With the difference being that you know very well that it doesn't work that way! The GD shows that when we win we did so by the odd goal whereas when we lost we got thumped . We conceded 4 goals in the last 3 matches and had another run of 3 consecutive 3-0 losses And if we were sitting there on 40 points with a goal difference of +15, would you really be using GD as the benchmark to how the manager is doing. You're just hunting for a stick to beat the manager with. Not at all I've always defended Hughes but when I feel that something is wrong I'll say it . So you mean to say that being on 47 points with eg a +5 GD and a -14 GD is the same thing in terms of assessing how well our team has performed this season ????!!!!! If that's the case then I'm sorry but you know the square root of sweet FA about football

If they ordered the table based on goal difference you'd have a valid point. They don't, so you don't. Maybe the negative goal difference is indicative of having a significantly depleted defence for quite a while now? The keys to success in any business are 1) communication and 2) training! And not having your best employees struck down with knee injuries and broken bones of course.

It is unusual for me to post on a current Stoke City game/issue but i feel the Sparky issue is getting out of hand.Mid-table Mick or top 10 Mark,i was there and watched it all.And the aftermath...Sparky doubters shut the fuck up.

The difference between success and failure is often how you deal with problems. Giving in and whining generally does not work too well.

I assume like us just wants the season to end so he can get rid of the underperformers.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Shaq go tbh. He'll still fetch a decent amount.

Problem for me is that he bought a lot of the underperformers in, will he have the balls to hold up his hands and sell them most likely at a loss ?

Let's look at the facts Our final position this year will be 10th with s goal difference of -10 upwards so it's no improvement on last season So in a season in which everyone was hoping to progress to the mythical next level that's not too good, is it ? Imo the GD statistic gives the true picture of how poor we were over-all We struggled to score and our defence was far from solid So whoever thinks that Hughes' future at the club might not be so secure certainly has good reason to think so It is still a better performance than any previous incumbent has achieved in the Premier League? Perhaps we will get lucky, I believe Martinez will be free next season?

(the three 4-x goal games coming straight after Butland is injured and the three 3-0 games coming during another injury run). Firstly, I am not saying the PL should make any changes, nor making any excuses for MH, I am simply making the point that in an OBJECTIVE analysis of the performance of our manager, special circumstances should be accounted for. If so, an argument could be made that the 6 games above, mostly against top class opposition as well, can be discounted as a "special cause variation" in statistical speak. If so, then a 23 goal drop in goal difference should be discounted. Let's for the sake of argument say halved. Then our -14 GD becomes a -3 or 4 GD. If we were in 10th with a GD of -3 or 4, do you think that warrants sacking the manager?

I hope you are right owde un, not sure if the current trend carries on for the rest of the season he will given the opportunity, the Coates family in general are hard nosed business people they will be rightly pissed off at the way their investment is panning out, we saw with Pulis that they will not spare the axe if they feel the time is right.

Correct I was, it could have been much worse I agree, if we carry on as we are it could be next season, the lack of quality in defence is an ongoing issue and has been all season it should have been addressed by now, will it be addressed this summer who knows, the manager must take charge or we will be in the same place next season.

Cant help but feel as fans we need to realise we all can't get what we want everytime. We've just played the three inform teams in the league, with 2/3 of a squad, injured players or second string players starting who we know aren't good enough. We can't improve every season, and I think this is just one of those. Success doesn't happen overnight. Sadly we haven't helped ourselves in lots of ways.
We haven't had a settled side all season, and even now its changing week in week out. How can the players learn how to get the most out of each other? Especially the new players? Bojan needs to play behind the striker now, preferably Joselu.
We seem to have developed blamers and whiners on the pitch too. Ive got sick of watch Wolly/Whelan having a go at others on the pitch when their form is nothing to shout about. I don't think this has helped.
This season has been stop start, from pre-season.
We've spent half the season trying to deal with the loss of Nzonzi (Our highest distance travelled player and one of the highest in the league) and Imbula is still getting used the language let alone the league. He's shown glimpses over of the player he can be but needs time.
Hughes has bought some great players to the club, and I'm still convinced he can put a cracking side together. But if he doesn't address the 4 areas (Centre back, Centre midfield, Backup wingers, Striker) and our repetitive patterns of play we can start next season the same as this one and theres no guarantees we can claw our way out of it. We have to play with more energy and intensity, just have to.
We have really struggled with injuries, worse than any other in recent memory.
The Liverpool game ended the worst possible way and seemed to take the wind out of our sails combined with a bad run in the league and losing sight of Europe.
Hughes deserves at the least next season to steady the ship, at least. I can't believe that we are questioning his position given how this season has played out, especially the last three games. We should be and are the example to other clubs that we don't make rash decisions. Certainly not questioning the manager after loses to the three inform teams and those questioning him need to grow up a bit quite frankly, its nonsense. I have to wonder what the agenda is still, as I can't help but feel we have some who are just waiting for a slip up. We don't get rid of the manager now or at the end of the season. Especially not where we are, even if we limped over the line at the end of the season. We can still better last seasons points tally (Even if a bit unlikely) but finishing top half is still a great accomplishment. Like we always do we should consolidate and go again.
Im even convinced Moha would of got on the pitch had the game not panned out as it had, Shenton as well would of featured more but theres still time. The fact these players were even on the bench says a lot and hopefully we will see Moseley, Verlinden, Moha, Ngoy, Telford at some point next year but definitely pre-season.
Its going to be a tough summer with losing a lot of players to the Euros, and the uncertainty of Arnie and maybe clubs sniffing round Butland (Say it quietly the injury may of done us a favour). But we need Carto to pull his finger out and hopefully we've been doing our homework and have some players lined up as well as shifting some of the "squad players" out. Its not all down the manager. Also hopefully pre-season this year will seem a little less chaotic and we can come back fresh and clear out the dead wood.

I submit that all these stake holders had expectations, based on last season's performance and subsequent investments, that the team would deliver a measureable improvement. In my opinion they fell short and the management should be held accountable. Coates seems like a reasonable person; however, I doubt he sees Stoke City FC as a charity or a very expensive hobby. I expect the 2016/17 season is put-up or shut-up for Sparky et al.

Stoke fans are getting worse every season, thinking we are a top 6 is amazing. Mark Hughes is a mid table manager, and we are a mid table team, very inconsistant, because thats the type of players we have.Even the noise levels have gone down, get out of your arses, stokies, the rubbish i here is pathetic, and spending another 30 million will not get us into the top 6 because the likes of liverpool, man u Southampton, west ham are light years ahead of us. A top 10 is success for Stoke, not under acheiving

If we have a new manager then there's every chance he'll want a new team and we're back to square 1 and we'll probably end up asking TP to save us. Stick with Hughes, it's a longterm project and one that I fully expect him to complete. Agree, 2 weeks ago we had 47 points, exactly the same as last season, all of a sudden the PLAYERS, have stopped playing, injuries included, and Mark Hughes is a shit manager and sack him, beggars belief. Some stoke fans are so fickle and havent got a clue about football, to make them pathetic statements.

This is something I first picked up on in the first leg of the Liverpool cup game....and was flamed for it. We then went back to their place and did try, so I thought it was just a bad day at the office, but I now think there's more to it than that. Hughes however is absolutely the man to sort it out. One positive....at least our recent form has ended talk of him going to Man U or some such shitehole.

I suppose I'd he'd constantly played down expectations he'd have been fine . Like I said. 10th, 6 point gap to 11th spot so a very realistic chance of three successive top 10 finishes. I'd say that was protecting Coates investment.
