We will need to have our BIG players perform to their best to stand a chance ie Shaq, Bojan & Arnie. Not to mention Imbula and Allen to boss the center of the pitch

The ahem author of this drivel is studying Broadcast Journalism at Trent Uni. I'd give up now if I was him and save his student loan money and invest in a bucket and sponge and do hand car washing. At least valeting doesn't require up to date football knowledge.

At least valeting doesn't require up to date football knowledge. LMAO broadcast journalism I won't expect to see him reporting for SkySports any time soon. He writes like he's taking his knowledge straight from MOTD circa 2009. We can all write knowledgeably about the club we support but as a journalist it helps if you have even a tiny bit of knowledge about the other 19 teams in the league. Still it brought a smile to my face on an otherwise uneventful Thursday afternoon

Bowen was on Radio this morning saying we have everyone available, good news if true that means Butland and Johnson are good to go. Don't know when that was recorded though. Johnson defo out, sounds like Butland won't be risked either

The longer people think that the way the better. Unfortunately, managers that are paying attention MAY just possibly know what's going on.

I kinda miss the longthrow days that's when I could start watching stoke on TV here instead of highlights clips. Amazing people still think were the rugby team.

Shame Butland isn't going to make it, not very confident now. If Shaq is out we won't be able to go with a false 9 unless Sobhi is ready to go. If Shaq is out I think it will be
Given Bardsley Shawcross Wolly Pieters Whelan Imbula Walters Bojan Arnie Diouf

Play Allen and strengthen that midfield and somehow arrange Diouf, Bojan and Arnie in a way that can be effective....there's the problem in a nutshell.

The injury crisis starts again...
Just what is the issue with Shaqiri? Why can't he keep himself fit?
I think we're just going to have to accept that he'll be an injury doubt for pretty much every game. Same goes for Johnson. 2 absolute crocks!
After 3 seasons the prospect of Walters on the wing is piss poor.

Shaq's ability to pick up a niggling injury in what seems like every game he plays is more frustrating than the exact same trait that seemed to afflict Victor Moses.

Cant decide if i'd rather the false nine, or diouf running the channels behind their stupid inside full back system. could've really done with Johnson for this one overlapping.

Just listening to Colin Murray on TalkSport and he was building this game up as some sort of battle of footballing philosophies. OK, it's not a wet and windy night at The Brit, and TP isn't in charge, but the managerial "Son of God" is finally...finally bringing a team to play against us - the Mighty Potters at our home ground. I can't effin' wait for this one.

With Shaq out Walters will start on the right in a BMW front line! His muscular play and ability to hold up the ball will offset Bojan playing through the middle.
I hope we go 4-3-3, with Allen bolstering the middle, which is where Pep is looking to overload with his full backs. I'd go for Geoff at right back to get forward more than Bardsley and take advantage of the gaps their full backs as midfielders approach could provide.
Given
Cameron Shawcross Wollscheid Pieters
Imbula Whelan Allen
Walters Bojan Arnautovic

Our fantastic victory against them last xmas was as much about crisp and tenacious football as it was the False 9. Football on the deck, chasing them down, those back heels, flicks and tricks etc.
Without Johnson and Shaq we'll need to tweak the approach. The 352 relies on Johnson's fitness for me too. Though it would have perhaps been a system to swamp midfield and cause havoc for their unorthodox back line.
I've seen a few of the early kick offs where teams are still eating their breakfasts first half. Be great to see us taking it by the throat. These team selections obviously rely on players being on point, if not any formation will turn to rat shit.
----------------------Given------------------- -------Bardsley Shawcross Muniesa Pieters----- -------------Imbula Whelan Adam-------------- --------------Diouf Bojan Arnautovic------------
Walters Wollscheid Allen Cameron Sobhi Crouch Haugaard Soz Jos. Fancy Crouch knicking us a last minute headed winner from a corner off the bench. super sub.
The positive flip of not bringing in loads of new signings is that we've got stability, in the topsy turvy world of the Prem, we've got squad and managerial consistancy.. Few excuses of players needing to adjust etc. Hoping Joe Allen having had a Klopp routine and the Euros should be just about ready to rock too.
Keeper. Hearing Given had 'retired from International duty to concentrate on his Club football' was a nice touch. Can't fault his dedication, it's a shame for the pantomime of football as much as owt that Jack isn't facing Joe {on the bench} tomorrow. We dunner want to rush Jack back and re bost his scar, I'm confident Given is a safe pair of hands.
Fullbacks. In the absence of Johnson I'd prefer to see a deeper/more defend first minded approach from our fullbacks, part of a more disciplined line lead by Ryan. Tasked with winning the ball and passing it forward rather than running with it and going for the give-and-go or overlap. A quicker transition from defence to attack in effect. You can kick a bo faster than you can run. Pieters has impressive tackling stats, Bardsley's a cruncher too. Think Bardsley was one of our most improved players over the past six months {if's and but's, but I reckon he did enough to have made a Scot Euro squad.}. Since his sending off against Chelsea in the Cup I thought he'd calmed the mist and put in some great performances. Not so hot last week but saw enough last term to persevere. Tweak the dial to defence and they're both fine players.
Centre Backs. Big fan of the Wolfman, been a great addition to our squad {despite the doubters}. I still prefer him on the right, for this game I'd pick Muniesa to partner Ryan.. I've a hope that this is the season for Marc Muniesa to step up {make or break really}. Think Shawcross and Muniesa at their best are a better complimentary partnership. We could benefit from Marc's mobility in this one. I like the idea of Muniesa loitering around the edge of the oppo penalty area on our corners and free kicks. He's got a cracking shot on him, and I still harbour hopes that him and Bojan can spark on the pitch too. We can accommodate an occasional foray up front from him if the full back is sitting deeper. A close call between Phillip and Marc.
Midfield. At our worst Hughes' attempts to settle on a midfield without N'Zonzi has left us open and exposed and at risk of a thraping. I still feel Whelan is talismanic for us, if he's on his game it unlocks the flair, if Whelan has a shitter generally so do we. I love Imbula's drive, it still has a tendency to break down too often so I feel we need Whelan to watch his back. Not seen enough of an Imbula/Allen midfield pair, I'd be cautious about it vs Man City. Adam for his passing and the unnerving pot shot. Obvious and with a swirling wind should cause chaos. Keep their keeper on his toes, disrupt their mojo. A close call between Adam and Allen as a starter. {Big game, home starting debut understandable if that swayed the decision in Joe's favour though.}
Forwards. We unlocked them with the False 9 with Arnie drifting into the Centre Forward position while Shaq/Johnson occupied them on the right. Plumped for Diouf because for me there's been loads of times when he's had decent games on the right. Not in the traditional bye line hugger obviously but he has a knack of drifting into dangerous areas when Arnie's on the ball on the other side. Always a threat from a header or an instinctive shot 'on the back post'. Kind of offers two options for that False 9/drifting striker thing to work it's magic.. Arnie's Arnie he'll be getting a rousing reception from me. Important to find a way of unlocking Bojan's finest attributes. Gliding around, pulling strings and things. A close call between Walters and Diouf. I'd be happy enough with a resurrection of the Boj/SJW Beauty & Beast combination.
Bench looks strong enough too.
Optimistic.... Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmm Go on Stoke.
