Deerhunter. Incredible film and awesome soundtrack. Probably in my all time top 5 films ever. 3 incredible actors, Robert DeNiro, Christopher Walken & Meryl Streep, what a line up...

An amazing thread!!!!
If youre talking just a few songs put together then this is the business for me!
Closely followed by the soundtracks from Any Given Sunday, Mission Impossible 2, The Crow and Spawn
Now if we are talking composed music, well...

Some favs of mine
Love a lot of the music from Star Wars, particularly Revenge Of The Sith (which was also my fav of the series)
(my favourite movie character too)
Leaving Star Wars but more darkness from Mordor
More blood rousing music from the past
This is sort of cheating as its existing Classical but fuck it, its great!
A bit of Conan
And one more from ancient times

Something a little lighter
An okayish movie but a beautiful, inspiring piece of music
This is nice too
This is somewhat disturbing when seen in the context of the film I really recommend this film if you want a proper headfucking

You also find some surprisingly good music from the Italian cannibal movies and zombie movies of the late 70s/early 80s - often better than the movies
(how can something this beautiful come from a movie about people butchering other people??!!??)
Rick Wakeman dabbled as well
But of course when it comes to horror, there can only be one winner
(I prefer this second piece, works great in the film)

A clockwork orange is my favourite O lucky man . Weird film but a great soundtrack from Alan price A great shout, amazing music, amazing film; I used to envisage a future where the youth embraced classical music - it aint ever going to happen!
Please allow me..
Wendy /Walter Carlos is a genius
Loved his/her arrangement of the Dies Irae for this; very eerie, I was shitting myself before the titles had even finished. Its the only horror movie that has ever creeped me out at all.
Ive sort of realised that most of the music I like in some way uses or rips off the Dies Irae theme!

Seen The 13th Warrior mentioned
On the subject of the film itself, I put it up there with anything like Braveheart, LOTR, Troy, Game Of Thrones etc
Its a fucking masterpiece, one of the most underappreciated movies ever. Moody, atmospheric, well acted, violent, brilliant action, on the borderline between history & fantasy (the monsters in it are actually Neanderthals) its as good an epic/battle/vikimg film as you will ever see
the final battle is so emotional, so stirring; Id make the lads watch it before Saturday kick off.
Actually a law should be passed to make it mandatory viewing for all!!

Zimmerman's been mentioned in broad terms above, his work on Thin Red Line is sumptuous. The melanesian choral pieces are beautiful in particular.Spiritual soundtrack for a thought provoking meditation on life and death.

Clockwork orange as already mentioned is fabulous on all counts, loved the Wendy Carlos arrangement of Beethoven's 9th to accompany the ultraviolence montage.
Rossini's Thieving Magpie is employed to great affect too.

Not heard this in ages, used to hear it loads, think its used on a lot of trailers. Im enjoying it, cheers for the heads up
This was similar and again used in trailers a lot
I wasn't overly impressed with his Interstellar mind..
Zimmer is very generic but equally very good. He is to OST's what Avenged Sevenfold are to Metal; nothing original but he picks from the best - not exactly hurt John Williams either.
Easily my fav thread on here!!

Prime example of what music adds to a movie, especially action

Prime example of what music adds to a movie, especially action Jaws has got to be the ultimate exemplar hasn't it? imho Spielberg's 'floating turd' imbued with real malevolence by a menacing soundtrack.Genius work.

Jaws is great isn't it
Gets me, every time when Brody is firing at the tank in the shark's mouth, its the equivalent of the trench run in Star Wars A New Hope
You might find this vid interesting, it shows a little bit how much John W borrows from other composers
fair play he does it well, but there are times I find myself cringing - its as big a heist as Led Zeppelin LOL

Preisner's work on Three Colours Red is utterly superb and had me triggering some parental warning on the dvd I played certain sections so much!
Pasolini's Gospel according to St Matthew is another movie that utilises music to enhance scenes to magnificent effect, not everything's to my taste but the breadth is marvellous.
