It's embarrassing how the 'conditions' effect so many games. Get the corners filled in this summer Coates!

Elliot should have saved it.
It was a yard or two to his right.
Luckily he's fat and shit.

Two moments of magic from Shaqiri and Butland saved us from embarrassment. Performance was awful tonight. Again. Embarrassment? Come on, that's just silly. Poor game in absolutely shocking conditions but we found the quality to win. Oh, and 7th in the table!!! Bang on Time and time again in the early days of the Prem would we hold our own in games only to lose to a moment of magic from a quality player that cost lots of money. We know have those kind of players that determine the outcome of games. 3 wins in a row.

Didn't realise how utterly horrendous the conditions were until walking home.
We were lucky any kind of football broke out. Thought we were decent in the first half, with Afellay absolutely outstanding.
I've never seen anyone as cold, broken and thoroughly miserable as Imbula at the start of the second half.
Tonight's just one where you pocket the three points and move on.

I know it's an old topic but we have to seriously start lobbying the club about filling in all corners.
If not with seats with wind breaks.
We aren't the paupers of the league anymore and we don't have to use the conditions to unsettle sides.
Our players can do that and our football can do that but not when games are being, frankly, totally ruined by the conditions.
Sort it out Stoke because it's getting farcical.

Real lack of creativity and movement again. Especially from Walters who hid.
Really dull but better than Villa.

What concerns me is that we are still playing Walters as first choice striker, yes I get that he works hard however it is time we moved on, we have Diouf, Crouch and Joselu£(5.5M) yet we still persist with Walters what is going on.

It's hard to break down 11 behind the ball
Not pretty but twice in 4 days. Alls well

I'm going to blame the conditions. Ruined the game once again. Nothing to do with the conditions, everything to do with being too slow and lacking ideas.

It's what good players do isn't it? Pop up with a moment of magic when you need it.

At times, especially in the first half, Newcastle were set up like Andorra would against England - 11 men behind the ball, all in the space of about third of the pitch whenever we had possession, inviting us to try to play through 3 rows of defenders without running out of space.
When they opened it up a bit more, and the conditions were making everybody look shit, I thought we were the ones that looked like we were in a relegation battle - not because we were worse, because we were putting more effort into those 50/50's.
Great ugly win.

Enjoying watching the other games on motd. Teams able to play football unlike the Brit. Getting a joke now. Shakiri aimed at the tunnel and the ball flew in the net.

9 points against 3 sides battling against relegation. In days gone by you could always rely on Stoke to kick start their revivals... but not now it seems. I like Frogger Theft Auto's decription of the game: Great ugly win. Because of the awful conditions, I didn't go tonight, but my lad and grandson went and they said what another poster has said earlier on this thread: they didn't realise how bad the conditions were until they got outside after the game. And as Merkin says earlier up this page, on nights like these you need that one quality player who can turn a draw into a win, and we have those now. Shaqiri has turned on the magic this last two games and his crosses for Arnie and tonight his goal have got us 6 points. Remember Coutino doing it to us earlier in the season? It's what great players can do. Hughes is slowly buying players who can do these things and it's paying dividends. So, ugly but vital wins have put us in 7th place. Add in a super-save from Butland and that's what winning is all about. So no complaints from me.
OS.

Dont know what some of the moaning fuckers on here want, first half we were outstanding, kept the ball well, passed it around with confidence, got forward well and in to threatening areas, had a few shots and although we failed rto break them down we went in at the break without conceding. Second half it looked like they had an half time bollocking and were reminded that they are playing for their Prem survival, they came out disrupted our passing game, closed us down and made a fight of it, our summer superstar signing gained confidence and rounded a cracking first half display with a goal, we won, we moved up the table to 7th (yes the 7th highest placed club in England), we did not concede any goals, Cam & Muni played well after coming back from injury, we don't have any more major injury concerns other than Bards, we competed in difficult conditions and won our third on the bounce......... AND PEOPLE STILL FUCKING MOAN!!

Winning when we don't play well. A vital component of any good football team. Ferguson made a career out of it

Let's not beat about the bush here the last 2 performances have been poor but we've picked up 6 points which is what matters for me.We've all said we need to start winning games when we're not playing well and at long last we've done it.There have been a few games were we've deserved more ie Palace so I'll gladly take the points whilst not being fooled by our last 2 games

Behave what? What part of what I and many have said is wrong? Everything Tonight was as much about a side devoid of ideas as much as anything. The strike was excellent, if you're going to demean it then I'd throw that at the goalkeeper.

It would have been another frustrating draw, yes we won but we weren't totally convincing again tonight. Shaqiri was a class apart today, a bit quieter second half but he looked the ONLY THREAT going forward and obviously the worldy from Jack at the end. Onwards and upwards! When was this string of frustrating draws you allude to? I'm genuinely interested in when it was.

Two players were winding me up a treat tonight.
Shaqiri and his total refusal to run at the full back and butland, who is supposed to be intelligent, rolling the ball up towards the half way line and kicking it out for a goal kick so Elliot could waste even more time. Fuck me, he'd spent 45 minutes watching his opposite number throwing the ball from one end of the pitch to the other.
Both players ended up winning us the game so I'll forgive them. Had we drawn or worse still lost, I'm pretty sure I would have wanted to throttle the pair of them! :-)

The reason why Stoke are challenging for a European place right now & Newcastle are in a relegation dogfight is because we have signed players like Shaqiri & Arnautovic, players who are willing to take the initiative & try to win the game for their team, whereas they've signed players like Mitrovic, who spent 80 odd minutes scratching his arse.
