This has got to be up there with one of the most thick as fuck posts on here. You sir, are a tit. How so? I've watched stoke pretty much my whole life and arguably we have the best team I've ever seen in our colours. I'm not saying I want to go down or that we will but in all honesty mid table obscurity is a tad boring. Does it really matter that we were abysmal in the 1st half today? Doesn't it really matter that we were so much better in the second half? Todays result doesn't really matter. For me, its just getting mote and more dull each season. That isn't a criticism of Hughes, stoke city or any prediction of impending doom, its more a reflection of modern day top flight football. We won't win the league. We aren't good enough to break into the top 6 or 7, we will probably always fall just short in the cup competitions but we are nowhere near bad enough to go down. In truth, last season was superb. 9th and a penalty kick away from a major cup final yet for many it was still not good enough. Off up the Vale with you, sir. You are allowed to whine as much as like, but you are not allowed to give up.

Dave I'm not going to have a go at your original post but read over the last sentence you wrote on this quote and in a way your contradicting yourself. Your saying last season was touching superb but have lost your Stoke Mojo and pondered the thought of relegation. If everybody wasn't happy with last season then it's up to them but obviously your views were different. Not really. On paper you'd take 9th and a cup semi final every season but was it enjoyable? Really? Games matter when something is riding on them. The whole day, the tension, the atmosphere, the result, the impact on your life. It all matters. Mid table obscurity doesn't matter. From one week to the next, its neither here nor there. Met up with great lads today, lads I no longer get to see as much as I'd like to but the game...the game was absolutely toss. Did either keeper make a save worthy of the name? It doesn't matter though. There are lots of teams worse than us and in the grand scheme of things, todays result didn't really matter.

You've lost interest in football, no big deal. If you've lost that interest you will find the championship dull and boring, find another sport. Personally I'm loving the top league. I have a good friend that supports Chesterfield so I go to watch them. I enjoy it. The game has a,refreshing honesty as do the crowds. I went to watch Bradford v vale last week. It was 0-0. Vale were absolutely pants but I enjoyed it. A bit obvious to tell you to fuck off up the Vale then

I'm only guessing that the people who say they would like be relegated never sat in a half empty stadium playing the likes of Plymouth with absolute dog shit football on show. Or the away games at Oxford Crewe Tranmere etc again to see wank football and us lose!! I don't even watch the championship anymore or any other lower league crap because that's what it is.. crap. I never want to go down again and see that wank football. As the saying goes you want see shit football fuck off up the vale

Dave big thumbs up for the integrity of your opening most mate. I'm going to respond to it with a handful of questions: 1. Do you think the Leicester supporters were bored last season? 2. If we did 'a Leicester' do you think you would be bored by it? 3. Were you bored by our League Cup run last season?

However going down would be awful for us. Cheer up you miserable old sod

Can't wait for Stevenage game and was devastated after defeats to both Liverpool and crystal palace last season.

Thing is Dave, if Leicester can do it, then we will always have a chance to do it but we would have no chance at all if we weren't in the league. And we have a far, far better chance of progressing in a cup competition if we have a Premership team available to compete in it, rather than a Championship one.

I'm amazed that Dave is getting so much grief.
He's hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. The Premier League is both the best thing and the worst thing about football.
It's great seeing genuinely world class players playing for us and against us in packed stadiums televised globally.
But....is playing for 8th or 9th or 10th really so exciting? And the greater the transfer fees we pay and wages we fork out, the greater the gulf between fan and footballer.
It's Catch 22 but I think Dave has nailed a very uncomfortable but genuine truth. The Premier League is the best and worst of things.

I remember, again with rosetinted eyes, there seemed to be a real affinity with the players & fans back in say 92/93
Now there is a gulf, the players probably think we are all peasants while they earn more in one week than most of us do in even 3 years. Just because they are our players, doesn't mean I still don't see them as money grabbing mercs, they don't have any real love for the club bar the wageslip and their image rights. They are assets to be used in a global brand at high stakes. I hate this side of it and wish it had never got to this but there is no putting the genie back now. How long is it before we see the first £1M a week player in the league?? Messi perhaps to Man City this season or next??

It really is, as foxy has described, the very best and very worst of things. I'm blaming the Olympics. I felt the same and posted similar seemingly in 2012. The older I get the further removed football gets from the game I grew up obsessed with and the less enjoyable it becomes. Meanwhile the Olympics is reminding me every day what sport is all about.

We've established ourselves I don't see any benefit in being the promoted team again Probably fair to say though we'll never ever recapture the feeling of beating Villa in that first home game 2008 or the goals at Wembley Even beating the likes of Man U, Chelsea etc has been achieved
Would it be fair to say (and this isn't criticism) that we are slightly stuck in a rut???
What we really need is that elusive trophy or another Wembley appearance, obv more likely to be cup

Maybe it's you that's changing Dave. Could you try not going as much, so it doesn't feel like so much of an obligation/habit? I think I'm about ten years older than you and I used to go to pretty much every game, even Brighton and Bournemouth away mid-week but I seriously cut back about 10 years ago because it did feel like it was becoming a bit of a grind. I still have a season ticket but pick and choose my away games now (no more than 4 or 5 a season) and every one is a real event for me, rather than just another match to go to. Dunno, just an idea.
