So we need a goalkeeper, a centre back, 2 fullbacks, a better winger, a proper whelan replacement and a striker. At last you post some sense

Whilst they were both crap today I don't agree that Pieters has been bad for 18 months.
I think he mainly had a good season last season and we seem very quick to throw him under the bus.

Our fullbacks are meant to provide width so Arnie and Shaq don't spend all game out wide
Good luck with that plan if Johnson isn't fit and Pieters decides to implode

He was having a good season until he signed a long term contract, since when he has been awful, definitely needs dropping to give him a kick up the arse .

Amavi and Trippier please Sparky. Is Trippier that much better than Bardsley? When you're paying a big transfer fee and £50.000 a week for a full back you want a next level player. At the moment I would say that Trippier, Johnson, Cameron and Bardsley are all fairly similar ability wise!

Some of todays form may be down to finding fitness but I do think Eric needs some competition. Taylor has impressed me whenever I've seen him so he's definitely worth giving a try. If MH doesn't think he's good enough I do think we need someone in. As for GK - Unless Jacks injury is serious I think Given's Ok. RB - Johnson, GCam and Bardsley are decent enough. CB - Yes we need someone. Winger - With Sobhi and Walters that's fine. Striker - Anyone including the manager can see we need improvement. DM - lets see Allen and Imbula first. Only necessary if MH wants a Whelan type every game.

Pieters didn't have a clue what was going on around him at times Can't get my head around it. He's a shadow of the player he was only 12-18 months ago. What happened? Sent from my SM-G928F using proboards He signed a new contract?

Good point ,centre halves improved second half . As for those two fullbacks they nearly cost us the game so often. Both got rinsed by Boros fullbacks regularly. Bardsley is well past his sell buy and Pieters only has one gear SLOW and has needed replacing for 18 months.. Im sure our attacking play and options would improve as well with quicker fullbacks capable of joining in. S Are our fullbacks the problem or is. It the system we try to play? Not sure as I don't get a million pound to play to our strengths with the players we have.

We basically lack pace wide,we play with an inverted wingers system which relys on Fullbacks to give width, unfortunately they need pace to do that which our fullbacks lack so everything goes through the middle.Eye of a needle stuff easily cut out and swamped out

So we'll pay about a million a month to keep Bardsley, Johnson and Cameron plus a few million on Trippier in transfer fees and wages. Long live Bet365

Just got back.
It was pretty obvious from word go that Beardsley was the target. He was particularly bad but so were most of them at the back.
Ryan just isn't the player he was a few years ago. It's such a shame but he moves awkwardly, has lost a yard and seems to be caught flat footed a lot.
Wolly was the one shinning light today in defence, much like he was a lot last season but he wears gloves when it's cold and runs funny so must be shite.
We know Pieters can play better and despite a terrible performance i still prefer Beardsley over Cameron but would prefer a new RB and CB as a priority.

To be fair both got skinned. And easily. And by championship players.
Deny it happened if you want. But it did.

A rare moment of universal consensus on this messageboard: our fullbacks were fucking woeful today. That might have been Pieters' worst performance in a Stoke shirt. Bring ba ck Shotton....oops meant to post this on the strikers thread 😁

Pieters has been one of our most consistently reliable players since his arrival until he signed a new contract last season after which he has consistently let himself down. In mitigation, Pieters took a hard knock in the first half so there may be grounds for his poor performance for the rest of the match. I don't like Muniesa at LB but he deserves a run out unless we can buy one; even Wilson played better there than today's performance.
Bardsley plays well at times but is liable to have a stinker. Today wasn't a stinker but clearly Johnson gets the nod when he is fit. Alternatively if Johnson isn't fit, then Cameron has to be considered
Nostalgia time. What happened to the days when we produced FBs like Tony Allen, Bill Bentley, Jackie Marsh, and Micky Pejic?

Can only agree. Muniesa is no alternative on the left and I'm afraid there have now got to be doubts about Johnson's ability to play regularly. Another area that our transfer team has failed to address. Pieters back to looking a liability again and for all his commitment Bardsley not good enough.
