controlled it virtually every time. He won 2 headers all game. Great goal, poor otherwise, bar some running. Bony is a better player IMHO.

I admit to laughing when Walters scored his goal. Walters is at his best when he does not have time to think. He just tried to help the ball on towards the goal and fortune was on his side. Fans in the Boothen saw it go way above the height of the bar and then it suddenly dropped into the goal. If anyone tries to tell me that the shot was done with intention then I will say they are wrong! Nevertheless well done John! I hope your luck continues!

Despite the fact he's never done it before and will never do it again! And the look on his face during the celebrations was one of 'how the fuck did that happen'. Definitely meant it tho', 100 percent...

Simply put, Walters is a good professional player and as good a squad player as you are likely to get. We owe Walters loyalty, we owe Bony nothing!

I've watched the goal dozens of times and I really don't think he meant it.
The look on his face and his celebration suggested he was almost embarrassed.
I agree that he takes more touches than a pervert priest but overall I thought he played well last week and yesterday.
Nonetheless, well done JW the end result was a thing of beauty

Well for the money we paid for arnie , and when he's consistent he is a superb player , and when he has scored 40 prem goals for Stoke then he will be spoken in the terms of legend . Arnie is technically superb and unplayable on his day , we just don't see enough of those days but here's hoping

Ive just read every post and on the whole its a disgraceful response to SJW's performance. He took his goal well IMHO and his defencive duties were performed to a tee, their threat in the second half came from the right flank and he was often left alone to undertake these defensive duties. No pleasing some folk, leave the bloke alone and give him some praise FFS.

It amazes me how much stick he takes on here, sjw is one of a dying breed of footballers/pros. He'll run through brick walls for the team. He's also our all time top premiership goalscorer.
Far from finished here imo

I'll have to hold my hands up..after the Palace debacle I was totally convinced Jon had nothing more to offer at this level.
He is like Teflon though..and since the West Ham game he has shown he can still be of use..
We all know what he is good at..or more importantly what he can't do..but often you need him in there to allow the more gifted players room to play in.

It was fully intentional, a superb bit of skill from our very own and special SJW and I am not wrong. Well done SJW, you put us on the road to yet another solid 3 points. Life is good, the strength of our bench said it all for me yesterday, happy days.

For me its movement and graft from SJW versus hold up and pure strength from WB. I think Bony has goals in him but I don't know if were content with patience and having him as an option waiting for that rush but want more of a right now goal scorer. Personally I'd like to keep him as either Crouch or Joselu go. I like him and he works with Allen well.

No one's had more criticism on here than SJW.
Strange given how he's pissed blood for Stoke over the years.
He does what it says on the tin.
A True Stoke Legend.

Nope, he had a very good game. Oh my god! Tell me the one good scene from Jon in the game, apart from the goal?? Please, only one?? The goal was great - and the rest of the game he was either invisible or couldn´t handle a ball. In the second half i could hardly see, that he is still on the pitch. Respect to Jon for the goal - it looked great ...but please stop writing of good performances by a player who doesn´t take part 98 % of a game.
I like Jon, he is a sympathic guy who has done a lot for the club - he has my respect - but he is definitely the most limited player of Stoke City, that´s a fact.1. He wasn't "invisible" 2. He's not allowed to "handle" the ball 3. In the second half you say you could "hardly see" I think that makes your opinion pretty worthless 4. You say he doesn't take part "98% of a game". This is incorrect. He played the whole match. 5. What is a "sympathic guy"? 6. He is not "definitely the most limited player of Stoke City" and no it is NOT "a fact"

I'm delighted for him. He intended the goal and it's an insult to say he didn't.
He is not a glamour player but he's a great servant to this club, he earns his place in the side, and I don't get why he gets such a hard time.

Impossible to quantity but I wonder how important SJW has been in setting an example to others at the club. It's probably my addled SJW adoring mind but I see a lot of Jon in Arnie these days. As gifted as he is Arnie seems to have lacked something in the way of mentality, thus ending up here at Stoke. Not a massive leap of imagination to see Arnie admiring Jon in training (ooooohh errr) and thinking "Fuck me, imagine if I work that hard??!!". Now all Arnie needs to do is add a bit of silky SJW skills to his game and he might make a player. PS In case anybody misses it the last sentence was saracasm. Ish.
