CRITICSM OF HIM FIRST HALF TODAY ON THE MATCHDAY THREAD, WAS NOTHING SHORT OF DISGRACEFUL AND ULTIMATELY, EMBARRASING I haven't read it but I can imagine what it was like. Just ignore them Tony because they will never change, they can't even see what they're doing wrong so they will never learn.

This is the first time we have played to his strengths give him a run of games up front and I'm sure we won't be disappointed and he seems to be helping Imbula settle in and they're playing well together faith will be rewarded

If anything I think today proved why we need better. His pace and physicality make him a handful yes, but he misses too many good chances and his touch is poor. Sign a top quality striker in the summer and watch how much difference it will make. Yes, we will - virtually no difference. We will not get a better quality striker than an in-form Diouf unless we spend 20 million, and even then it would be no guarantee. Diouf *is* our top-quality striker.

4/4 headed goals in the league too. So much for needing aerial threats over him.

His first half performance was as good as I've seen him in a Stoke shirt. Unfortunately, he should have put us 2-0 up.
Thought he was anonymous second half but in the right place at the right time to earn us a fully deserved point.
Like you say, it's vintage Mame!

Criticism of him is justified - he missed two proper sitters first half I would expect a Sunday league striker or even one of my u14s to finish
Was there at the right moment to head home into an empty net, but if we are to progress we need a more lethal striker up top - now we are on the verge of that 'next level' you need a next level striker.
I always think Madrid fall short because Benzema is shite! Imagine if they had Aguero!

I look at it this way nobody in our squad would have been where Diouf was to miss the first two. And his goal shows his natural knack of being in the right place at the right time he is so underrated on here.

I'm still sceptical of whether he's our best option and I was going mad when he missed his two chances in the first half but I'm delighted it was him to get the goal. You could see his confidence go down after each mistake/miss so hopefully that picks him up and gets him on his way again. I don't think, technically, he's our best option but his pace is always a threat. I don't think his confidence was all that shot, it seemed like he gave himself a kick up the arse which is what a proper professional does. The thing about Diouf is that not many of our other options would have made the runs that he did to get on the end of the chances he was on, so it's really hard to say "if it was Joselu he would have scored". Don't think either of his chances in the first half were gimmes by any stretch.. But he should have hit the target with at least one. This is the Diouf conundrum. He does typically need 3-4 chances to score one... Granted there's an argument to say that he creates those chances.. But it's frustrating to watch.. Good composure to take his goal... But I'd still like to see Joselu given a run..

You can only miss sitters if you get there. How many sitters have we missed recently, not many? if you keep getting in there you will eventually score. He did, job done.
I would rather a striker miss sitters than a striker who gets no chances.

With Diouf on top in away games we seem to create a lot more chances! Even though he misses some clear cut chances I'd stick with him up top because he will always trouble defenders with his pace. I also think he will score more than any of our other opportunities up front.

And his goal shows his natural knack of being in the right place at the right time he is so underrated on here. Malcolm Macdonald, who was no slouch in the goalscoring business, had a motto which was the title of his autobiography - Never Be Afraid To Miss - something the very good strikers believe in - you won't score from every attempt but the more attempts you make, obviously, the more you might score so don't be discouraged by any misses.

Give me a striker that gets in to good position and misses over a striker that goes missing any day of the week, goals come with chances, being in the right place at the right time is instinctive, Mame may miss a fair few shots but he always makes chances

In away games his strength & pace on the break is the best of our strikers but that doesn't work at home when most sides sit deep.

The only reason I can think of why he missed those two chances, must be being rusty. He must be picked ahead of Walters though.

He was dire in the 1st half, thought he cost us 3 points but then won 1 back. Didn't really see him much in the 2nd half until Bojan came on what a difference skill makes. He then heads into an open goal and everyone says he's magic!!!! We are just short of a top class striker, even the commentator said the same. I feel for Diouf to play he must be awesome in training and you could see the 'love' Dave Bowen has for him.

We all know his strengths but rarely play to them. He is never a winger in a million years and should never be played there again.

No one can deny that MBD missed two easy chances in that opening period. The first one is bread and butter, the second he has to hit the target. Not making the goalkeeper work with either was criminal.
But Diouf has this knack of being in the right place at the right time. Most of his goals last year came from close range and it earned us a point today.
The problem with MBD is that if he gets 3 clear cut chances he will only score once. We definately need to find a reliable goal scorer in the summer.

Well done Diouf prove the clowns on here wrong again. Sounded like he should have had a hat trick, if true (I only listened so nowhere near the same obvs) then it shows why we need better, he won't score enough in a season.

I'm sure he will disappointed but he rescued a point and I cant think of ANY of our strikers who would have even been in the position to miss the first two. First one was a bit of a stretch for him so I can forgive it, the second he should have scored but 1 from 3 is better than anyone else on the pitch today and without him we would have lost.

Played very well despite the misses (as others have said you have to get there in the first place), shame he didn't celebrate properly with the rest of the lads after we got a hard-fought late equaliser against that despicable team though...maybe he felt he didn't deserve it after his misses? I get the feeling he is too hard on himself.
