Not able to play anyone registered in the first team squad of 25 players, and that all games are to be played during the international breaks.
So Sobhi, Haugaard out for sure.
What do we reckon?

Not sure how many senior players can be involved for this one, but 1/2 on the Bradford win is buying money I think.....they're a very good League 1 side, they really should brush aside our U-23's.
Fancy an acca - any league league 1 sides to beat the U-23's to be honest.

Too short. We'll get absolutely smashed unless they play their bench in which case we'll just get beat.

I'd like to know what evidence people are making their assumptions that we will get thrashed. Stoke will be fielding an under 23 team. These players are young men who are aspiring towards playing in the Premier League. Many of our fans are believing that individuals in our squad are close to pushing into the first team squad. Personally I will be expecting the team to push Bradford all the way and hopefully we can get a result!

I watched all the under 21 games last season and they are not a good side

So that's pretty much confirmed that it'll be kids completely.

We've received this email from a Bradford fan which may be of help to those of you going to tonight's game.
-------------------------------
Firstly I've got to say that I won't be joining you at the match as I'll be one of the many fans staying away because I don't believe that b teams should be allowed anywhere near the lower leagues. However, much as I hope that most Stoke fans stay at home in solidarity (or indifference) if some of you fancy making the trip to VP then here's a few bits and pieces that may be of interest:
If you're looking for a drink before the match then North Parade (between the station and the ground) is the place to head for to check out one of a number of decent pubs/bars. Food is a bit harder to find but I'm sure that Google will point you towards the nearest fast food chain of your choice or you could always go for a curry, in which case the area behind the Alhambra theatre is probably as good an option as any.
Street parking will be plentiful on the roads around the ground but be aware that there have been a spate of break-ins recently so don't leave anything on the back seat.
As far as the team we might put out it's anyone's guess but it's worth bearing in mind that this is not an official first team competition and Saturday's match against Oldham (our 6th so far this season) was the first one at which we'd managed to fill the subs bench due to injuries and a general lack of players. In addition, based on the comments coming out of the club I'd say that our feelings towards this competion are indifferent at best so the hopes of Glynn Hodges that your academy will be pitted against a full strength L1 team are somewhat fanciful, in fact, given that he is talking of bolstering the academy squad with some of your first team squad it could well be that we end up fielding the younger team which would be somewhat ironic but I guess that this competition is all about giving youth a chance. We have to field at least 5 of the team that started on Saturday to avoid a £5,000 fine so we'll be doing that, my guess would be Colin Doyle (GK) and Tim Dieng (CM - made his debut after injury) and also the 3 teenagers who started Josh Cullen (CM on loan from West Ham), Danny Devine (RB/CM) and Jordy Hiwula (CF). In addition to them we'll probably have a couple of senior players coming back from injury who haven't had any real game time in Phil Morais (RM/CF) and Matt Kilgallon (CB) and maybe our club captain Steven Darby (RB) although I suspect he's more likely to come on at half time. Other than that I think it's going to be mostly the kids from our youth team who are on the fringes of the first team squad but there may be one or two seasoned pros in to make up the numbers.
I'll be interested to see what the crowd is, we had around 4,100 for the 1st round match last season (and that was a rearranged fixture after the first match was called off 5 min before kick off due to a biblical down pour) but I think that this could break our record for the lowest crowd.
Hope you all enjoy listening to the match on the radio and enjoy your trip to Morecambe.
Nic

Sohbi is on international duty as is Bachmann and Abdallah so that limits selection. I thought we had to field at least 6 under 21s and other first teasers could play?
Plan to travel across as it's only 40 miles away, to see if they man up.

Presumably if you wished you could give a fair few older players a game? For the Invited Clubs, a registered player is one who would be registered and eligible to participate in a Premier League and/or Premier League 2 match commencing at the same time and on the same date as the Match in accordance with the provisions of the relevant Premier League rules. Each Invited Club must ensure that in each Match at least 6 of the starting eleven players named on the Team Sheet are players who were aged under 21 as at the 30th June in the year in which the Season concerned commenced. As I have stated in a previous thread, we (along with all the other academy teams) will have the better technical players, but the academy teams will get turned over because they don't have the physicality or experience of dealing with the physicality that a lot of the lower league teams employ.

I've cut and pasted this from the ticket thread. Looks like some of us will be heading up to the Bradford Arms before the game, if anyone else fancies a drink: 'I haven't been out drinking in Bradford for years, so I can't vouch for its accuracy, but I've lifted this from the Football Ground Guide: " Chris O'Sullivan a visiting Bury fan recommends the Bradford Arms on Manningham Lane; 'It is only about two minutes from the ground and was welcoming to away fans'. About a ten minute walk away from the stadium along Manningham Road (going away from the City Centre) is the Cartwright Hotel, which has a sizeable bar. Also about a ten minute walk away (this time towards the City Centre) is the 'Corn Dolly' on Bolton Road, which is listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, as is the New Beehive on Westgate. The New Beehive is somewhat of a 'step back in time' still having gas lighting.
Near to Bradford Forster Square Station on North Parade is another pub to feature in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, the Sparrow Bier Bar. This bar offers up to four real ales, plus ciders and continental lagers. Neil Le Milliere a visiting Exeter City fan adds; 'The Sparrow was superb. Although on the small side (it is probably only good for 50 or so supporters), it is still an excellent place to visit with a superb choice of ales and special drinks. Plus the pork pies were to die for!'
Alcohol is not available to away fans in the TL Dallas Stand. If there is a large following and the Club allocate a portion of the Midland Road Stand to visiting supporters, then beer is on sale in that stand." I'll hopefully be in Bradford from about 6-ish. Would be good if some of us could meet up for a drink beforehand.' Read more: oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/260011/bradford-tickets-available-on-night#ixzz4IpT5Cg4a
