Very famous one by Jerry Goldsmith; very sinister
To balance it out, I love this haunting piece from the end credits of Saving Private Ryan, bringing a lump to my throat just listening to this
And something just as elegant from LOTR
Just to have a breather from all the dark stuff I revel in!

Aaah yes Maurice Jarre, he scored the third Mad Max film
Big fan of the first, second and fourth Max movies; not as keen on the family friendly 3rd but that isn't Maurice Jarre's doing I hasten to say
Little montage of Brian May's (not the Queen guy) stunning score from Mad Max 2

American Graffiti must have one of the more extensive soundtracks if you're into rock'n'roll surely?
A mention for Spinal Tap too.Think although parodies, the attention to detail re the songs really leant the film credibility.

Some more dystopian scifi Famously in a mental time sig. Was synced using equipment that predated midi and he accidentally chopped the last three 16ths from the percussion track making it 13/16.

Here's my input for the waste of time it is in trying to educate you musical plebs. Only 2 links but you'd be a fool to ignore them:
As if any cunt'll bother to listen though eh? Trust me though, i win.

Part of the soundtrack of the film 'Evil Under the Sun' - Some fantastic Cole Porter music on here - the arrangements and production are outstanding. You blood'n'guts and monsters'n'mayhem types on 'ere won't like it at all!

Reasonably certain this appears on the Fire Walk film. After the first act if I recall right. If not, bollocks, there's lots from Angelo in Lynch's films that are also great.

Clockwork orange as already mentioned is fabulous on all counts, loved the Wendy Carlos arrangement of Beethoven's 9th to accompany the ultraviolet montage. Rossini's Thieving Magpie is employed to great affect too. +1. Staying with Kubrick, I'd also go with the soundtrack to '2001: a space odyssey'. Managed to see this at the cinema (as opposed to TV) for the first time last year, with a really good sound system too - the effect of Ligeti's pieces was both mesmerising and disturbing at the same time. And of course, the silence is just as important as the sound, like when Bowman blasts between the pod and the pod bay doors.
If I had to choose a favourite soundtrack of all time, probably the score to Eisenstein's 'Alexander Nevsky'. I was lucky enough to see this as the Royal Festival Hall donkeys years ago with the RPO and Chorus doing the score live at the screening. 'The Battle on the Ice' was superb, especially when the mailed hand of the Teutonic knight disappears beneath the scattered pieces of ice floe.
On a lighter note, and to carry on the 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' reference above, 'Grow the Roses of Success' is one of my all time favourite pick-me ups. Funnily enough, that and a bottle of cider were the first two things I went for after coming back from the Man City match the other week ....

Nothing beats this epic tune or the man himself. Legendary.

Nothing beats this epic tune or the man himself. Legendary. Marvellous soundtrack. But those low grumbling engine notes during the car chase are some of the sweetest music in the film.

Some cracking stuff above.
Standouts for me, scores that really enhance the atmosphere of the film. James Bernard's Hammer stuff The Wicker Man Paul Giovanni almost a musical. Oliver, BedKnobs, Jungle Book and all thems. Nyman and Greenaway, especially 'Drowning By Numbers'. Nyman and Damon Albarn's soundtrack to the horror film 'Ravenous'. Me favourite Cannibal Cowboy flick. Unsettling.
Choice morsel.
