The Classical music thread got me thinking about Bach: I loved the way the original Rollerball employed Toccata and Fugue in it's opening sequences, that was the first time I'd heard that stirring piece. Rollerball - love that film, kind of a precursor to things like Mad Max 2 & Escape From New York its a film every man should see! its very prescient, in that it depicts a world ruled by corporations - so visionary as we creep slowly towards the one world government
How did they fuck up the remake sooo bad??
Would still like another more faithful remake but cant imagine it happening
Nice clip here of the music & rollerball scenes
It also used the Albinoni adagio masterfully. Great version, this

Carpenter is a master with his no frills, synth approach
This was a fav from the end of the film as the clock is ticking down on Snake, the last minute really racks up the tension
Didn't think it was as good as New York but it wasn't as bad as many made out either. The Guy Pearce movie, Lockdown apparently was intended to be the third Snake Plissken movie.
Id still like a third with Kurt Russell in the Lee van Cleef role maybe??
Anyways they are remaking it, with Charlie Hunnam(Sons Of Anarchy) strongly linked. Tom Hardy would have been great but would be a little too much him playing both Max Rockatansky and Snake P.
See what you think of this, fan made video - bear in mind its made with very little money

The remake of Rollerball was an utter travesty,I watched no more than two minutes of it and had to turn over it was so cringe worthy. Another prescient Sci-fi film, with a great musical element( Edward G Robinson's euthanasia scene to the backdrop of Beethoven's 6th,) is Soylent Green. Wouldn't mind seeing that updated,if they could manage to avoid f*cking it up.

The Reckoning - never heard of it, looks interesting, wouldn't mind seeing it You can get it off Amazon but ONLY as Region 1 Found a snippet Get Carter - amazing film, equally great tune. I love the bass line. Still laugh every time though at the dummy Alf Roberts falling off the multi story. I had never heard of it until last year, and im a massive fan of late 60s/early 70s British cinema. I was banging on about Get Carter as I do at some length, and some guy I work with said, "You should watch the Reckoning, thats the film that inspired Get Carter, I used to play squash with the director and hes very bitter about the fact that his film was used as the template and Get Carter is a massive cult british gangster film, and his movie barely gets a mention" Well i can see what he means - Carter is based on the book Jacks Return, but the core themes, style and look of the film owe a lot to the Reckoning For some reason its an under rated gem, there was some problem with distribution at the time and its rarely seen on TV SEE IT IF YOU CAN I was lucky enough to catch it on youtube, really good quality, it was uploaded in 4 parts

Think the parts of The Reckoning have been taken down from YT
Some things survive on there, some don't
Here's a snippet from Tron Legacy; not a fan of Daft Punk or dance music generally but its a very good OST

Nicol Williamson has sadly passed away recently. The Reckoning as previously stated must have been an influence on Get Carter, especially the sequences filmed in Liverpool. It also possibly has the best use of the word 'Twat' in any film

Steve Stevens played the (imo) best soundtrack of all time, which is the Top Gun theme:
And as an honourable mention, Eddie Van Halen played the fantastic Twister Outro music, which is ironic really because it's probably the only part of the film worth watching (listening to):

I have to be honest I hated everything about Top Gun. Never got it, just thought it was more US propaganda, I think im just not seeing what others see in it.

Couple of great pieces from the martial arts world
a haunting piece used in Kill Bill
and John Barry's epic theme from Game Of Death (could easily have been a Bond theme)

Butch cassidy and the Sundance kid. If only for 'Raindrops'. Speaking of Westerns
Is this the definitive theme?

A heady mix. Werner Herzog, Kinski, Popul Vuh, Nosferatu.

A heady mix. Werner Herzog, Kinski, Popul Vuh, Nosferatu. You've reminded me of John William's score from the 1979 Dracula with Frank Langella & Larry Olivier
(not as well known as the 1992 movie but Id argue its the better film -(well worth catching; beautiful looking film and sinister too)

Any mentions for Once Upon A Time In The West yet?
Loved the conceit of giving the protagonists their own signature tune.Harmonica is a classic.
The overall score is magnificent.

John Williams is a genius. But his stand outs for me are Raiders of the Lost Ark and the original Star Wars trilogy. Queens Flash Gordon soundtrack is a fav of mine too. Beverley Hills Cop 1 and 2. Great sound tracks Same guy also did the Chevy Chase film Fletch, I like that one too.

I watched this last night; strange movie about a planet on a collision course with Earth
Brilliant use of Wagner at the end; terrifying & beautiful at the same time. Could the World end to a better piece of music??

Dead Man's Shoes is worth a shout for 'Vessel In Vain' alone, but there's some other crackers on there too.Adem's 'Statued' and Bonnie Prince Billy's 'A King At Night.'
Even if the film would have been better filmed in Brown Edge.
