I can name 101 reasons but will name just a few - 1. Last year's negative GD speaks volumes about the real worth of the team 2. We have no proven goal scorer - diouf is no goal scorer - he just managed to miss the goal by 10 yards from 5 yards out 3. Mega problems in defence - shawx is a shadow of his former self 4. Not enough depth in the squad - look at today's bench - championship level at best 5. Big teams will not drop points like last year 6.. Teams our level have strengthened much more than us Just don't share your pessimism there mate. I acknowledge that we need a couple more if we can, but the squad still managed 9th despite being spectacularly inconsistent. If we drop a couple of places then, unfortunately won't be a surprise for some of the reasons you've mentioned, but to say we'll struggle I think is hyperbole. Something very wrong would have to take place for us to be scrapping amongst the bottom 3-5 teams. There's still plenty of talent in this squad. I'm sick and tired of this "we finished 9th" bollox. That has absolutely nothing to do with anything related to this season. Right now, we are worse off than we were at the end of last season. Shawcross is almost certainly finished and we haven't replaced him. And we don't have a finisher. We looked OK at times in MF against a very good team and Allen was a breath of fresh. However, Imbula was ineffective and Bojan wasn't much better. Wake up and smell the bacon.

Shawcross looks so slow and also slightly overweight if Stoke sign Another defender heĀ“ll be dropped on current form. At the moment it would be better to play Cameron/Wollscheid. I agree with you.

Some unbelievable comments on here. Shawcross was wrong but some on here want to hang him. FFS! After today is fucking hang him. I said in June we needed two centre backs. One to replace Wolly and one to push Ryan. Now I'd replace the both. Ryan is getting worse. I'm sick of him putting his head down and moping. Fucking behave like a defender and a captain.

Good servant but currently looks shaky
Forget the penalty he obviously didn't believe referees have changed
But very poor positionally and causing others to over do things to cover for him . Always thought that Pulis's approach of more limited players hid a lot of problems in our central defence even when Shawcross was better but now he looks lost.
Butland was exceptional and that covered it up as well whereas without him we are competent at best at goalkeeper.
New centre half needed now

Shawcross is my biggest worry at the back at the moment....and people keep knocking Wolscheid!!! I said the same thing walking back to the car! Something is not right, And I think its shawcross thats the problem! Great in a Tony Pulis type of side but all at sea in a footballing side! Hope I am wrong!!

Oh FFS yes Shawcross does this every game so does pretty much every other defender in the country why did Dean give our penalty? he'd obviously looked at it during half time. We've been the victim of yet another refs attempt to make a statement.
In the main I thought Shawcross looked sound just a bit rusty but he wasn't on his own.

It was a penalty but let's cut to the chase
If Mike Dean refs Chelsea v Arsenal he DOES NOT give that penalty

In real time neither looked like penalties. Dean was most probably told he made a fuck up with his decision not to award us one in first half and ours was given to make up. Their penalty was correct decision

For another bloody centre back to go alongside another bloody centre back to replace Wolly. Did you see them last two goals with Wolly chasing back? All over the place the pair of them.

Their penalty was correct decision Didn't look it in real time and neither did ours but I guess there was contact/holding. Shawcross on the whole played ok I thought though. The biggest issue at the back was the gap between Wolly and Pieters. You could drive a bus through it.

Writing off a player who is probably 20% of what we've done in the past decade - and after only two games!!
No better than the treatment of Jon Walters

We have been in the Premier League for over 8 seasons now and Shawcross has been our most important player and instrumental in taking us from a Championship side to a top ten Premier League side... show some fucking respect you morons

Weird thinking about Stoke without Ryan Shawcross. It's hard for me to comprehend he may never get back to his best. It must scare Ryan as well. I really, really, really REALLY hope we can get our old Ryan back, we need him desperately fellas. The thought of him being replaced is difficult to take...C'mon Ry we need ya mate

Problem to me is being rushed back from injury, not fully fit and having to play because of the lack of any real quality otherwise at the back. Now people are turning on Ryan because of the manager's blind spot when it comes to the defensive side of the game FFS
