Having just seen the goal on Sky at 5am, the first thing to sort this post season will be the defence. Utter shocker.
A settled & set defence which we have not had all season would/will be the main crux. A fit Ryan is a must but we must not build around him now as I fear these back issues will plague him sadly for the rest of his career. Wolly is as frustrating a player to fans as I think he is to his team mates. Yes he has the talent but maybe (in my opinion) Wolly thinks he is actually better than is, or should be at a bigger club? The Bundesliga might well be a lure for him at the end of the season. The right & left back just needs consistency which we have not had, and start making the strides towards bring in & bedding in new all round. Would have loved to see us buy Tripper from Burnley last year, but we missed the boat big time in my eyes.
Im usually the last to sound all gung ho & the earlier comment about "sell em all" was tongue firmly in cheek at the time, but if we don't get rid of a lot of dead wood soon then it cannot be an excuse for us next season. Mark Hughes, this post season & pre season might well be the biggest in your managerial career & the biggest in Stoke City history if we are to take a next step forward.

Hold up, I thought you couldn't afford to go to matches? Or are you just lazy? Bone idle now done my bit, plus I have a nasty cold to boot, thought I would take the sensible option and use my Sky subscription for once , thinking of cancelling in the morning I am no lover of Horror shows lol

Putting all the pathetic wrist slashing feint hearted fans to one side in this thread who think they are Stoke fans I would like to read some sensible comments on the poor performance. Well first of all Tottenham showed quite clearly why they are a possible top of the league team. They have some outstanding individual talent with enormous energy playing with the confidence of an early goal that should have been made more difficult. From that moment Stoke battled hard in the first half but unlike Spurs too many of Stoke's talented offensive players went missing. Arnautovic and Shaqiri were so tame as was Imbula and this also pretty much negated the game of Bojan who was ineffective.Well done to Affelay who never gave up. Wollshied was clearly the better of our defenders but Spurs opened us up on too many occasions. Spurs could have led by three at half time. Stoke started better in the second half but they had to take far too many chances opening the play up. Shawcross is not clearly an England quality player on his performance tonight. He was continually caught ball watching and on too many occasions there was a gap right through the middle of our defence. When the second goal came Stoke fell apart. We looked very frail and our confidence and team work just disappeared. It is quite obvious to conclude that we are not as good as we think we are BUT to all you weak minded Stoke fans. We have acquired 47 points already this year with more games to play. We have beaten Chelsea, Man City ,Man United, and Liverpool away in a Cup Semi Final. We do have quality in the team but as yet we have no consistency. It really hurts when we lose like we did tonight but well done Spurs. Roll on next season where I have every confidence that we have tremendous potential to continue our progress but improvement in the defence is essential. Remember! You could be a Villa supporter! Having thought about it overnight, I share your view. What I hate most when we win is for all the pundits to say how poor the other team were. OK we didn't play well but most of that was down to the pressing play by Spurs. I thought their performance was the best I have seen against us this season Even they missed two sitters, thankfully, otherwise the result would have been worse. We have some good players and we are improving season on season. We do not yet have the strength in depth to cope with injuries and I feel we are still work in progress. We may still have some way to go to gain consistency but I strongly believe we have the owners who also want it and in Hughes a management team who can achieve it. Thanks to Pulis who got us promoted, consolidated and now Hughes who has moved us on, we are putting 30 odd years in the doldrums behind us. There are a lot of clubs and fans, who have briefly tasted premier league football or have clubs in free fall, who envy what we have got. Let's celebrate our success, grumble a bit when things go wrong, but be grateful for what we have.

It is quite simply that Spurs are the best team in the league currently and much too good for an unbalanced Stoke City. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say that on the day we were well beaten by a superior outfit.

Of course I disagree with you - I don´t consider Tottenham to be one of the top 4, they have never won the PL - I really have an issue with a club winning the PL that went out of business owing a lot of people a lot of money and were able to wipe the slate clean at their expense and then come back without having to pay their dues. But hey, that´s just my opinion, I accept that. Sure, and you'd stop supporting Stoke if the same happened to us as Leicester would you? Maybe you could concentrate on your big team then? But just to balance your one eyed view you should know that your beloved Tottenham were allowed to beach rules about the way they paid players without punishment a few years ago now, whilst little Swindon Town got relegated two divisions for the same offence. BM BM, you are really wound up aren´t you ?! I do not need telling who I can or cannot support. I have been supporting Stoke for 40+ years and if we went out of business I would still always support us. I do not "support" Tottenham or any other big club, I do not have a second team. I could understand if others had a problem with us going out of business and coming back to win the league having caused people to face a hard time along the way due to our not being able to pay our bills. Like I say, just my opinion, you should pipe down and certainly not tell me who I should or should not support and who I can or cannot concentrate on.

Yes I WAS extremely wound up last night by that inept and embarrassing performance. Apart from that though I have been in despair for a long time about how everything in football is being increasingly arranged for the elite clubs benefit and how clubs of our size are being reduced to bit part players facilitating the global growth of the elite in exchange for feeding off the crumbs they throw our way and we should therefore be grateful that we too can say the same about the clubs in the lower leagues who are destined to remain our inferiors and outside of the franchise. Leicester winning the league challenges and puts two fingers up to that whereas Spurs winning it doesn't and so the last thing I wanted to read last night was Stoke fans praising Tottenham on two counts! Sorry mate, hope no offence caused. BM

BM No probems BM, our paths have crossed before although I acknowledge I am a major contributor (other than avid reader) of the MB - and I have always found you open and receptive so I thought it was a little out of character. No offence taken.
