Were there any other penalties given yesterday for holding at corners, or was it just Dean trying to grab the headlines again?? Just Dean. It went on in every other game, its just this over zealous, limelight grabbing, useless tit. He needs a bollocking from the FA.

Holding at corners ruins the game and I was glad Dean picked it up - sterling didn't even look at the ball he was facing the other way - but yes there should be consistency - could start with Huth 😊

Neither of them were particularly bad examples of the practice though. If he is consistent he will be giving penalties in every single game, I'll certainly be backing a penalty to be given in his next game, roughtly 7/2.
The bald scrote completely runined what was shaping up to be a decent game.

No but Richard Keogh at the Derby v Villa televised game nearly had his shirt pulled off in the box with the ref Paul Tierney(on the elite list) and the liner looking straight at it

Lest see if he gives 2 or more penalties in every game for the rest of the season
thats the true measure
and whats even more galling, the blatant one he missed giving - obvious and disgraceful

As I've just said on another thread, I don't think either were penalties at all.
The first was 50/50 and the second was trying to atone for missing the one on Allen.
Dean is a total and utter knob.
Also how the fuck was the challenge on Wolly not a yellow?
Their player also moaned about it even being a free kick! Dissent?
Bollocks.

Just seen the highlights. Neither a penalty.
They've spoken about it for 10 minutes on Goals on Sunday which is exactly what that twat Dean wants. He'll be a happy man today.

Mike Dean had 3 decisions to make in the game yesterday.
He got them all wrong.
Gave 2 penalties that were extremely soft.
Then missed an absolute blatant penalty.
That pretty much sums up the mans incompetence. Nothing surprises with the egotistical pillock.

This week alone various refs have shown that they are biased towards the so-called top teams. Diego Costa should have had a second yellow for raking his studs down the West Ham goalie's shin, yesterday he wasn't given a second yellow for a blatant dive. In both games he later scored the winning goal! Arsenal's Coquelin didn't get a second yellow and Leicester should have had 2 penalties against them, Stones wasn't booked for diving, so when he was later yellow carded for chopping down a Stoke player he wasn't sent off, and of course the obvious blatant foul on Joe Allen wasn't given, which may have changed the course of the match. A case for an investigation into corruption?

I just watched the two penalties in yesterday's match. You could make an reasonable argument that Shawcross grabbed an arm. But, bloody hell. I have no idea how he arrived at the second. Apart from the fact that there was virtually no contact except both players simultaneously pushing each other very slightly, the idea of Sterling even dreaming that he could out muscle Shawcross is ludrious. As Mohamed Ali once remarked "even if you dreamed of doing that, you'd wake and apologise".

Seeing it again Dean was quite right , in both decisions, but I will be looking out to see if he applies it to Man U , Chelsea etc.

For me, Phil Neville said it how it is on MOTD. There does have to be an element of physical contact for defenders to mark opponents. Football is a contact sport, if its half a dosen of one and six of the other then it should be ignored. If someone is blatantly wrestled to the ground however then its different. Was definitely a case of "Look at me, I'm on TV" for Dean.
If this new directive is going to work it needs to be 100% consistent. That means:
Consistent for all teams, including the top 6 (who tend to get away with it) Consistent for attackers as well as defenders (I find the onus is always on defenders, goes un-noticed most of the time when the attacker does it) Consistency from all referees across all fixtures

Lets not forget the linesman either, I know the decisions were quite as influencial but he was 5 yards behind play for most of the game (the one closest to the Boothen). One instance the ball went out by at least 3 yards, and it went unnoticed. It's hard enough playing against Man City as it is, without having a bunch of clowns officiating.

Sad day when the FA concentrate their efforts on eliminating minor infringements like these when there could be a technological answer in retrospective punishment from video analysis.
Get rugby referees trained up, ours are broken.

ALL players need to keep their arms off opponents especially in the penalty box, that is what everyone should be thinking after the game on Saturday, rather than trying to blame the officials.

A case for an investigation into corruption? With the amount of money in the game now, I have no doubt whatsoever that underhand dealing takes place. There is too much at stake for it not to. The performance of officials and the reluctance of the authorities to do anything about it, just confirms it for me. If I wasnt hopelessly addicted I would give up on football as I feel that it is a corrupted and vile shadow of the game I loved when I was growing up.

The main differences between officials today and those of many years ago is in three key areas, at least in my opinion.
1. Players cheating as become more subtle, such as diving and shirt pulling.
2. Their mistakes are shown over and over again on television and the Internet.
3. The rules have become more complicated, one example of this is the offside rule.
My own view is that in general the performance of the officials is pretty good and considering they have only seconds to make a decision it's fairly remarkable they make so few mistakes.

On point 3 - the foul on Allen in the box is a pretty simple rule to understand.
