Weird thinking about Stoke without Ryan Shawcross. It's hard for me to comprehend he may never get back to his best. It must scare Ryan as well. I really, really, really REALLY hope we can get our old Ryan back, we need him desperately fellas. The thought of him being replaced is difficult to take...C'mon Ry we need ya mate Already being written off on here, after only two fuckin games, mate. Fuckin priceless
The buck starts & stop with the manager when it comes to the defence
I doubt he hasn't got better things to do but I hope Ryan Shawcross doesn't read these threads!!!

I thought ryan played well myself, he kept aguero pretty quiet in open play and in the end conceding 4 isn't a fair reflection on the defence as the last 2 goals the midfield disappeared and left the defence over-run.

It's 300 odd - 2 in favour of Ryan let's be honest. Not recently You can keep knocking Wolly all you want but he is currently outplaying Ryan. But your hatred of Wolly will not allow you to see that I thought they both did ok today. But like I said the biggest issue today was the gap between and Erik. I've apportioned no blame there either. I have on Twitter. It doesn't involve Wolly.

In real time neither looked like penalties. Spot on, both looked very soft to me. People suggesting Shawcross looks out of place in a footballing side, are talking rubbish. If he's not the player he once was then it's because of his back injury. It's a damn shame. Yet the attitude of some, strip him of captaincy, drop him, fucking sell him?! Talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water

Thought Ryan was fine today.
Soft pen that only the ref thought was one.
Our set up gave them too much of the ball in front of our 18 yard box and they kept getting down the side of us (particularly down our left).

Something that should be sorted on the training ground.

My problem with him at the moment is the only time he opens his mouth is to the ref. As a captain and leader i want him grab a stoke player around the neck and tell him to up his game. The reason he's not doing this? Have a guess. Though i always remember Roy Keane saying that even if he was having a bad game himself he'd still be a leader out there and pull the team together. We just seem to be falling apart.

Perhaps I've used a bit of artistic licence to imply that means fuck the ones we've already got off to fit my own agenda to point at the absurdity of some of the comments posted.

Just highlights the lack of depth at centre half. Ryan has been phenomenal for us and still will be hopefully but he clearly isn't right and he's not playing at the level he once was. Problem is, every player needs to be challenging for a place, doesn't matter who you are, it keeps players sharp and completely focussed but with Ryan there's absolutely no one to push for his place.
We will be ok this year, the team and Ryan will improve but there's no doubt about it, he isn't the same player since his injury, nowhere near.

What the actual fuck? We have been in the Premier League for over 8 seasons now and Shawcross has been our most important player and instrumental in taking us from a Championship side to a top ten Premier League side... show some fucking respect you morons There's showing respect, and pointing out some facts. I love Ryan and hope he gets back to where he was, but he is so far off that at the moment that it's scary. Well there's a facts and opinions. I've not seen many facts on here. I agree he is going through a tough patch, but in over 8 seasons he has never let us down. People should show a bit more faith in him and not be so keen to stick the knife in.

Be interesting to see if he makes the next match. At 2-1 he pulled his back/side muscle during a defensive corner and spent the rest of the half holding and stretching it.
Hopefully it's nowt major.

Since his debut in August 2008 no player other than bassong has given away more penaltys in the premier league 9 altogether . He is also the first player since Walcott to give away and win a penalty in the same game since 2011

It rips my heart out to say it but I fear Ryan may be done at the very top level. I know saying 'I hope I'm wrong' has become sort of crime on here but I genuinely hope I'm proved to be an idiot.
As for Wollscheid, well he makes Wilson look like a safe pair of hands.

All this talk of Ryan being done at the top level confuses me greatly. Yes there is a chance he won't return to his best but, forgive me if I'm missing something, but surely it's way more likely that he will get back there again but it will take a significant period of time for him to regain confidence in his body?
It just seems way more likely to me that he is still in the recovery phase of a major injury and that he will assume his position as our most important player once more, hopefully sooner rather than later. The doom and gloom and fairly widespread predictions that he is probably finished looks like nothing more than a pessimism wildfire that is spreading in the minds of many posters on this mb.
I'm not one to shy away from the truth even if it is brutal. I don't know what I'm missing but I don't see how people are so confidently predicting that Ryan will never be able to return to his previous levels. What information do you guys have that makes you so emboldened to make these claims? It's a brutal proposition but I won't be accepting it because I don't see how it can be presented as the truth.

Let's face reality shaw cross is knackered he is miles away from what he was before his back problems and it is highly unlikely he will get back to that level but what is more worrying is that Hughes seems oblivious to this we need 2 new centre backs as wholly is garbage this is likely to be the qpr season we all feared when Hughes was appointed

We will struggle this season Why will we mate? Don't think you can judge how the season will go based on one half of football against Man City. As disappointing as the scoreline and the disjointedness of our forward play has been, let's not forget we are playing an incredibly good team with a world-class front line. Yes, improvements need to be made but to say we're going to struggle this season seems a bit of an overreaction. Hopefully the players will have their better half attacking The Boothen End Struggle as after a summer window which has provided the most ever money and potential with two weeks to go until the window closes the 'obvious' frailties from last season have 'still' not been addressed!!

Refreshingly honest by Ryan. I'd agree and say that there was very little in the one he won. That said, the one he conceded was six of one - for all the slating if the referee, I think he was evening it up.

Sign a proper fucking centre half to play alongside him and this shite talk about him being finished will end.
At times playing alongside Woolly is akin to playing with your laces tied together.
