There's plenty of clueless nasty fuckers around....that's Stoke innit. Whole Irish team were brilliant tonight. Can't remember England showing such grit for a long long time.

Walters showed for Ireland last night just why he's so popular at Stoke. He's not just hard work & grit, he's a goalscorer too. I'd be interested to hear just how many ROI fans think he's shit and a headless chicken ? UTMP

And to think that was only 3 months ago! Imagine no SJW in our squad now? If Jedinak has been fit SJW would probably have been off One of the best posts on this board at that time was some joker who said that SJW should be made to rot in the reserves!

I don't talk football with anyone who doesn't recognise how good/important Walters is. After all what's the point they clearly know nothing about football.
Anyone who's played the game knows you need players like him in a team, every manager he has continually picks him, he's our top prem goalscorer, he gives 100% every week. Last season he had most goals and assists didn't he? What more do they want?

He's not worth a place in the starting XI. Good squad player though.

Great is Super John. I'd still put him on the bench against Southampton and play Diouf up top though......

Yes, Jon has been absolutely immense for every single game he's played for Stoke city. It's almost like some players are untouchable. So long as you don't change your username to SuperJon he'll be ok. In real life are you nicknamed Jonah?

Diouf is the better striker and puts as much work in. Couldn't agree more, Walters has done better than I expected but at the end of the day he averages a goal every 5 games as a striker and he takes penalties. If we are serious about breaking into the top 8 and we are as seems for the foreseeable future going to play 1 up front, we won't do that with him as the lone striker.

I saw this on the BBC site from Delaney talking about Ireland "In that sense, probably, we're the Stoke City of international football but with the awkwardness that brings."

Although they play in different positions, Walters reminds me a lot of John Mahoney from the team of the 70s. Neither are what the purists would call a "classy" player but both got the maximum out of the talent they had and both would run all day like a Duracell Bunny! Well done tonight Jon - I'm delighted you'll get to perform in a major tournament. Spot on, Lakey, about Mahoney. A genuine honest player who knew his limitations but always pushed himself to his limits.A lad who never sought the highlights and played every game for the team, giving 100% game after game, underrated, or perhaps overlooked by many, but the sought of player every team needs-as per SJW- and a nice personality to go with it.

Cheers, as you say, Mahoney was a nice lad. When he first signed for Stoke from Crewe I was working in Crewe and living in Nantwich and John often popped into the same pub as me for a drink - can't remember which pub - sorry -it WAS a long time ago. He and I were the same age (within a few months) and we often had a chat. I was in there the night a telephone call came though (from his family, I suppose) and the landlord told him he had been picked to play for Wales for the first time. He was chuffed to bits and rightly so.

I certainly don't think Walters is shit, as some are saying, but Diouf is the better option as a lone striker and should be starting on Saturday if fit.
Walters is a phenomenal assist for our football club, as he has proved time and again, and I'm glad he's going to be around for a while. Would hate to see him lining up against us for any other team.

You can work out why he's so important by imagining how other teams will feel when they see he's playing. He has that 'oh fuck not him again' factor.

He is a good player who well never let you down and always give a 100 % . Even better he has turned winding up and harassing defenders into an art form which is fun to watch.
The $64, 000 question is still Diouf or Walters ??
My own preference is Diouf .. he's brave as a lion and like Walters a nightmare to play against, plus he is fast .
Quick players like Diouf and Shaq are always likely to tweak a hamstring or pick up a knock, so SJW will get games here and there anyway.
SJW might get ten goals a season but Diouf can potentially get you 15 if he is playing every week and he deserves his chance .
