Just another part of the marvellous jigsaw puzzle, with a management team who need to find the balance between harnessing and unleashing. a reminder amongst the to and fro. And this popped up. Just look at it when that fucker drives... pardon me French.

I've watched him play, he has absolutely no awareness of either his team mates or opposition running off him. Fuck all to do with body shape it's all in the head I'm afraid mate He does let runners slip by him but he also serves no purpose in a team shape. He can be facing someone up and has full knowledge of them and tries to stop them but his positioning and body shape is horrific and he might as well not be there. It's also clear you have no idea what Charles Hughes was actually on about either. I've got a vague idea of what Charlie was on about. Lump it forward and often wasn't it? Suppose it could catch on.

Your second sentence is just supposition. No actually scrap that it's made up bollocks.... It happens numerous times every game and has done since he joined us. It's part of the reason he gives so many fouls away too because they get past him and then he legs them up. Do you actually watch him? I try to but my body shape is all wrong and I end up staring at the incinerator for 90 minutes

This really is becoming childish now bayern, you started talking about footballers 'body shape' which is covered by no end of coaching manuals. I then made a reference to Charles Hughes who produced a manual about football and tactics....get the link? Never mind

The way he's facing, the direction and added to that he's pretty flat footed. The way he shapes up defensively doesn't allow him to be an effective obstacle and he offers nothing. He doesn't show them on to one side and he often gets himself in that much of a mess that he will go past the attacker and let them in that way. He hasn't got a clue on how to actually stand in shape in order to make it hard to break the side down. And then he's chasing and either not catching them or fouling them. Defensively he just hasn't got a clue.

He clearly has no idea about body shape and it doesn't matter that he's been coached already. He needs more and he needs to be dragged around a football pitch by a coach and walked through it. Having years of coaching means naff all if he either doesn't listen or just doesn't want to do it. And if it's either of them then he shouldn't be in the squad.

To me his body position just isn't right, he doesn't stand correctly, positioning goes beyond that and is imo more advanced. I don't think he's got either down to a tee.

I read the title wrong and thought Imbula was a witch and we were being ordered to hunt him? He has been a big part of the problem this season though (hughes' fault) as hughes has tried to shoehorn him and allen into a midfield three that doesnt work. Hughes needs to get back to his 4231 and have the balls to drop him. I would try allen with cameron and also chuck joel taylor in at left back (can he be any worse than pieters?)..bardsley didnt deserve to be dropped for cameron either. With players available currently..why not.... Grant Taylor Indi Shawcross Bardsley Allen Cameron Arnie Bojan Sobhi Bony

Imbula will always be seen as the scapegoat for many, because he is our most expensive player in such an important role.
The problem isn't Imbula for me, it's Hughes' insistence of shoehorning him into the side at all times. He's trying to cram Imbula,Allen and Whelan all into the same midfield - something has got to give.
To Hughes regardless of how he plays, he's un-droppable Imbula is a young man, every now and again he needs a kick up the arse, dropping him would do him good IMO.

He hauled ass and chased play for 50 yards to get back and challenge a man at the weekend. He very rarely does it though and I don't want him to be some defensive rock but the ease at which players run past him is worrying. He's got no idea of body shape/position. He needs coaching and I think it's as simple as that. not one of the players at the minute is giving 100% , they ought to take a look at the change of mentality at man c. new manager has them all pressuring the ball , we need to start playing like this or is it down to our players not being fit enough.

Some Stoke fans - what an angry blinkered bunch. Imbula has not had a brilliant start to the season granted. But to make him a scape goat for our current plight is just so far off the mark - he is obviously a victim of the price tag. I think we have far bigger issues to address. Whelan and Walters are not good enough. Our full backs absolutely are not and at present we look weak in goal. Yet I keep reading Imbula is to blame. I do not think Imbula has done all that well but he aint the sole reason for our start. That is nonsense. A couple of wins and everyone's mood changes - we will beat Palace, I honestly think this but we must all stay together and get off the mans back. Some people always want to have a scapegoat or two, but against Spurs he actually tracked back which I found promising. He really tried hard to stop Tottenham's counter attack before their third goal, but unfortunately he wasn't able to this time. Anyway I think he will come good, but he is still a young lad trying to find his feet!

A lot of it is making sure that a player wants to work at his game and then for coaches and management to get that out of him . He clearly has talent but needs to do more , also there is our team shape which is not his fault but Hughes has to get a unit that works or we will really struggle .
Most of the criticism that I direct towards him is when he switches off and looks to be playing for himself rather than the team , I hate seeing that .
I don't think you can describe as a witch hunt , he just ticks certain boxes , most expensive player so expected to have a big impact , wearing gloves on warm days and his body language at times .
He is not the only one , most of our squad need to take a good hard look at themselves , in fact at this moment in time excusing the lads who made their debuts last week I can only think of Allen who has been close to good enough so far from the entire squad

First post after a long time just reading and watching this board slowly going down the toilet, largely thanks to the never-ending stream of "you're a dick", "no, you're a dick" style interchanges that eventually dominate virtually thread (epitomised by the bayern/numpty40 rubbish on this thread.
Anyway, just to add my own thoughts to the matter, I remember clearly, around the time Imbula was signing, someone posted a comment by a Porto fan, possibly from Twitter, that Imbula was a very, very stupid footballer and they were glad to be rid of him. Is this the actual problem? He's great at what he's good at, but incapable of absorbing coaching or even following instructions. Maybe the Porto fan was right and he can only do what he knows. That would surely explain some of his on-field behaviour.
To me it looks like there's a Yaya Toure in there somewhere, but I don't know if it will ever show itself. Maybe we have to make the best of what we have and get a solid CDM for the future, so Imbula doesn't need to track back so much; going forward he can be a complete beast.

He's had 2 good games, 2 poor games. I agree with OP, the problem is far from being Imbula's fault.

One goal every 20 games. Can't tackle, can't defend, doesn't track runners. WTF did we pay 18 million for???

He's a fantastic player when on song no doubt but a little bit like Charlie you have to adapt your whole approach around him and perhaps what he can't do.

Bayern is right on this one. he can't defend. We need to find a system that gives him a free attacking role and improve his distribution. This wasnt what Hughes bought him for. He cannot have been scouted properly
