With the present set up from owner to manager to the players I think this is a completely pointless question. If we were to have more division between owner and manager then I would be concerned but if we ever go through a bad patch I really see Coates just buying his way out of trouble. We are heading in the other direction, there are going to be short term dips, like the amount of injuries we had last year and the injury to Butland this week but we have a chance to learn from these events and progress even more than we would have done if we hadn't had the injuries.

When you've been at the top you don't want to drop but life is full of up's and down's. Appreciate them when your there but don't feel too lost when your not.

Well football season has arrived and I don't think I've ever been less excited. On the flip side, I'm really looking forward to our trip to Stevenage and the most enjoyable day out last season was away at Doncaster. Would it really be so bad if we got relegated or am I being old, miserable and a bit daft? Yes, yes, yes and yes. Especially the being old bit. If it takes 23 years to get back you and me will be pushing up the daisies.

I wouldn't give a shit to be frank. You still support Stoke through thick and thin.
Is Coates gonna pay me mortgage and me Bill's ??
I might even be able to get more tickets and to see them more often.

However, the thought of return to that cold, dark horrible place known as the lower leagues fills me with dread.

Depends a bit on your time of life aswell I suppose - personally I've had enough of trailing round the lower leagues and the grind that those leagues represent. My appetite for football has diminished over the years. The only thing that has really kept it going is the better standards of football Stoke have been able to offer over the last 8 or 9 years and the better accessibility to watch ( which the PL provides). So relegation - yep fairly disasterous as far as I'm concerned.

Would it really be so bad if we got relegated or am I being old, miserable and a bit daft? If you are old enough then you will remember that last time we got relegated to tier 2 football it took us 23 years to get back to tier 1. Not sure what you are meaning, why on earth would you want to get relegated. I do reminisce about being able to wake up on the morning of the game and deciding whether to go to the game or not. Football has got it totally wrong and is getting worse as far as the experience goes. Shitty small cold seats with bad views of the game and sitting on a phone line for 20 mins to try and get a ticket for a game 8 months in the future.. You pay a fortune in petrol and for a ticket and refreshments only to watch over paid prima-donnas diving and cheating and end up invariably watching a game with 10 vs 11 or a the team in the lead clock wasting for the last 30 mins. The powers that be have forgot it is actually a spectator sport. Been there and done it. Momo's summed it up for me

Have a thought for the Stoke fans outside of the U.K., we would be reduced to video highlights and one or two matches a year.

I've watched stoke pretty much my whole life and arguably we have the best team I've ever seen in our colours. I'm not saying I want to go down or that we will but in all honesty mid table obscurity is a tad boring. Does it really matter that we were abysmal in the 1st half today? Doesn't it really matter that we were so much better in the second half? Todays result doesn't really matter. For me, its just getting mote and more dull each season. That isn't a criticism of Hughes, stoke city or any prediction of impending doom, its more a reflection of modern day top flight football. We won't win the league. We aren't good enough to break into the top 6 or 7, we will probably always fall just short in the cup competitions but we are nowhere near bad enough to go down. In truth, last season was superb. 9th and a penalty kick away from a major cup final yet for many it was still not good enough.

Also mid-table Premier League is the absolute best place to be. We see more wins then losses under Hughes, we beat some top teams and when we finally get some silverware we will appreciate it so much more then any of the stereotypical top-4 etc. Silverware for them is a job done, for us it's a dream come true.
When we appointed Hughes I said I'm more then happy to roll the dice and risk relegation because I'd sooner compete in that league then wallow in 17th at this one. But we compete in this league, and we see some fantastic stuff, unbelievable to me people would even entertain the thought of playing championship football over prem at this point.

Dave I'm not going to have a go at your original post but read over the last sentence you wrote on this quote and in a way your contradicting yourself. Your saying last season was touching superb but have lost your Stoke Mojo and pondered the thought of relegation. If everybody wasn't happy with last season then it's up to them but obviously your views were different.

If you've lost that interest you will find the championship dull and boring, find another sport. Personally I'm loving the top league.

I have a good friend that supports Chesterfield so I go to watch them. I enjoy it. The game has a,refreshing honesty as do the crowds. I went to watch Bradford v vale last week. It was 0-0. Vale were absolutely pants but I enjoyed it.
