Was pondering the same thought only yesterday... Are we bigger than Villa....NO Are we bigger than Newcastle for that matter...NO. Do we have better squads than either of the above last season...NO So the answer is yes we could...But I genuinely think we will survive and finish top 10... Simply because we have a far better man in charge than Villa and Newcastle, and certainly have an even better Chairman... Whatever your drinking or whatever illegal substances your using must be outstanding ,because if you think your squad is worse than ours last season you are definitely out of it UTV No disrespect Staffsvilla but nail on head with that post mate. Sad to see a Midlands club fail but you were woefully under resourced for years since O'Neil left. The comparison is ludicrous, you're correct. It is possible we will be relegated, look at Leicester anything can happen, just hope we're not this season's fluke

On grass Villa's squad was even worse than it was on paper. The six points we took off them was a bit of a clue, as was the finishing 11 places above them. Here is a clue...They hit bottom after 11 games.... After 4 games they had 4 points. Crazy how this has happened to Villa, five or six years ago with their Academy, crowd etc etc, along with Southampton they were a kind of next level to aspire to. Bloody minded or disinterested owner. Which we definitely ain't got.

As bad as Sherwood was Hughes has shown an absolute disregard not addressing key weaknesses, Agbonlahor (sp) has been mentioned as Villas downfall, I could easily say that we have Given, Pieters, Barsdley and Whelan as our weaknesses.
All in all Hughes is solely responsible for this Almighty Cock up and simply has to go, it's that bad for me.

We spent far far too much time and effort during the close season obsessing and agonising over Berahino and getting caught up in what had become (and remains) the Prems biggest domestic. We should have just walked away - granted others were looking (lukewarm) but recognised the intransigent swivel-eyed madness that was going on at West Brom, but we chose to accommodate, perpetuate and arguably encourage it to what we can see now is our great detriment. Wilf was a rushed afterthought instead of being a very credible plan A and other key areas have been completely neglected including the real state of Butlands injury, for whom we should have been pulling in much much better quality cover. The next two matches are pivotal, and assuming the odious Pulis is still at the helm in a couple of weeks makes anything other than a win against the Baggies incendiary. That said, a win at Palace will go a long way to defuse (defer?) the situation.

In terms of only getting him on transfer deadline day we don't know when he became available and when the club and the player wanted to make the decision. Butland was setup to play the opening game - the true extent of the injury only came to light very late in the day. And the club did the best they could in the time available knowing that a top draw goalie was never going to come in when Butland would be back as first choice in a couple of months time. We're now moving from writing agendas to the re-writing of history to fit those agendas. Its getting like an episode of the X Files on here.

You want to re-read my post mate - I actually said that Wilf **was indeed** a (better) & highly credible plan "A" IMHO - but due to the Berahino situation was rushed in at the death - & I don't agree with your take on the club not obsessing - Coates & Hughes made a number of media statements over a protracted period in an attempt to up the ante on West Brom which ultimately failed - they should have unequivocally closed the door earlier than they did. Accept your point on Butland BUT following the Haugaard situation last season was obvious we needed better quality cover and any risk assessment of worth would have revealed the potential for Butland to have recurrent issues or delays to full recovery. So no agenda here pal - I'm not clever enough!

I was just joshing(as you know!)! It's also a statement of fact! Villa won at Bournemouth 0-1! Wonder how many matches it will be before we have a clean sheet too! We've got fewer clean sheets than a Blackpool B&B!

No; Stoke's squad is much more talented than Villa's last season.
But, the mention of Newcastle above does bring a cold shudder. The Newcastle squad was bursting with talented players that had just "lost it" and seemed incapable of responding to management direction whoever the manager was. Newcastle also didn't get the rub of the green in matches, e.g. Butland earned us a point there when they clearly should have got 3 points against us on chances created.
If Ryan's shot at a corner on Saturday had been a foot to the right and gone in, we would have equalized and the momentum of the game could have swung in our favour, with Spurs going into their shell the way they were in the first quarter of the game. On such twists of fate are games decided.
(I'm ever the optimist!)

I must say that if Huges can't keep us up with the squad we now have he really deserves to get the sack! That said I don't believe we'll go down, but end up around 10th place this season too. Injuries will play a big factor if we can compete for 8th or 9th, but anyway we should stay comfortably clear of relegation and at least be 12th.

We have a far superior squad to the one Villa had, so it's a no from me! But comparisons to Villa last season are irrelevant, it's the likes of Boro, Sunderland, Southampton, Hull, Burnley and the likes THIS SEASON we need to be comparing...And whilst our fit squad is better than those mentioned, we are very vulnerable in defense, and we miss Jack terribly, lets hope the mountain we have to climb to get out of our current malaise is not to steep...

t villa but hughes might become the next lambert It might rain tomorrow, but also it might not. Coates isn't daft he wont let it get too serious. Loyalty is non existent in football if one of them big jobs were offered to hughes last season he'd of been offski. When you have players like bojan krkic, arnautovic and the rest our form over 6 month is embarrasing. He's not getting the best out of a talented group of individuals and coates even knows it. Someone could come in and make nojan the player he without doubt is.
