It was a fair penalty. Shawcross is a fuckin idiot Fair enough, he was stupid but will we see penalties every time players do the same? No but the Shawcross forced the ref to make a decision. You win some you lose some. In the end, the rule book says that man handling in the box is a penalty so nothing much to argue here.

fuck off never a pen, mike dean is a fucking **** prick bastard who shouldn't be anywhere near a football pitch. every decision is one way, I hope hughesy hides in the tunnel and fucks him up at halftime. Have another look it was a clear penalty, Ryan being Ryan and doing what he does week in and week out.

Mike Dean is a crap referee and it was a nailed on penalty but Diouf should have scored or at least had it on target as should Imbula. We cannot go on blaming referees for awful performances like this. Defence is all over the place and attack is toothless. Shawcross knows the rules and what the refs have been instructed to do so no excuse. Imbulas attempt was pittiful considering how much time he had to hit it, Diouf went to form and missed ANOTHER attempt that he should have scored....... But they shouldnt have had the chances is the first place because it was an absolute stonewall penalty on Joe Allen, why was the assistant not giving that?

I've seen 2 penalties given for holding, both penalized Stoke, if they're genuinely looking to stop holding then great, if ours is the only one given this weekend then it's a fucking joke

Never have a bad word said about Mike Dean. Good to see a bit of consistency. Games are going to become a farce though at this rate.

Crap for both teams, basically. Two comedy penalties given, two fairly blatant ones missed and a complete lottery with yellow cards and free kicks.

We should have had 3 pens, theirs was a definate too. Now i don't mind this holding rule, but i think it was harsh to hand shawcross and sterling yellow cards as well, i think the penalties were punishment enough. Mike dean is a poor ref in my view although he was well positioned for the penalties he awarded there were many occassions where he was nowhere near the action. Perhaps he needed more help, but he was hardly busting a gut to get in good positions.

I thought dean was all over the place at times and then consistent and then inconsistent. Shawcrosses peno was rightly called and then we got a soft one from him later. All over the place. Second rate ref compared to Clattenburg.

Mr. Dean does love the top sides doesn't he? Take their 3rd. goal, Wolly is taken out by the Manc player standing on his ankle, free kick to Stoke! no, he lets the Mancs play on whilst Wolly is down injured, so go on to score their 3rd.

To be honest, I thought that we were shafted with that decision and their penalty was soft. OK, if the rules say that handling in the box is an infringement, then be consistent and give the penalty every time, not turn a blind eye to it 99% of the time and just look to stamp down on those, such as Ryan, who have a bit of a reputation within the media for it. I bet we will see loads of shirt pulling across every other game this weekend, but no-one else will give away a penalty for it.
The worst thing about it was that it ruined the game, the heads dropped after we went behind and even though the ref 'evened up' the game, we were already 2 down and never looked like getting back on level terms after we scored the pen.

This. The inconsistency is the biggest problem. Would a ref have given that against Terry/Kompany/Smalling.....i think we all know the answer?

Interesting if they carry on as he did yesterday as the advantage rule he played a few times when we then went on to lose the all is no advantage at all . The advantage is to get a dead ball ball launch into the box and hope for a push . Seeing our penalty yesterday will have given a few people an idea of running into people into the box who naturally push you away it's quite likely some will be given .

The only proper pen was the foul on Allen. I've seen far worse go on than the 2 that were given. Very dangerous precedent. The first pen knocked the stuffing out of us.

The advantage is not just to get a free kick. We had clear advantage twice yesterday and recklessly gave the ball away. Our fault. Whether Dean should then bring play back is another question, but on the instances you mention, we were our own worst enemy.

Were there any other penalties given yesterday for holding at corners, or was it just Dean trying to grab the headlines again??
