Player of the season come May 2017. I agree, but I said that would be Wollscheid before he was sold. <cough>

It's funny. I thought that buying Imbula would make us shoe-ins for top 8 after we bought him, given how impressive we had been in the months previous.
Although probably not the fault of the lad, his arrival seemingly had the opposite effect. I disagree that it's down (solely) to him, but rather that he's unbalanced what definitely a more balanced squad prior to his arrival. Injuries to Butland, Johnson and Afellay simply compounded the issues.

The English football fan disease - always concentrate on the bad points of a footballer. It's always what a player can't do instead of what he can do.

It's the nature of the bad bits, in the role he plays those bad bits are abosolutely vital bits of his game.
And when he's not doing the things he excels at well either then of course people are going to have a go.
As it was showed when he first joined.
He's a fine player but to play where he does he's got to at least be an obstacle and provide shape to the side. He doesn't and never has.

So am I.
Imbula should be made for a midfield three with a pair of disciplined solid citizens around him.

He isn't though really, it kills his natural game off of coming from deep (unless you told them to fuck off). Which with the players we have isn't going to happen. And it would mean our most creative midfielder doesn't play either.

In the past few weeks I've read how Imbula has been "bullied" by posters on here, been made a "scapegoat" and is now subject to a witch-hunt".
As I said previously, if any of that is even remotely true then the treatment our ex manager gets on here must amount to attempted murder.

Not necessarily
And (with regard to Pugsley's post) ... what point are you actually making?

Form, fitness and opposition all to be taken into account but I'd play both, and Allen. Whelan and Adam (& hopefully Afellay after Xmas) on the bench.

I can't imagine either Imbula or Hughes spend much time on here - it's only for pathetic sods like us that need to get a life. If they do read this stuff I doubt it's anything they haven't already heard from their respective bosses - assuming they are doing their jobs, that is.

So just one player in there who's prepared to work when we aren't in possession? Just one player in there who's prepared to put a tackle in?
Who's going to protect our back four, when Allen's putting tackles in on the edge of the opposition box?

So am I. Imbula should be made for a midfield three with a pair of disciplined solid citizens around him. sorry but with respect , I disagree you can't start designating work to a couple of others, in professional football ! From Mickey Thomas and Howard Kendall to Rory Delap and Glenn Whelan ... I don't recall them delegating putting a tackle in, to someone else . He's has poor going forward as he his going backwards ... every midfielders job is to turn away from trouble and move the ball quickly and to good effect , but not in a predictable way , sometimes quickly knocking it out wide , another time threading a ball through the middle unfortunately he often doesn't do this ... preferring to go on a bit of a dribble, with the blatant aim of working the ball onto his good foot . He is the most predictable player in the team and in top flight football, predictable is the last thing you want to be.
